Hey, financial analysis is a broad subject/methodology and I'd consider financial modelling as part of it. As an Analyst in investment banking for example, you'll be doing financial modelling but also other types of financial analysis. In terms of studying, focussing on financial modelling will develop very specific skills whilst focussing on financial analysis will develop a broader skill set. Hope this makes sense!

Studying Acc., you'll gain really good technical knowledge of accounting practices whilst studying finance will allow you to get an understanding of how the finance systems works, along with some finance specific technical knowledge. Naturally, which one to go for is completely dependent on each person and their interests/careers ambitions. Finance is a broader subject than accounting so if I were giving advice to someone who couldn't choose between them, I'd suggest Finance as it keeps more doors open in terms of potential careers, in my opinion. Hey, currently you don't need it necessarily but having those skills are certainly beneficial. As data use continues to become an integral part of organisations, these skills will start to become a requirement. Similar to using Excel.
I'm in the same situation you are in. Literally went to a Uni Open day today in which they have a degree called "Finance and Investment" in which they teach you analytical skills and have their own trading rooms filled with computers you can use to look at the stock market. Hope this helps :)

Hi, which role to apply for is really dependent on your personal interests, in terms of the tasks you want to do on a day to day basis and also what direction you want your career to take. Think about your ideal future role in finance and work backwards to formulate a plan. In terms of how to approach companies, most, if not all, recruiting for the bigger firms is done via their websites. An alternative way to do it is via LinkedIn, through building relationships with employees, either HR individuals or directly with team members. This is a longer route in, given quite a few individuals may not reply - just be prepared for this. In terms of courses, I remember Coursera.org had quite a few good Finance courses. I'd recommend having look through that website first. Hope this helps :-)

Hey, thanks for your comment. I'd focus on two things: i) consider taking free online course on Finance, on platforms such as Coursera. This will help you build up technical knowledge. ii) if time permits, try and get a part time role in Finance. This is likely to be an entry level role but will build valuable experience. Also consider virtual internships if you can spare the time/accommodate it in your schedule. Hope this helps 🙂
Hello, i have 1 question. I did a bachelor in Accounting in Portugal, but they use Continental method, Tax and Accounting have a huge link and i need to know both. Thanks for the comment. You say wall street banks seem appetizing, but which division in a bank is most appealing to you? If it's investment banking, you don't necessarily need a masters in Finance. Work experience, through internships etc, will probably be the best route in. Hope that helps 🙂

I have until March to apply, soo i'm taking my time to see the better option and get ready to do the English exam certification. i want the Master for three reasons, first because is a plus to get a job and climb in the corporation, second because im EU citizen so i dont pay tuition fees in Denmark, and if i have a part time job i can have a scholarship help, third reason is that i would like to learn more about trading, forex, equities, etc.

Hey, the CFA is a very well respected qualification in the Finance world and is meant for those individuals that want to pursue a career largely within Investments, so for example asset management, equity research etc However there are many other individuals that have done the qual. and then gone onto do other things, such as investment banking, PE etc. It covers a wide range of finance topics and overall provides a great foundation for a successful career in Finance. The exams, as you might expect, are really challenging but if you put enough time and effort in preparation, they can be passed. Hope this helps and happy to answer any more questions! 😀

Hey Ashwathi, in terms of financial markets, there are several roles that you can look at including investment banking, sales & trading (part of investment banks), equity research. You also need to build your commercial acumen so make sure your reading financial news articles daily, in conjunction with Google, to improve your knowledge. Hope this helps 😀
Hi Bhargav. Investment banks do sponsor work visas for international students, once they graduate, for certain roles. You will need to check their websites for the specific roles that are open to international applicants. In relation to your second question, investment banking jobs are incredibly challenging to get. To maximise your chance of success, I'd recommend that you look at boutique investment banks, like Lazard and Rotschild, as well as the bulge bracket investment banks. If you are targeting internships at smaller chartered accountancy firms, they may not necessarily advertise these online so I'd suggest that you email them directly instead. On your LinkedIn profile, you want to list out any relevant experience and education/training courses you have done. You can look on Coursera for free courses related to Finance, which could be relevant. Hope this helps 🙂

Hey, the key is getting some work experience, whilst your studying ideally. So this could be during your holidays etc. I'd start by looking at the largest finance firms in your area and checking their websites for opportunities. I'd also have a look on LinkedIn Jobs to see if there are any opportunities. You may not get a FA role right out the gate but if you can get experience in a Finance role, that is something you can build on. Best of luck 👍

What software does a financial analyst use ?
Depends on the role but clearly all the main office software for most if not all analysts. Then you have CapIQ, bloomberg etc which are role specific

Hello Hope you are doing good! I have done B.com Hons from DU (2016 passout) and joined a tourism company (Operations dpt). Now after 5 yrs of work exp, I am planning to migrate to UK for MBA. I am really looking for a change in role and interested in Financial market as I have heard that scope is wide especially in Europe. Could you please drop few courses/roles which I can consider joining in this case?

In terms of courses, Coursera is a good free resource I think you should have a look at. You also need to build your commercial acumen so make sure your reading financial news articles daily, in conjunction with Google, to improve your knowledge. Hope this helps 😀

Hi Bhargav. Investment banks do sponsor work visas for international students, once they graduate, for certain roles. You will need to check their websites for the specific roles that are open to international applicants.
In relation to your second question, investment banking jobs are incredibly challenging to get. To maximise your chance of success, I'd recommend that you look at boutique investment banks, like Lazard and Rotschild, as well as the bulge bracket investment banks.

Hi, you can apply for internships at the larger finance firms online as most of the recruitment is done through that medium. If you are targeting internships at smaller chartered accountancy firms, they may not necessarily advertise these online so I'd suggest that you email them directly instead. Hey, the key is getting some work experience, whilst your studying ideally. So this could be during your holidays etc. I'd start by looking at the largest finance firms in your area and checking their websites for opportunities. I'd also have a look on LinkedIn Jobs to see if there are any opportunities. You may not get a FA role right out the gate but if you can get experience in a Finance role, that is something you can build on. Best of luck 👍
