    The way I understand it, if it specifically forbids a flight, such as in a FRZ or Airspace restriction, then you can’t fly without permission, all other places it’s up to you to judge on the day if the flight is safe. Just because the area is red, doesn’t mean flights are prohibited. For example of this, our clubs flying field is covered by a big red box, but this is a controlled airspace (CTR) from 2000 feet up and doesn’t require permissions to fly, unless you are planning on flying above the 2000 foot ceiling.

    I personally do not log a flight, the reason is, I am disabled and im not happy thay anyone who has the app knows I am flying £1000+ worth of equipment, if the information just went to the authorities I would have no problem giving that information. Remote ID is also a huge problem for me, again if it was just the authorities that got my flying info I wouldnt have a problem, but its not working that way, anyone can get that info if they wanted, I will be selling now up as my risk is too great now.

    Thanks for the information. Good overview. However, as I get older I feel less and less able to go and fly my drone. To be honest it is fear. I used to fear losing the drone or crashing it but as the regulations and restrictions have come in, and look to be increasing in 2024, I feel that I have no confidence in being able to fly without violating some rule or law. I am a law abiding citizen in all things and I am mortified if I think for one moment that I may have violated the law. Despite excellent apps like Drone Assist, I feel it is still impossible to be 100% certain that you are not violating a law, either national or local bylaw, or running the risk of confrontation with members of the public or an official when flying in an area. I avoid all types of confrontation, I fear physical and verbal assault. Keeping to the Drone code is not difficult to be honest but as you say, that is not all you have to worry about. If I accidentally ended up in court being prosecuted for flying my drone then I would likely never leave the house again. A criminal record can destroy your life and prevent you from travelling overseas for example and therefore I have decided, reluctantly to sell my drones this month. The risk is too great to the extent that it obliterates any enjoyment. I will just stay on the ground with my main hobby of photography.

    It seems silly the app doesn't have ADSB integrated into it. Having the ability to trigger an alert when an aircraft equipped with it comes within a configurable range of your planned flight whilst it's active, would be invaluable.
    More for the slightly riskier areas where you could do with something like a heads up of impromptu helicopter traffic.

    Great Video I am enjoying your content and thank you for sharing yourknowledge! You’ve probably been asked a million times, but I am new to drones I live 2.25k from a yellow small airfield zone and am lead to believe that it is just warning zone and I can fly as long as I keep a close eye on things and bring it down if I see or hear other aircraft is that correct or is it a case of no flying in this zone as too close to a airfield I own a sub 249g drone I am just looking for some clarity on this matter again great content 🫶🏻

      Hey! Thanks for the kind feedback. The yellow airfield circles are warnings only. It might be an idea to try calling them. You might find it is a glider club or even a farmer with a grass strip.
      Otherwise, as you stated, be aware that you might see low flying aircraft in that location and take avoiding action, etc.

    I was looking forward to getting a drone to fly at my local beach (crosby) but looks like I won't be getting one now :-( don't drive so I'm limited to where I can go, but as allways the council have to ruin everything, 22 miles of coastline all with sssi that clearly has nothing to to with protecting wildlife and more to do with making money. All 22 miles need permission first from the council, which can take up to 5 days and of course there is a fee, so I have to go through loads of hassle to get permission and pay, which by time I get permission, it could be a waste of time and money because by time I get permission the weather may not be suitable to fly, so will have to go through all the hassle and expense to try get permission again for another day.

      @Geeksvana  Месяц назад

      Hey Michael! That sounds frustrating. Can I ask which SSSI this is for? Would be interesting to look it up.
      You could try flying under something like the Article 16 Authorisation from organisations like FPVUK. That could open up other placed for you to fly locally. We have a video on the channel explaining it.
      I hope you get flying.

    Where I work we have a slight leaking roof and had a company come in with a drone to check out the roof. Because we are in the Southampton airport FRZ his drone said he needed authorisation from the airport so the roofer had to get permission from ATC to fly 30ft (two storey building) but was refused so he couldn't check our roof

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Mark! There is a standardised way to apply for permission with most airports, and Southampton is within that. Unfortunately it takes a set period of time, so it is possible the drone operator did not give themselves enough time. It is a common issue.
      Although it is just a small drone flying at 30ft, the airport has to go through the same process for every permission. It can be frustrating but checking airspace prior to flying will usually identify any permissions required beforehand.

      That’s stupid, all it’ll do is encourage people to fly regardless and then the airport has no idea how many people are flying wherever. Our local airfield has taken a similar stance, no permissions at all and blanket denial, yet, the big arse airport down the road, Gatwick, just need the location and a call when taking off and once completed. AIAA or Areas of Intense Aerial Activity are fairly rare in the UK but should certainly be treated with caution, as you have. Culdrose is home to the Royal Navy Merlin helicopters deployed on ships and land. So flights are frequent and being military, they are allowed to fly low.
      There are times listed on the NOTAM to show the peak times of aircraft movement. I would suggest you contact RNAS Culdrose. They will likely be very helpful to get you flying.
      I notice that someone has gone to the level of submitting a NOTAM for a drone flight in the area, so they might require that. It is some unique airspace and needs a careful approach. Let me know if you contact them and what the advice was.

    I took a Sphere shot from 300 feet just outside Mosborough village. I do these all around Sheffield and get some great feedback from viewers on social media. On this occasion I received a complaint and a lady decided to demand I take it down as it was an invasion of privacy. On the Sphere there are no people visible and directly below the drone there is a field. You can see some houses in the distances but I feel at 300 plus feet I am not in a position to invade privacy and no one is or can be identified. This Lady decided to post me the CAA guide on invading peoples privacy and as a hobbyist I do not fly close to the ground and do catch urban sites to show the. Great design and the look of our estates. Five years flying and no complaints. The complaint was sent after she saw the picture and wasn’t aware of the flight at the time.
    I believe I’m ok flying a sub 250g drone and for this pic I was just outside the village and I have refused to remove photo to protect my legal stance for myself and other responsible drone pilots from losing the benefits of our hobby by arguing people who have nothing better to do than get there own way.

      It sounds like you are doing everything you should be doing and keeping people's privacy in mind. Sadly, I get the occasional person insisting they have privacy over their entire house being shown or similar. Hopefully, as the years pass people will get used to what privacy really means in photography terms.

      This is the only comment showing on this video today. I would assume it was therefore removed by RUclips as they didn't provide any moderation options for us.

    In relation to sssi the Lake District prohibits all flight in sssi (which are every where). Do you know if there is any flexibility with the relevant authorities

      It's my opinion that the yellow areas including SSSI's, are to make you aware of potential ground hazards, not forbid flights. It's for you to judge the risk as you have been made aware. Please advise if I'm wrong.

      I add my flights to the Drone Assist App (Altitude Angels) map from CoverDrone’s version of it .
      I asked ATC In Glasgow did they view the flights listed on the app and to my surprise they said no.
      They did say that they are delighted to get a call advising them of planned flights.
      They have always been extremely helpful.

    I had an issue yesterday at the Wrexham ground, I unlocked the authorisation zone on the handset and on the Dji fly website, but when I entered the yellow zone I had a message saying I was in an authorisation zone and to exit, but when I tried the drone was frozen I couldn’t go forward or back just up and down and return to home wouldn’t work either, luckily I could walk over to it and was in a car park so could land
    Anyone have any idea what happened and would I need to report it to Dji

      Someone on YT gave me a useful warning about this. He was flying over the sea off the Cornish coast when it happened. He managed to find a small window that allowed him to fly it back. He was not in a FRZ but DJI app thought so.

      I have a way of avoiding this with the DJI system. I will make a short video on it very soon and tag it here.

      I had a similar issue in Panama City earlier in the year, I was stuck over water, with pre-authorisation. I ended up with a couple of miles jog having found a small channel and land the drone on a small piece of land. Having queried the airport authority, apparently the FRZ is variable! However, they don’t issue a notam on change?

    I've just bought a drone to help me film some fishing content, and im absolutely mind boggled by all these rediculous rules. What is the world coming to, our freedom is slowly disappearing from us every year!

    • @Geeksvana
      @Geeksvana  5 месяцев назад

      The drone rules are currently more simple and open than they have been for many years. You can fly a sub 250g drone in more places and closer to people in the UK than you ever could.
      We are sharing the airspace with lots of other users, many of which have people on board. So, there it is always going to feel like there is a lot of rules for a small drone. But you have to remember who the other users are and the safety benchmark becomes much higher.
      So, rather than 'freedom' disappearing, we have gained freedom through these newer rules.
      Sadly, the amount of idiots currently out flying drones however they see fit and getting caught doing stupid things is likely to end many of the current freedoms we enjoy with our drones at the moment.

    Where can you fly your drone in the uk without issues. Simply put ,knowwhere ! Its eather a no fly zone or a member of the none educated public saying or complaning we can't. The issue being we have to know the rules to fly. But those that don't have to know the rules ie the public feel impowered to inforce their beliefs. So there is now few places you can fly without being challenged.

    Best thing to do with your drones is box them up and sell them this hobby is finished.

      We literally have more freedom with our recreational drones than ever before. Don't worry about what might happen until it happens. You can fly a sub 250g drone in more places, with fewer rules than ever before in UK.

      @@Geeksvanathat’s the attitude that has bought us to this point in the first place, everybody originally said “don’t worry about it yet, it’s not law” then suddenly overnight they were banned from flying in places they’d flown for 50+ years.

      @testpilotian3188 that's not what I said at all. That's not the attitude I hold.
      There is plenty of content on this channel, as you well know, highlighting the issues and challenges the hobby faces. However, we also need to remember to get out and fly and enjoy what we have as well.

      @@Geeksvana you said “don’t worry about what might happen until it happens” that is EXACTLY what the likes of the BMFA told their members 10 years ago, and look where that’s got us, more regulated than microlight pilots. I agree on the get out any fly bit as well but we should be worried about what the future holds since if the CAA get their way, there won’t be one for the hobbyists, and if that’s the case, best to sell up now and get a decent price than the pennies on the pound you’d get further down the line.
