This was amazing to hear! I sold my 2000 RS to my daughter with the condition I have first rights buy it back. It only had 94k miles in 2012. Regretted every day I saw her drive home and the car deteriorated before my eyes. Eventually bought it back from her 5 years later with 146k and the entire car peeling clearcoat like she drove it through a volcano. I’m In the process of rebuilding it to its previous glory. She to approached me about 6 months ago wanting the car back. Nah...never letting it go.
@@marcianoperez6640 yeah its still running. I haven't had to buy that many parts aside from replacing the timing belt and a few other things. The rear quarters are a tiny bit rusted though so I might have to get subie savers.
I remember sitting in a 2.5 RS at the LA Auto Show back in '98. Rally Blue with gold wheels. I still think the GC8 was just about perfect. You're a good Dad, Bucky... 👍
FINALLY! Honestly after hearing the story... I am SO glad that she decided to drive your truck instead! It's a beautiful car, man. Even more badass that you put all the work in on her! Nice video yet again!
Seibon parts?! Wish my dad was able to afford that when I bought my 1st car at 16! I couldn’t even get my dad to co-sign for my car that was only $3,000. I had to work 2 shitty jobs to get it. I rode my bike to one, and rode the bus to the other. You’re very fortunate! But I did get to drive to my skatepark on the day that Bucky and a couple of his mates skated a demo! I’ll never forget it! Cheers 👍🏼
My best friend, bought a 2001 RS 4 door new, the day after Christmas. I was with him. Best car he ever had! I regret not buying one. I finally wised up, rocking in a 2018 Impreza sport sedan. I hope to pas it to my 4yr old girl when she turns 16. Your daughter is very blessed, and you built a very nice car!
As a father of 17year old twins AND as a Subaru maniac for decades now... What to do? Wanna let my Kidz drive with confidence, fun and safe. So, I'm gonna buy two other subis? Or let them drive mine... It is good to hear your true words about being a father, bucky! And we all know that we share the same problems... Peace and greetz from Germany! 🤘🏻
My oldest daughter was the same way. You have to understand that the RS was the first car that daddy got her. She wants it to stay in the family or with her. Sentimental.
Nice video, i didn't knew this channel, but now im subscribing, the first intention of giving this beautyful car to your daughter was cute but, now with that time that has come through i think this car belongs only to you! keep it man, cheers.
Awesome work and awesome car. I watched the built not bought series and it was awesome to see the journey. I started looking for some 2 door subie but couldn't find anything near me, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled. That's one hell of a project and I can only imagine what it is like to drive one.
This low key my favorite car channel. It’s sort of Rob Dahm-esque with it’s just bare bones honesty and actually showing people work on cars. Also, I’m really missing worldRX. I was so amped for GCK’s new line-up (Andreas and Doran) and Johan being back.
You're an awesome dad, and I would keep that car until the day I died... She probably realized how much personality the car had AFTER she grew up and realized that not all vehicles are the same. Especially ones that have been built and cared for. Sometimes kids don't realize what's cool until they grow up. A lot like myself with the music my parents listened to as I grew up..
Dad does something nice for kid, Dad enjoys the process, tries to share with kid. Kid doesn't have the perspective to see what Dad did. I feel you Bucky.
Skateboarders always assembled their own skateboards. It makes sense the pros went on to not wanting super cars but building dream Subies they wanted from 90s.
Incredible gift man, kudos to you for giving such and amazing gift to you daughter and also to you daughter for loving this kind of car. Most people would think that with the money that you have she would ask for something much expensive. Great way to educate your children and show them the value of hard work. Can't wait to seeing both of you working on the new subie.
One of my biggest regrets in life was selling mine. Those cars just feel special. Great video. Love that you are reminding people how awesome the GC8 is.
I can’t explain how blessed I feel to have a 99 coupe rs as my first car...and my first project car. Me and my dad bought one off craigslist and are in the process of fully restoring it to its full beauty. It’s got a spray can paint job too and a motor and transmission on its last leg. However that’s good because I get the chance to sti swap it to an ej207 with a six speed. So far we’ve lifted it (because Montana weather is a bitch) and also done the full interior detailing and new stereo. I can’t wait to see the project finished😁

Super clean car man i love it, i wish there were more 2.5 RS's in the usa since we never got the older WRX models cause i gotta say a 1990's world rally blue impreza is definitely a site to behold.
Absolutely love all the content brother and please keep it coming! I'm sad I watched all your videos bc now I have to wait patiently for the next one lol.
Thanks for this vlog, I love this model. First Subaru model I fell in love with as a kid in middle school. My P.E teacher in 7th grade bought this car. I was stoked to find out how cool she really is, lol. Never got the one of my dreams but... its still a Subaru ( 07 WRX). And no it's not stock or nearly as clean as yours 🤣
I was catching up on Built Not Bought and this car really caught my eye in the background. Cool story and amazing job restoring the car! You should save it for her and give it back when she's had more driving experience and you feel like she'll really appreciate it. Like after dailying a manual and not crashing for a few years perhaps.
Looks sick and I definitely wouldn't be giving it back to her either lol. I can't wait until my98 rs is finished it's an Acadia green body with a blue steel mica jdm front clip, I have the widebody from 6ovrcrst that is going to go on it and I was going to take it to macco just to get it one solid color but I'll probably just do it myself seeing their work on this car with the white. I just can't decide between the stock Acadia green or the jdm blue steel, the blue steel looks absolutely gorgeous but the green is growing on me. Keep up the great content and keep whipping these amazing cars.
Man, if I was gifted a 99' 2.5 RS I'd be stoked. They're hard to come by these days, especially a nice one like that. Honestly, other than the unobtainable 22B, the 2.5 RS is like my holy grail car to own. One day, hopefully, I will.
Haha just put 2&2 together from the intro, your Bucky Lasek...sick man, respect, the buckits badass. Enjoying the channel, from the ramp ro the roads! 😆👊
Nice work putting the RS back together. You and my dad are the only ones I know of that actually like doing bodywork lol. And you're both good at it. I did bodywork when I was a kid on cars and small aircraft. It wasn't my thing. It's funny. I was thinking about why Bucky doesn't have a truck. If you have a house, if you do your own work, a pickup is a necessity. I think the first 9k I put on my previous pickup were trips to Homedepot while I was fixing up my house. I've since went full size so I can trailer my car to the track, but I digress. I liked the end of the vid too. It was like... parent mode, engage.
Sal Esposito Haha, yeah I don’t really like body work either but since I know how to do it I just get after it any way. I still have my truck but both my girls have had their ways with it at this point and it’s tired 😂
Wow cool story! Glad your daughter was alright in the truck accident. I was thinking when you first said you were giving her this car that they aren't as safe as newer vehicles. Funny she wants it back now. Maybe someday! Imagine painting a rally blue coupe with a cheap white paint job. SMH.

Careful sliding around on that 5MT. I've rebuilt my 5MT 3 times because the little c-clip on the center diff likes to pop out whenever you do donuts in it =P Thanks for saving that poor, neglected car!
I just found ur channel from hoonigan and I’m so happy you have my dream cars and dream builds I hope to one day own this car I have a 2008 civic but I would love to own a 2.5 rs
This was my first car, GC8 99 in rally blue pearl, I think the color code was 74F. I replaced it with a '05 LegacyGT 3 years later. I loved the Legacy more but the impreza was way more fun and what got me into the love for cars.
Yup I hear you on the flavor of the month thing. Give her the option to learn to drive it well, then we'll talk about the swap. My daughter learned on a 5 speed 03 Forester. Once she got the chance to drive it on her own without dad watching every move she settled in nicely. Worst parts were riding shotgun with her missing 3rd for 1st lol. Fortunately the engine lived, clutch recently replaced after 2 years of her driving it (plus maybe 4 of mine before). She did well.

Awesome job and awesome dad! My son turns 16 this year and it would be great to be able to do something like this for him. I just don’t really have the space to work (or probably the patience).
One of my all time favorites. I want one so bad. This was supposed to be my first "new" car but I lost my job right before I bought one back in 2000. Still want one though I think it's one of the Nicest body Subaru has ever made.
I have a green 96 gc8 2 door it’s been sitting in my garage for a while don’t have the motivation right now to work on it but there’s something about that car that i don’t want to give up on it
2.5 RS is what got me back into a Subaru. I would drive by one on my way to work each day and say to myself "I need one of those". I ended up with a Impreza GT instead. Still the RS catches my eye.

You should do a very basic build on it. I know it’s the run of the mill but I would love to see that with a sti swap full bolt on stock body built. Nothing crazy just a very basic rsti or even a wrx swap would be cool.
Awesome restoration! It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Really enjoying all the subi content. Any chance you can go over the cars you've had in the past? From the 2000s skateboarding days, I remember you did an ON Video segment with your USDM E36 M3.
I've got a 14 year old and have been already thinking about the car she'll have in a couple of years. Would love to make it an excuse for her to learn how to wrench with me. Awesome video!

She wasn’t ready then but now it’s a different story and I’m stoked to be working on the Brat with her. Plus I love the RS 👊🏼😉
@BuckYeah Brats are sweet! Will be nice if my girl likes to work on cars. We’ll see
Imagine owning 2 GC platforms.... Jealous of you Bucky, but happy for you
Peter Nguyen I mean you could it for like 9k 🤣🤣
GM* platforms
@@dreww47 True, but where I live, they're rare and to find one without rust in the rust-belt is even more rare.
@@saarekas8177 What do you mean GM platforms?

Damn man in that time you looks like wolverine 😂🤘 beautiful present for your daughter 👏👏👏👏 and another amazing video keep punching bro.
Damn dude this took me back. I was at the Carlsbad C&C you parked next to my Hawkeye.
That RS pretty sweet looking good work man
hahha damn thats quite a project Bud! Great work!
Such a beautiful car man.... 👍
Nice video, I'm glad you're not giving the RS back to your daughter 😳👍 keep it safe and tell new generations to buy different cars other than the RS🤣🤣
I have a green 96 gc8 2 door it’s been sitting in my garage for a while don’t have the motivation right now to work on it but there’s something about that car that i don’t want to give up on it
CIBAO Get after it!
Shes a beaut!! Love that car Bucky...needs a big turbo!!
Nice work on the blue rs. She must love it. I wish mines was that clean
2.5 RS is what got me back into a Subaru. I would drive by one on my way to work each day and say to myself "I need one of those". I ended up with a Impreza GT instead. Still the RS catches my eye.
These videos make miss my 98RS gc8 I bought brand new. I had so much work into it and sold it in 2005 for kids and needed cash. I so regret that move.
Buck yeah. Bucky u do some good body work man. Wish u could help me on my rust on my wagon dang
sleeksm4 It Just takes time!
@@BuckyLasekOfficial mines gonna need welding in new qtrs and rockers from subiesavers. I dont have anyone around me that will help me :/ I missed out seeing you at 100aw this year glad you're still making content it's awesome to hear some of these story's how things came to be.
You should do a very basic build on it. I know it’s the run of the mill but I would love to see that with a sti swap full bolt on stock body built. Nothing crazy just a very basic rsti or even a wrx swap would be cool.
vizard325 This one is staying how it is unless the motor goes. Then there are options👍🏼
Awesome restoration! It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Really enjoying all the subi content. Any chance you can go over the cars you've had in the past? From the 2000s skateboarding days, I remember you did an ON Video segment with your USDM E36 M3.
R K I will when it seems right👍🏼

I've got a 14 year old and have been already thinking about the car she'll have in a couple of years. Would love to make it an excuse for her to learn how to wrench with me. Awesome video!
I currently have a 2001 impreza outback, pretty clean other than the shitty paint job the previous owner did, and the slight bit of quarter rust. Lots of plans!
the performance of these cars really stands out in wet pavement. It plows through snow like a hot knife through butter. It really is the wow factor.
jaylaw It’s awesome!
