All rise for Australias unofficial national anthem!
This song was inspired by a protest march for nuclear disarmament the year 1985. The message being 'if you want change go out and make it yourself'.
Tommy did a nice cover that was pretty true to the original!

For me its not so much a competition ( suspect Tommy didn't aim for that either 😀) it,s more a case of paying respect to an important artist and song. Adding to the music and being a part of the universe it exists in .... and in the process he introduces or reintroduces it to people that didnt listen to it before (i,m one .. i knew this song since childhood but did not the artist ..have listened to Farnham a lot the last 24 h just because of Tommys version) ..so it is all good!!!!

Definitely a good cover sung by a talented singer and accompanied by an equally talented guitarist. Well done. Someone has already made mention of the passion that John Farnham embeds in every one of his performances, and that there was little change to the melody of the song in this version. I felt that this was just slightly up tempo, but fortunately Tommy's voice was up to the challenge to deliver it in the way in which it should be delivered. Good job, mate.

Only a handful of people or bands have ever actually covered this song successfully. Most fall flat in various bad ways.

Maby now you understand John farnhams greatness. It takes a heavy metal singer to even come close to the original recording . Lets not forget, this is not live. A lot of sound enginering going on to make it sound like this. Back in the days they didnt have that. Only pure and raw talent.

Very good cover he has an amazing voice played it true to the original but could have tweaked it a bit more to make it his own. Now if you want to see an unique and mesmerising performance check out Kasey Chambers an Australian Country singer covering the great Eminem's Lose Yourself on a Banjo would you believe.

As usual, Tommy upgraded this song. I always loved the original, but it was just a bit too slow for my taste, now it's perfect. If you play the video until the very end, you will see Tommy made a little promo for his friend and Majestica bandmate, Chris David, who just released a debut EP with his new band Wizdoom (he is still in Majestica too). They also released a video for the song Way Of The Lost, it's on Chris David's channel, and it's a truly beautiful song. Can you check it out?

most of songs that John Farnham has covered have done quite well , even some out selling the original within Australia .
      Like
One 1969 original by Harry Nilsson then covered by 3 Dog Night only a few moths before a young Johnny Farnham recorded it .
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head in 1970 totally out sold BJ Thomas original John version was also a number 1 hit , his last number 1 for 19 years until You’re The Voice in 1986 .
When Something Is Wrong With My Baby ( with Jimmy Barnes ) recorded for Jimmy’s 1991 soul music tribute album this soul classic originally by Sam & Dave , is classic within own right with John’s and Jimmy’s stunning performance .
A Touch Of Paradise 1987 originally by Australian band Mondo Rock , apparently John asked Mondo Rock’s lead singer Ross Wilson to write him a song , well Ross never got around to it but he suggested to cover A Touch Of Paradise .
That’s Freedom 1990 originally by American singer songwriter Tom Kimmel which was minor hit on the American hit 100 in 1987 . John’s version just much more emotion and depth to it , which peaked 6 on the Australian Aria charts
The covered single that didn’t sell bigger than original but still was a hit or gained massive appeal because of John abilities to reimagine.
Help 1980 original by The Beatles . This all John’s rearrangement he took the Beatles sang in fast tempo minor and turned into slower major tempo soaring emotional ballad.
When The War Is Over with Little River Band 1986 the again solo version 1988 .
Original by Cold Chisel but Cold Chisel’s songwriting drummer Steve Prestwich straight away joined LRB in 1984 after Cold Chisel broke up .
John loved the song so Steve agreed for LRB to record it on their underrated album No Reins . LRB’s recording company tried to capitalise on When The War Is Over releasing it as a single when John left LRB and solo career took off with You’re The Voice , John recorded it again as solo artist because his recording company was nagging him to cover some Australian classics as b sides AC/DC’s It’s Long Way To The Top , was also one of these songs requested by the record company . But John regards It’s A Long Way To The Top as one best rock n roll songs of all time .
I regard John Farnham as one best cover artist there is even with Elvis Presley , Joe Cocker and Tina Turner

One of the better covers out there in terms of vocals and getting close to Johns range. You can't give any less than 100% for any of johns songs to even come close though & I feel like this was a bit too polished and needed a bit more oomph & grit
