“I’m bi, actually” “I’m not, like, homophobic! I’m an ally!” “Best platonic bros” “No hanky panky till you’re married!” I think Heartstopper might be the most quotable book series ever
I love these side by side comparisons! You do a very good job editing these, especially with each word appearing and having some different transitions.
I think the dinner scene had to be moved forward from the end of volume 4 to this season, because the theme of this season is Nick coming out and the characters' families. It would have been weird to leave this scene out - when it's the most important one to Nick's character development and journey this season. It's the culmination of all his anxiety and growing confidence. The line: I like who I am, I like my life - is him self-affirming. So satisfying and hopeful for people irl going through a similar experience of self-doubt and anxiety about whether or not to come out.
As much as I love this scene, I would've preferred if it happened chronologically with the books. Think it makes more sense for it to happen after Charlie gets help for his eating disorder. Especially the part when Charlie says "Let me worry about you for a change". I'm fine with the change that Nick actually does get to see his dad in Paris. Just think the dinner should've happened later on
I personally think it works fine. I think they moved up this scene anyway to finish off the "coming out" arc with season 2, and are gonna fully focus on the "eating disorder" arc in season 3. That's why it was changed.
@@gracie-qd5zo Imogen as a character isn't actually in the graphic novels at all! Her entire character and all stories revolving around her (such as her in the girls school and the Nick date etc.) are all completely new to the series itself. :)
Still, she fits in so well. 😊 The screen needed her presence. I guess it's a different medium and without her the adaptation would not appeal so widely beyond the fandom.
@@bogumibogda3299yeah Alice has said that the adaptation needed drama and Imogen added drama in the first season. I remember her talking about why Heartsopper is a webcomic series instead of a novel, and she said because there's no plot to their story. It's just the episodic, day to day lived experiences of this couple and their friends, school and families. So as a screen adaptation, all those dramatic and plot points had to be added. Hence Imogen; the more intense Tao; Ben still being around; plus, of course, the delightful addition of more in depth story for thr side characters.
I really wish they hadn’t moved the time in which the dinner happens, I feel like it makes a bit more sense later on in the series cause we kind of get that buildup of Nick’s dad standing him up over and over and Nick’s actual frustration towards him. I know it’s still basically the same but I would’ve liked to see the parts before this. :/
I just stumbled onto your account and I’m in awe!!! I know these videos have to be so much work! As a lover of the comics (and the show) these are just fantastic!
Oh, thank you very much for your nice comment, and for noticing the work going into this :D Yes, they are a bit time consuming, but as a lover of the comics (and the show) it's like meditation to me!
Wasnt the scene with Charlie nick and his mom outside in the graphic novel as well? As well as nicks goodbye to his dad, I know that the latter one was pretty different in terms of dialogue but I might be fully mixing the two up lol I love these comparisons! I really want to try watching the series while following along with the novels but i feel like that’d b so difficult because of how much the timelines are switched
Ah, you're a connisseaur! :D The Charlie/Nick/mom scene is there, and so is the goodbye dad scene. I did some cuts to not make the video too long, and I kind of regret skipping the scene outside. Preparing for these videoes I watched the entire season while I read the novels at the same time. If it is the first time reading the novels it is kind of hopeless, but if you know the novels it is kind of doable.
@@initialnorway ahh that makes sense ! Didn’t mean to come off as rude or like a correction in any way i was just curious :) I absolutely Love these videos and have been looking for something like them for forever. I’ve been into hesrtstopper since around 2018 but have gonna really fixated since season 2 aired I think reading along will b so fun Im probably gonna try it out myself :D
Can someone tell me why mate is offensive? I saw some movies or tv series that have similar dialogues. Is because their relationship or this word is used for someone you know but not close
It's not offensive, it’s just very platonic (something you’d call a good guy friend). Obviously Nick and Charlie are dating/in a romantic relationship, so it’d feel very weird to call each other “mate” or “pal”.
The callback to "supportive straight friend" was SO good

Thank you for noticing these details. They make the editing a lot more time consuming, but I also think they make the videos better.
Don't get on the wrong side of Tori - She will eat you alive 😂
Yup, too right. When I saw her rip into David, I howled xD

The writers of the show made it SO much better
I’m pretty sure Alice Oseman is the sole writer for the show so you have her to thank for that
I love that you’re doing these comparison videos. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much, I am so happy they are appreciated! A couple more coming up soon :)

OMG THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! I love this sm can you do the Paris dinner scene next? Thanks!!!
I'm so happy that you like it!! If you think about the scene where Imogen dumps Ben, that doesn't exist in the novels :/
Omg lol sorry!,

I read the comic and from what I understand it's just a very straight bro dude word that sport dudes use for each other in England?
@@ccx7004 oh I see. thank you for answering me😀
Tori Stare😂😂
What volume is this from?
Does season two on netflix cover volume 3 and 4?
This is from the end of volume 4. The rest of the season is from volume 3 or not from the novels at all, so the dinner scene is the only vol 4 scene.
@@initialnorway Okay thanks !!!!
