*The Open Window* By *Saki* 📌Its a story about a 15yr old girl Vera who plays a practical joke on a visitor Nuttel, just like how our friends fool us on April 1. 📌Setting: Drawing room of upper class village house. 📌 *Nuttel* has a nervous problem living a urban life style in city. His sister suggests to go to a village, where he can visit people by giving them a letter of introduction written by his sister. 📌He visits *Mrs Sappleton*'s house. He meets *Vera* who is a self possessed girl(confident, clever, has an attitude and knows what she is talking). 📌Vera entertains Nuttel by telling a cooked up story at the moment. 📌Vera's story to Nuttel: About a French window that remains open during the month of october when winter is setting in. Mrs. Sappelton keeps it open as she is waiting for her husband, 2 brothers and the dog who went for hunting past few years and are dead now. 📌Mrs Sappelton meets Nuttel, and apologises for keeping the window open as she is waiting for her husband, 2 bros n the dog to return from hunting and keeps the front door shut so as to prevent the dust and dirt. 📌Nuttel is frightened with the way Mrs.Sappelton talks and tries to avoid talking more about it by talking about his illness which is given less attention by Mrs.Sappelton. 📌Suddenly Mrs.Sappeltom exclaims about her family's arrival by looking at the window. 📌Nuttel is frightened by thinking those as the ghosts and runs like mad, hitting the cyclist and hides himself in the bush. 📌Mrs. Sappelton wonders why the man behaved in such a mad way and Vera cooks up another story. 📌Vera's Cooked up story to Mrs.Sappelton and family: Nuttel is afraid of dogs as he was once chased by a pack of dogs and he fell in a freshly dug grave. 📌The Open Window is a humorous story but with an ironical ending.
