  • Getting to stay on the beautiful Komani Lake is what one extra day will get you on the Valbona to Theth hike…
    After a couple of weeks in Montenegro, we made our way to Albania, the final country on our Balkans road trip!
    The point to point, Valbona to Theth hike in Northern Albania is one of the most popular things to do in the country and getting to the trail is a bit of an adventure in itself - you have mini buses, ferries and more mini buses!
    From Shkoder a lot of people will make the trip to Valbona in one day. You take the mini bus to the ferry terminal on Komani lake, hop on the ferry and another bus will pick you up 3 hours later on the other side and finish the drive to Valbona.
    Komani Lake is incredibly beautiful so instead of rushing through, we spent the night out on the lake. There is a really nice guesthouse right on the banks of the water and we really enjoyed our stay there! We rented a kayak and simply just enjoyed the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere!
    On the second day we finished the ferry ride to Fierza, took a van to Valbona and got ready for the big hike the following day! Stay tuned for the next episode where we take on the Valbona Pass!

    Just did the Valbone to Theth hike yesterday with 13 other people. I’m about 100 lbs overweight and everyone said oh it’ll be easy. Every RUclips video makes it look like a piece of cake. Yeah no. I made it to the top first. But going down into theth was excruciating on the knees. I can barely walk today lol. I’m glad I did it but I would highly suggest anyone going to be ready. IT IS NOT AN EASY HIKE!!! Very steep from the beginning of the hike all the way to the top and even steeper on the way down. 6 of our group couldn’t finish and had to be escorted down to the bottom where a van could pick them up.

    Very cool video! I enjoyed it very much. I've been to Albania in 2022 for about 2 months and enjoyed it's natural beauty. I really do think that beautiful country has to do something about the trash situation. There is so much trash lying around, that is so sad and I think that will be bad for tourism or maybe already is. You can can even see a number of plastic bottles swimming on the beautiful Komani lake in your video. That makes me so sad.

    5:47, that's shala river but you're still in the flooded lake area, you should have kept going upstream until it becomes a river, the colors are unreal further upstream.

      Thanks so much for the info! We made it all the way to the guest house/restaurant but that was as far as we were willing to go on the Kayak! Sad we missed the best part of the river... I guess just one more reason to go back again someday 😁!

    • @zjarr6279
      @zjarr6279 2 года назад +1

      @@WaypointofView The colors are almost the same as Valbona river, but with ten times the volume of water. Shala river starts in Theth, which I'm sure you have seen by now, it is the same river just further downstream. The Albanian Alps are my favorite in Albania, but there are nice mountains all over the country. I do appreciate your videos, I prefer to hike in my vacations as well and eat village food. It's so great for your health and the instincts. Most people were hunter and gatherers until 8,000 years ago, hiking is a recreation of that primal state, and the soul loves it.

    where did you stay in Valbone? Also - did the ferry drop you off at the Koman Lake Stinet villas and pick you back up? Would this be possible with a rental car to be dropped off there and picked up?

      Ahh sorry for the delay! Thanks so much for subscribing! ☺️☺️ We don’t really have a video answering questions like what you are asking per se but I can try and help here! It’s kinda all over the board but generally I start with rentalcars.com just to get a baseline but I rarely actually use them. Typically I just Google car rental in whatever town we’re wanting to rent from and reach out to a bunch of local companies that get good Google reviews via WhatsApp and then try to negotiate from there. I would say 9 times out of 10 we use local rental companies. We typically try to make sure they include full insurance.. many say they do, but luckily we haven’t had to use it so no idea what “full” insurance means. Anyway happy to answer any other questions, just let me know! ☺️
