- Friends, as you may have heard, Pope Francis recently appointed me the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester (Minnesota). I will be formally installed on July 29.
On today's episode of “The Word on Fire Show,” Brandon Vogt and I discuss how I found out about the appointment, how the process works, how it will affect Word on Fire, and what I'm looking forward to most in my new diocese.
A listener asks, what is it like to act in persona Christi from a physical and emotional perspective?

Welcome to Minnesota Bishop Barron! I'm a long-time fan of Word on Fire! May God continue to bless you which in turn blesses all of us! My prayers are with and for you!
Bishop Barron, you brought me back to the great faith of my youth. Since watching your videos, I returned to Mass, restarted praying the rosary and more recently have signed up to receive your Liturgy of the Hours prayer books through Word on Fire, I can't wait for them to arrive. These experiences have helped me find my centre and I value my daily prayer time so much. Today I re-read The Strangest Way and whatever your own initial reaction to your move I know you will continue to follow the difficult third path according to Divine Providence. I will continue to pray for you and if you have time please pray for Irish Catholics like myself and help more of us to reclaim our faith and walk the good path with you. God Bless You. Thomas from Belfast.
Welcome to Minnesota Bishop Barron. As a lifelong Minnesotan we are going to love having you.
As a Minnesotan, I am so exited to welcome Bishop Barron to our state!
Likewise, we are blessed here in Minnesota with dynamite Catholic thinkers and leaders.
@@flintwestwood3596 can you share what happened?
Ditto!
@@jesseholthaus8357 It's quite simple, I got a job over there and the people working with me treated me like crap when I revealed my Catholic beliefs. They said there wasn't evidence for God's existence, and that the Church was racist and all this other nonesense. Only the demons attack the Catholic Church like that.
@@flintwestwood3596 Thanks Flint for being brave and revealing your beliefs to them!
Bishop Barron, you are the father to all of us. Congratulations on your new appointment. Thank you for your ministry. God loves you, and we all love you.
Congratulations Bishop Barron on your new diocese! My son gave me the book "Catholicism" which you wrote, as a present for my birthday. It is one of the best gifts I've ever had , I think it is a must read book for all Catholics and non-Catholics alike. Thank you Bishop, may the Holy Spirit guide your path always, wherever you may be. God bless.
Congratulations bishop baron and thank you for all you do for Catholic faith. You have become my intellectual hero.and it's great that you are becoming a bishop on my birthday. God bless you bishop barron
Tomorrow morning, I will be watching the installation of Bishop Robert Barron live. Thanks to all who support WOF and contribute to make it available to those who follow His Excellence. I appreciate, again, the opportunity to attend a Mass even if only remotely. I realize our unity as I recall, we are all one in Him who walks with us. May God bless you and your Diocese, Your Excellence.
Woohoo Minnesota. You all have Fr. Mike and now Bishop Barron. You all are blessed. God bless you all.
There isn't a thing Bishop Barron puts out that I don't love. HE has helped me so much with being a more social, evangelical, committed Catholic. He has helped me with phrasing, responding to others questions. He has encouraged me to dig deeper for the beauty and history of our Catholic faith, to appreciate the fathers and doctors and saints of our incredible faith, and he always brings me back to my very center, that I am made for God. Thank you Bishop. Blessings on you and on your amazing team, of course!
Bishop Barron, God bless you in your new Ministry!. I am a French-Canadian follower who regularly listen to your Sunday sermons and who reads your daily messages. I am is so uplifted by your work and proud of your influence in a world where so much negative events could discourage many of us. I thank you for being such a positive « Sign of Times ». De tout coeur, MERCI!
Congratulations, Bishop Barron. God Bless. Praying for the Holy Spirit be ever at your side.🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations Bishop Barron! Also, many thanks to you, Brandon and your team at WOF. In addition to my wonderful local RCIA leaders you have played a pivotal role in my conversion to Roman Catholicism. May God continue to bless all of your endeavors.
CONGRATULATIONS BISHOP BARRON. I am so very happy for you. I am from the Archdiocese of Chicago and I have followed you since your very early years in the Priesthood. God’s continued Blessings on who you are and all you do!!!
I am so glad you are online so we can listen to your wonderful homilies no matter where you are!
Bishop Barron you are THE MAN! I fell out of relationship with the lord until I found your videos and you've really helped to spark up my deep rooted love for Jesus again. I'm even considering converting to catholicism. I've looked into taking RCIA classes at the parish that my grandmother belonged to. I donate to word on fire monthly because I truly believe you're doing the lords work. Thank you for making Christianity more than just surface for me. It feels like you help people to see Jesus on a deeper more intellectual level. Listening to your videos has shown me that a relationship with the lord shouldn't just be blind faith. There are plenty of super smart people who believe in Jesus. Todays media makes Christians seem silly and superstitious but I think Bishop Barron and Word on Fire have really shut that idea down!
THANK YOU!
God bless your journey, Mary! Some great Catholic youtube channels; Reason & Theology, Counsel of Trent, Ascension Presents, the Godsplaining podcast.
@@fragwagon I've been watching Pints with Aquinas too and I love that one also! Thank you!
@@maryradoy6256 yes! Fr Pine baptized my dear wife! If you have Dominicans anywhere near you, they are very solidly Catholic.
Yes, I have had the same experience as you say. You see, my family raised me Catholic but when I got married although my husband converted for a little while, after about three years he told me he wanted to find a new religion with me, something that both of us could appreciate. And so we joined a nondenominational Christian group. But about a year ago, I thought about joining the Catholic Church again. My husband said he did not want to go to church anymore. And so I looked at Bishop Barron’s videos, and they are what made me decide to go back to the church. It has been a wonderful experience!
@@tempesnyder6243 Hopefully one day your husband will return to Church with you.
I’m in LA and we’re going to miss you, Bishop Barron, but your new Diocese is blessed! I’m excited to see how the Holy Spirit works through you there as He has here. ❤️👍🙏
Best wishes and bless you withthegifts of the Holy
I am from Malta and so look forward to the Sunday Homily every weekend. I hope and pray it keeps on going. Prayers for you Bishop Barron 🙏
We love you Bishop Barron! We will keep you in our prayers!
That's why I admire those who serve the Lord as Bishops and priests. I am from Cuba, in 2008 I came to Toronto, and because of the long winter, I decided to move to Florida. After two years we had to move back to Toronto, and that was hard, I couldn't believe I was going back to the cold, it was one of the hardest moments of my life, I thought I was never going to come back, and after two years here I was. As humans we have dreams, desires, things that we love, in my case, the ocean, the beach, to go fishing any time of the year, those are the thing that I love to do. But when God calls you to be in certain place, we have no choice to say yes and be obedient. Bishop Barron was so in love with Santa Barbara, the mountains, the ocean, and now he is back in cold lands again. God bless this new journey, God bless you Bishop Barron.
California, Minnesota, it doesn't matter....as long as you continue preaching to us on Word on Fire! God is with you always wherever you go, Bishop! Good luck on your new assignment from Jesus :)
God blessed you always bishops Robert Barron you are a blessing to everyone ❤️❤️❤️
Very, very happy for you, Bishop Barron!!! I know you will be a wonderful father for our brothers and sisters in your new diocese in Minnesota. 😊🙏🏻🔥🕊 God bless your new appointment, and once again, Congratulations!!! ❤️
Congratulations and much appreciation to Bishop Barron for shepherding his new flock. Continued prayers. 🙏🏼
Welcome to Minnesota Bishop. We are glad to have you. You will love it here.
Our Best wishes Bishop Barron! Your preaching style is clear and profound- God blessed you tons, on this new journey-Our thoughts and prayers are with you- 🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations on your appointment as Bishop of Winona-Rochester, Bishop Barron! May Spirit guide and protect you as you shepherd your new 'flock'.
Joe (Sydney, Australia)
I am elated, a member of your soon diocese, Winonw Rochester. I admired our Bishop Quinn. We were in suspense about who would be next! So very happy beyond words for your appointment. Can't wait until you visit our parish in La Crescent. You have our prayers.
Godspeed, Bishop Barron! Thank you for your joyful 'Yes' to the Lord & His plan for you.
The presence of many holy leaders and people, as well as organizations, throughout the state of Minnesota is indeed intriguing. May there be unity and light among and from God's people there.
Glad we have the internet! We're still with you while we're in Southern California and you're now in Minnesota! God bless everyone!
We here in Rochester are really excited to have you as our Bishop. I'm sorry about the winters here, they are very cold compared to sunny California. I really like what you have to say about wanting to help the poor and those in need, I also share that desire to help. We have a lot of immigrants, and also a lot of people struggling to get by with the high cost of living, and I personally know many people with medical conditions who are struggling with finances, and even getting compassionate medical care.
He’s from Chicago, so I’m sure he will manage the winters. I think his biggest challenge is being from Chicago and he is now in Viking country..
Bishop Barron congratulations on your new appointment and continued blessings. You will be installed on July 29th, which is my birthday. I am so excited for you and for Minnesota. I live in Texas and have followed you for the past five years and have enjoyed listening to your sermons online and have a lot of your books and have the Word on Fire Bibles. Thank you for those. God bless you richly, as always.
Our loss is MN's gain. I will always remember hosting your University Series talk at my parish and welcoming you to a packed church. I was the one who, in the sacristy, called you Father. Immediately caught my error, but you were gracious as always and we all chuckled. Congratulations on your new assignment
Thank you Bishop for making clear once again that our life and work is not about us. May you be blessed some more as you take on the new assignment. From the Philippines.
GOD Bless, Bishop Barron!!
Welcome to Minnesota. May God richly bless you here in your new ministry.
Congratulations Bishop Barron on your new assignment. May the Good Lord God Almighty bless all Priests and the Religious 🙏🏾🕊 Greetings from Botswana 🇧🇼.
Congratulations, Bishop Barron! We will miss you dearly here in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, but our loss is Minnesota’s gain. I will continue to look forward to your inspired Word on Fire content!
Congrats Bishop Barron.
We love you so much
Welcome to Minnesota! I am so blessed to have found your online podcast🙏I love what I learn from you❤️Thank you Bishop Barron🤗
Congratulations Bishop Barron✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️. I listen to you all the time. Love your Homilies, I’m not Catholic I’ve been attending a Womens Catholic Bible study group for over 25 years! You have many fans in my class. I’ve learned so very much from you about Jesus Christ and His importance in all our lives. Thanks for all you do for Jesus Christ and spreading His word.

Bishop Baron thank you for your inspiration, teaching and guidance through your Ministry and videos. They are spiritually enriching and encouraging. I listen to you from Kenyan and Liberia. God bless you always
We wish The Bishop the very best in his new post... wish it was in Florida... it would be wonderful to see him in person regularly! Bishop Barron is an amazing blessing! I got my favorite local retired priest watching him and he too really enjoys the Bishop.
Bless you Bishop Barron! Your videos on RUclips of the rosary and your lectures brought me back to the Catholic Church. Someday, hopefully a long time from now, you'll be a Saint! thank you so much for everything..
If there really is a God, Bishop Barrow will never be a saint. Omg. Why would he??
So happy you are coming to Minnesota. My youngest sister is going to college in Winona! May your time here be fruitful.
Minnesotans welcome you Bishop Barron! We look forward to your work and presence here!
Congratulations, Bishop Barron, on your new assignment as Bishop of Winona-Rochester Diocese! 👏🏼👍🏼I’ve been following you since you were a Rector at Mundelein Seminary, then I met you in person at St. Mary of the Annunciation Parish in Mundelein when you presided the Mass & gave a lecture there. I’m so happy for you for being appointed twice as Bishop by Pope Francis. This shows that Pope Francis has a lot of confidence in you. I also have several of your books & videos, as well as The Bible, Volume 1 & 2. I also subscribe to your Daily Readings & Reflection, Sunday Homily, & your RUclips page. I am your avid fan & we miss you in Illinois. Minnesota is very blessed to have you Bishop Barron! May God bless & guide you always. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
What I have learned to appreciate in the church is that it periodically reinvents itself to grow. This is just part of a growth cycle and reinvention of this ministry. Thank you Bishop Barron and the team. Can’t wait to see how it unfolds, God continue to bless you and the ministry
GOD bless you Bishop Barron, i wish you all the best. I'm praying for your physical health and spiritual protection. GOD bless you always. Be happy and stay safe ➕ ❤

Dear Bishop Barron; thank you for all the knowledge and viewing pleasure you have shared with us all! God Bless you and help you in your new assignment. Thanks, Donald
I’m so happy you will be joining us in Minnesota, Bishop! I’m a transplant, and I have been very pleasantly surprised at the strong and vivacious Catholic faith here. I hope you enjoy living here. Welcome.
Congratulations on your new assignment as Bishop! You’re presence is felt all over the world and individually by each of us. Keep on teaching ❤️
This is my old home diocese! So excited
Bishop, we are so excited to have you in our beautiful state! We have wonderful people, beautiful nature, and some of the finest examples of ecclesial architecture in the United States, including the first minor basilica in North America! It is a wonderful, albeit often very cold, place to be, and we hope you find a good home here. Welcome, Bishop!
Also, your diocese, I believe, kisses up against the Diocese of Sioux Falls, led by Bishop Don DeGrood. He is a wonderful man and priest, and as close to a living saint as I have met personally.
Thanks for clarifying. I was surprised to hear him say that his diocese extends out to Rapid City!
Bishop Don DeGrood is a man after God's own heart, indeed.
God bless you in your new diocese. Bishop Barron, you’re like a sweet music to my ears. Thanking God for you.
Bless you always Bishop Barron. You have strengthened my Faith and Love in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church and I thank you. No doubt my Catholic brothers and sisters will delight in your presence in Minnesota.
Congratulations to Bishop Barron for the new role. God bless 🙏💜💜💜💐
