one who can stand in the line with the very best pianists in history, Liszt would certainly be very happy to hear her interpretation of his Hungarian rhapsody

Remember when they told Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven to keep politics out of music?
The world is blessed to have someone who is not only truly gifted musically but also has principles and isn't swayed by bullying tactics of the empire.

Valentina wears red, like the passion she always gives to her performances. The technical perfection is the usual one we know.

Following Valentina in the RUclips for many years. In the beginning I was a bit let down by what I felt to be a small lack of "musicality" in her playing but was amazed by the precision, the intensity, the speed that those enormous and powerful hands and arms could bring out from a piano. Then she matured and reached what this recital shows. A very first class pianist, on par with the very best. Pity so many humans, specially those with status and responsibilities, are so stupid, ignorant and coward. The Canadian orchestra case was typical and her career suffered. But she soldiered on with the help of RUclips and we, lovers of music, should be very grateful to her for not giving up.

I'm so thrilled at seeing an artist here amongst us, and playing - of course - splendidly, when she had been vilified and spat out by the west for refusing to stand up like a denouncing wind-up stooge at a McCarthy Witch Hunt. Where are Anna Netrebko and Valery Gergiev? Wherever they are, the loss is ours. Meanwhile: welcome back, Valentina!

In the comments on acuriousergeorge the matter of music and politics came up, and I commented there that Beethoven was not chided for writing the Eroica, at first dedicated to Napoleon. Etcetera. Just now I saw the interview Valentina Lisitsa recently had on Italian tv: ruclips.net/video/RFA74cMh0Cc/видео.htmlsi=0Ib-CUFhYbxIsT6m. Her story fully confirms my suspicions that the western boycott against her is of the usual undiscriminating stupidity that adheres to western media as soon as the eastern border comes in sight. (I happen to be versed in both journalism and slavonics, as well as in both music and orchestral policies concerning famous soloists to be invited.) The incomparable Valentina speaks as heartfelt as she plays, there is nothing wrong with either her political views or the way she makes use of her exceptional gift for music.

Crazy that Europe won't let her play there because she supports the Ukrainian people in Donbas rather than the Zelensky Ukrainians. She has done many charity concerts in the battered republics. And she is a brilliant pianist. Cyprien Katsaris was right when he said some months ago - music should never be the servant of politics. Music is too important for our spirit, our souls.

Well perhaps she should have refrained from saying who she supports and just got on with playing the piano.

@@adrianwright8685 is it forbidden to say what one thinks about his country? Or only who supports (Z) Elensky is allowed to be free to speak? As long as she doesn't speak in the middle of her shows - why not free speak in society?

@@Evaldas521 Actually there is: I am thinking of all the usa actors that visited (Z) Elensky in other's country, someone even spoke about selling/giving his Oscar statue. I know that 3 years ago (Z) Elensky was a nobody to those same politicing actors. Valentina never messed up with north-american politics, right?
