      Hollywood never focused much on fights as much as it does on the content (story, fiction, drama, comedy, thriller, romcom, war etc). Martial arts were not culturally important for them as much as in China...That's the reason, they didn't get much limelight...Even Bruce Lee had to struggle for his first Hollywood film
      Once in a while they get chance to direct the legends like Jackie Chan, Jetli, Michael, Scott Adkins...but they screw up with movies like
      Shanghai knights, Rush hour (why the hell u wanted Jackie chan if you are going to focus more on comedy)
      Jetli's hollywood movies were disaster (even the fights were not properly choreographed)
      Donnie yen in Star wars and Fast & Furious (Tony jaa too)
      Scott Adkins in Dr strange

      He's such a beast. He has the explosiveness of a smaller guy but with that muscle mass behind everything every hit also just looks like it'd carry major damage. And of course, his control is what allows him to make it actually look like he's getting the other martial artist, which is something I think a lot of people won't consider. I still remember the one Universal Soldier movie where the bad guy's master plan was literally just being MJW haha.

      I find myself disappointed in this fight tbh. A lot of haymakers and over exaggerated moves. It's also known that in his recent films, the fights are sped up ever so slightly to make it seem faster than it really is. Nothing wrong with that, but you can tell when the physics of one of them falling or jumping up, etc, and it's slightly too fast

      Actually, most of the real fight doesn't rely on over exentended or flashy move. Why ? Because they don't hold any power. Why waste your energy on that.

      My issue with it is the "guy waiting to get back up to attack again in the background". Its an issue with a lot of 1 vs an army type films that come out of Hong Kong. You have to 100% ignore the background or the fight choreography loses a lot of its impact. If they didn't get up to attack again it would work better; maybe one of the reasons John Wick vs multiple people works well is because he makes sure they stay down. It just looks better that way from a choreography perspective.

      That scene also showed what range Daniel Craig has as an actor. I think you can read a lot of subtlety into it, which is rare in such a physically demanding sequence. From when he breaks his hand, to slashing his neck to finally stabbing him, you really hear the pain and desperation in the other guy’s yelling, and it’s dark stuff. Great performances from both actors. Bond almost seems like he has to look away from the horror of his last moments alive for a split second, and really his whole humanity washes over into this robotic stare and he forces himself to watch it. Really stand out scene to me.

      Personally I disagree with this. It wasn't a bad movie, but it does not belong here in my opinion. Before "Man of Tai Chi" I could probably think of 3 dozen other movies that I'd sooner put here.

    this is all thanks to bruce lee. prior to him the fight scenes where somewhere between "wtf?" "and are you kidding me that's the fight?" also "that's the fighter?" find an action movie or tv series prior to bruce lee where the fight were not hay makers and comical while the fighters were not out of shape couch potatoes. Hollywood has forever changed after Bruce.

      @@zacherywesterberg4137 not as comical as batman fight scenes when bruce was making movies. they did a crossover with the green hornet and batman. The meeting between the action heroes of the time and bruce was funny for us and stressful for them. Robin was supposed to beat kato in the original script. for those who saw the episode they fought to a draw. The actor playing robin was terrified for his life because he was quite honest with himself. you can see the choreography level being used at the time and what bruce lee did.

      English for Vietnamese i believe that without a doubt, bruce lee was one of a kind. all i’m saying is that a lot of these clips are over the top. they show some resemblance of a few fighting styles, but hollywood’ed up.

    • @englishforvietnamese5512
      @englishforvietnamese5512 4 года назад +2

      @@zacherywesterberg4137 for sure! it's supposed to be flashy fighting not realistic fighting. my point was that movies were made with over the top and higher impact action because of bruce lee not because it was more realistic. Bruce wouldn't done half the shit he did in the movie in a real fight... The actions before bruce was pathetic, unrealistic and underwhelmingly comical.
