Over a decade, July 2013 was the last game. The rules of college sports changed (players are paid now) which allowed the game to be made. A new college hoops game from 2K is rumored to be released in 2025.
An additional note on Tango Gameworks: before they made Hi-Fi Rush, they were also known for making Ghostwire: Tokyo, The Evil Within 1+2, and a mobile game called Hero Dice. Absolutely a studio that can just make things across a wide variety of genres and I'm glad they're back from the dead.
I remember the most frustrating thing about the Tango stuff was like a week later one of the Microsoft execs was doing an interview where he said they needed more smaller, unique games that are hits (or something along those lines) and the immediate response was to remind him that they had just laid off an entire studio that had given them exactly that.
The closure of Tango was exceptionally frustrating because it really just came down to two things; they'd just released a game and didn't have any projects near completion so there wouldn't be a big loss to cut them, and their big name founder, Shinji Mikami (lead on Resident Evil 4) had recently left. The frustrating part was Miakmi wasn't lead on their most recent releases. He took more of an advisory role for Ghostwire and Hi-Fi rush to help build up new leadership in the studio so it could continue to thrive without him. It was a very thoughtful way of planning your exit, like the absolute correct thing to do and stands in very sharp contrast to say Todd Howard, whose studio can't handle more than one project at a time because Todd refuses to let anyone else lead and is also planning to retire after his next game (which he will also lead.)
rad that Tsukihime made the top 10 on metacritic. to expand on what Beej said: yes, it's from Type Moon, the people who make the Fate franchise, but Tsukihime pre-dates Fate. the original Tsukihime was a visual novel with multiple routes released a good while before Fate/Stay Night. Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon is an updated remake that covers only the first two routes, but improves and expands them to pretty much the size of the full original game iirc, and they're still planning at least one more game to cover the rest of the remake (it may even be two games depending on how much they improve/add, because stuff's changed like when it's set or some characters being around who weren't before)
For anyone that wants to know, the most recent Phil Spencer t-shirt wearing shenanigans was when he was wearing a Hexen t-shirt during the Xbox Games Showcase in June of 2023. “That wasn’t me trying to pre-announce it,” Spencer told Polygon in an interview following the stream. “But it was me recognizing the importance of some of the games in our portfolio.”
Man i'm a big fan of Trivia, and im so happy that this came back this year. Quiz Master Kathleen is always a delight to see on the screen and i would love to see more of her on a variety of topics, maybe a WOD Trivia Challenge for Jacob so we both get trivia delight and watching Jacob just Geek out in joy
The Call of Duty lawsuit definitely felt like they were trying to "McDonald's Coffee" their way out of accountability by painting the parents as unreasonable boomers attempting to smother all fun and joy by ruining Gaming. And not... you know... a company making million dollar deals to sell guns to children.
I know Metacritic scores honestly don’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still super awesome to see so many indies in the top 10 list.
CFB 25 is the first college football game in aaaaaaaages. It also helps that it's like. Good? In a way almost no other EA Sports games are these days. Probably cause it had a normal production timeline and wasn't on a strict yearly deadline.
sometimes there will be a weird parasocial moment where a content creator I like mentions watching other content creators I like This was like the opposite of that because holy shit did the content creators I like never shut up about Dragon's Dogma
The main reason the college football game outsold Madden was it was the first time since like 2014 they were able to make it, and people have been waiting A LOOOOONG time to play it again
July 2013; other than baseball, sports games have the number after the year it releases b/c baseball is the only major sport that finishes its entire season within the same calendar year.
@ I’d stopped playing the title by then, so I was more going off the “first time in a decade” narrative, and wasn’t sure what year the title was. I used to be a big sports game fan, but got tired of buying the same game year after year
The excuse for Asmodee being saddled with the debt I believe went something along the lines of "banks love Asmodee!" implying the board game company would have a easier time refinancing or otherwise dealing with the loan...
Oh boy a quiz of gaming news from 2024, I wonder how many questions will be about Concord and it only lasting 2 weeks before being shut down? ... oh. None.
@@diestormlie I could see another round of Odd One Out with it, XDefiant, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and that idol mobile game that announced EoS in the same post they announced a localization.
I love Asmodee's stuff. Very sad their parent company saddled them with Big Debt problems, and killed the X-wing and Star Wars Armada tabletop games (partially, sounded like they were struggling to make a profit off of them due to the models being preassembled/painted which adds a lot of cost to manufacturing)
"You'ld think (Bethesda) would want a studio that broadens it's portfolio" Ah, but you see Beej, Bethesda thinks that they are "The Fallout/ElderScrolls devs" and "No one makes Western RPGs better than us" despite the fact their engine's archaic and they have pulled a Nintendo to make their own worst enemy in Obsidian. So no, I don't really expect Bethesda to make logical decisions as a company. ...(sighs) okay, jokes and spite aside, there is logic in what they did, it's just awful they didn't offer the people WORKING in that company alternatives. They cut Tango because they were early dev, and were soaking up funds they wouldn't see results for upwards of four years, and for SOME reason this year they felt the NEED to downsize.
RE: the college football game. I always equate it like this. College sports is very much the US equivalent to Euro Football in how effectively regional it is. The way theres 7 premier league teams in london, that closeness breeds rivalry obv, its similar with college football. Plus obviously, people feel more pride about their school, it represents a bigger piece of them(unless they happen to live in a big sports city) due to the connection to their education and thus their potential job and life direction. Also helps that it was the first NCAA football game since like 2014 AND by all accounts it was a way better representation of the game of football than Madden.
Tsukihime remake did not really come out this year. It just got a official english release after 3 years of being out. We are still waiting on the dark side of the moon route remakes.
If you're coming back to this at the end of 2025 I think the guys should get 1 more serious guess and one purely jokey guess and pretend that each of those guesses are coming from different people. This way you have "4 contestants" on.
Hifi was well reviewed and liked but nothing Tango made really did financially well and the brand elevation is worth more to krafton than to microsoft. It's a very spreadsheet cut which sucks and capitalism sucks but it does make sense under it
I'm surprised Slay the Princess sold so well, it was a major disappointment for me. I stopped playing after the 3rd run; it just felt like The Stanley Parable without the humor.
The Missing Words Round was incredible. The only thing more impressive than Kathleen's writing was how Beej instantly absorbed the format and crushed it.
College Football '25 sold so well because the entire franchise hasn't had a game in nearly a decade.
Over a decade, July 2013 was the last game.
The rules of college sports changed (players are paid now) which allowed the game to be made. A new college hoops game from 2K is rumored to be released in 2025.
Yet I will never get another blitz the league or Backbreaker.
Graham just lobbing that "It's almost Sonic's 35th Anniversary" like a fucking grenade

"Have I Got Points To Check" implies the existence of "Have I Got Some More Points To Check", and I am here for it!
Or do I have to wait until Sunday?
Have I got some Points to Chill
I'm still bummed they cancelled "Mock the Point"
RUclips is a lot better for reairing than Dave, I have to admit.
Remember when Matt Booty said "Microsoft needs more games like Hi Fi Rush" like three days after they closed the studio? Good times...
“Good” “times”

Batch Frying vs. Capcom, coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2026.
Batch Frying vs. the Volcano, in cinemas March 9.

I was the Dragon's Dogma guy in my friend circle. Loved the first one, and am having a blast with the second!
Oh yeah, in the right circles you'll get groups of people yelling stuff like WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS ARISEN. It's just not every circle.
Graham can't remember _anything_ from this year? Surely G is aware it's Sonic's 30th Anniversary?!
No, Graham wouldn't because he wouldn't have to - BEEJ remembers it for everyone!
@@empath69 By force, if he has to.
It’s almost Sonic’s 35th anniversary!
but isn't it always Sonic's 30th aniversary?

Almost time to dust off the Sonic's 30th Anniversary logos and slap a 5 on top of it.
I know Metacritic scores honestly don’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still super awesome to see so many indies in the top 10 list.

Graham, you win, you knew slightly more GameFAQs.
Oh boy a quiz of gaming news from 2024, I wonder how many questions will be about Concord and it only lasting 2 weeks before being shut down?
... oh. None.
Why would there be a question on it? It's common knowledge!
@@diestormlie I could see another round of Odd One Out with it, XDefiant, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and that idol mobile game that announced EoS in the same post they announced a localization.
Goddamn the "fill in the blanks" gave me just the tiniest fix of Feed Dump I didn't realize I was missing

Because it came up, I would love to see Slay The Princess on Let's NOPE! or Talking Sim
ooo Talking Sim breaking down the game would be fantastic - maybe with Abey guest starring to talk about the game
Also would be great to watch as a "Now Kiss!" episode or crossover.
I've tried Fatch Brying at home and it just hasn't been working out.
Maybe I should join the EuroPatat as well 😂
It news! In quizzes form
Kathleen's escaping to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by capitalism!
Best D&D Sighting in the background! Woo~!
On a, in theory positive note, Embracer Group is contributing 423 Million towards the 1bn debt that Asmodee has thanks to those shenanigans.

Love this. I couldn't remember any of it! LOL
I remembered the Embracer Group story because they decided to saddle the board game side with all the debt.
if UK potatoes go abroad, are they ex=potats?
U.K.'s GB Potatoes Organisation has joined the fight against the Automatons
Dragons Dogma was a cult classic from what I understand.
I'm just starting the video and I really hope Aunt Euphamenia shows up 😂
Tsukihime remake did not really come out this year. It just got a official english release after 3 years of being out. We are still waiting on the dark side of the moon route remakes.
Ahhh yes, point check
Europatat is the real winner
Delightful!
31:36 ... so both panelists were right!
13:20 number must go up
Oh no, they killed the desk. RIP Desky McDeskface
Think it's only for the Quiz
Oh wow, I've never been here *this* early.
I was one of the Dragon's Dogma 2 wanters! The original was so flawed but so unique, very special game to me.
If you're coming back to this at the end of 2025 I think the guys should get 1 more serious guess and one purely jokey guess and pretend that each of those guesses are coming from different people. This way you have "4 contestants" on.
This was fun!
Is this a reference to the US version of HIGNFY or do you for some reason get the UK version in Canada?
How much British tv do you guys watch?
K thinks game awards can’t be bought. That’s adorable.
Im here for graham's Tshirt and suddenly need to know where i can get it
i was thinking about balatro for best seller, but thats cause im currently playing it, and ive bought it twice
Hifi was well reviewed and liked but nothing Tango made really did financially well and the brand elevation is worth more to krafton than to microsoft. It's a very spreadsheet cut which sucks and capitalism sucks but it does make sense under it
Regarding Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen: I loved that game. It's *terrible*.
Graham is in the wrong spheres, I have heard people (and a large selection of journalists) praise Dragons Dogma for years
If it didn't have invasive DRM I might be positive towards Dragons Dogma.
CAPITALISM YAY
Just fuck it all I guess because damn our capitalism sucks
I'm surprised Slay the Princess sold so well, it was a major disappointment for me. I stopped playing after the 3rd run; it just felt like The Stanley Parable without the humor.
College football is also more popular than pro football most of the time
The Missing Words Round was incredible. The only thing more impressive than Kathleen's writing was how Beej instantly absorbed the format and crushed it.
What? Check point? I hardly know points
First?
