    But how do I ask, "Are you okay" in a very formal setting? For example, someone on the street got hurt, I don't know this person, and I can't use "Tu".

      In that situation, I'd probably ask: Est-ce que ça va? It's still somewhat informal (just as Are you okay? is) but it's respectful as you're not using tu. You could also ask: Est-ce que vous allez bien? (Are you okay? using vous) or maybe even: Comment vous sentez-vous? If you need to find out how they're feeling.

      In that case, it's perfectly alright to ask: "Ça va?" or if you want to be a little more formal, then you can say: "Est-ce que ça va?"

      "Bien merci, et toi?" Only use "tu" with a verb, not on its own 😉
