What a beautiful film and tribute! My great and 2nd great-grandparents were from Bolshovtsy and had moved to nearby Voynilov (Wojnilow) also in Ivano-Frankovsk. Fortunately my grandparents left in 1913 for the US. Some other family members left. Anyone who didn't leave was murdered by the Nazis and local collaborators. Thank you for this wonderful work.

My father, Aron Heller, also escaped Bolshovtsy. He went to Stanislawow (Ivano-Frankovsk) and fled to the east the day before the Nazis invaded. He told me everyone was yelling, "jump on the wagon! the Germans are coming!" so he jumped on the wagon. He kept going east all the way to Tajikistan. He was also born in 1922. Maybe they went to high school together.

These stories are so universal. My parents and grandparents escaped from Bessarabia, they got on a train going east. Russians were moving entire factories, equipment, etc. No one was checking ,you just got on one of these trains , that’s it..
But after the war ended when they came back they were forced under the duress of death to leave their homes. We all should make sure israel is strong. Because it’s going to happen again.

I'm from America and I was so proud when Biden announced that Israel had are full support. After the terrorist attacks of oct7. But unfortunately Biden seems to be flip flopping. Im very disappointed that Israel is not made a priority. We let them down once and just turned a blind eye. It's so disgusting and I'm so ashamed! It just gets worse. The u.s agreed along with the shameful UN against Israel to cease fire! I don't understand all this needing permission, votes, opinions, etc. From other countries. From all wars in the past nobody did all this fuss. But now that it's Israel they want to complain or blame Israel. When Hamas started this war. Down to the civilians! They blame Israel but nobody blaming Hamas or their evil intentions. Israel should not have to take no orders or anything when it comes to this war. One day we will be on are knees begging for forgiveness. Protect Israel at all cost. Protect are Jewish brothers and sisters at all cost. 🇮🇱🇺🇲

oy, the shmaltzy ersatz music is so loud, so not very good, it would be so much better if you let us hear the ukrainian peoples voice, e.g. , at 53:06

I agree. The director should learn how to make a documentary. Nonstop music especially at such a high volume ruins the film and makes it difficult for the viewer to concentrate.

It is no consolation but the award to Bandera as "Hero of Ukraine" in 2010 was subsequently annulled in 2011. A few years later someone tried to reinstate it and the Rada voted unanimously against it.

I grew up in Poland in Upper Silesia where many Jews moved from Ukraine (Lvov to be specific) and there was a wonderful community when I was a child until year 1968. Most of Jews had to leave the country so my father left. I stayed behind with my mother. I thought I lost him forever like he lost all his family murdered during Holocaust when he was in the Polish Army and then in German POW camp. I joined him in America after I graduated from college and worked few years. Now America is becoming a dangerous place for Jews even though most American Jews refuse to see it. Is history likely to repeat?

Great movie and great project. Yet I must also strongly disagree with one of the original premises of the movie that you went on a journey “to forgive but not to forget”.
You are no one to forgive. You don’t have that right. The only one that can forgive is the victim. You should not claim this right to yourself.
Having said that, once again, I want to reiterate how much I liked your project!!!

The offspring are victims, too. Their lives have been affected by the trauma, so at least they can forgive for themselves.

Curious - you found Jewish bones on the ground in Bolszovce, did you bring them back to Israel? Is there any attempt to reclaim Jewish property in Ukraine?
