    I think I was that person who asked haha!!!!! I am in process of replacing door handles on a utility truck and in order to remove the handles and locks, I seen these damn pop rivets. Jason, this video could not have came at a better time! Thank you for addressing this as this was the first encounter I have had with pop rivets. Thanks so much

    Thanks for the explanation and demonstration! I didn't really understand the different depths and heads before.

    Another winning video. I haven't used rivets yet as a newbie locksmith, but I can see how it would be valuable, especially for metal doors like you mentioned. I love how you started with the basics, explained everything thoroughly (since a lot of people don't know the first thing about rivets) and then demoed installing and removing. Great video all around. Thank you Jason!

    I just picked up this Doyle riveter to install mud guards on my Jeep. Looks like I chose the right one. Thanks for the video.

    Hi Jason.
    Hi Frank good to see you Frank.
    Thanks for doing this video, the new riveter is definitely going to be mucho morer useful for you. The countersunk rivet's will definitely be great for a tight fitting door.
    Thanks again for taking the time to do this video.
    Now there's more things on my tool wishlist.
    I just realized that you usually have your baby Knipex in your pocket,so you will have a tool ready to change the tip. Or your Leatherman 300 supertool.

    You could use that big gun for Ford door handle rivets.

    • @thewhittierlocksmith121
      @thewhittierlocksmith121 2 года назад

      My exact situation. I have a customer requesting new locks and handles on their ford utility truck, I was advised I could pick the retainer wafer to remove core, but the customer wants handles too. I looked and damn pop rivets…first time I seen them, or noticed them. I’m used to seeing solid head rivets like those breakaway security screws on Nissan and Hondas

    • @selock
      @selock  2 года назад +1

      Is there something wrong with the handles? If not, always remember the customer "isn't always right" and if there is nothing wrong with the handles then he just gets a new key.

    • @thewhittierlocksmith121
      @thewhittierlocksmith121 2 года назад

      @@selock the truck was broken into and stolen. When the truck was recovered, the locks were all busted out. He just feels insecure about the locks and handles in general. They are a Trimark product. But ill talk him into just replacing the locks because the handles seem fine to me

    Thanks for the great video, Jason.
    I had a steel door on which a rivet gun would have come in handy…
    …if I had one. Oh well, to Harbor Freight I go.

    The Doyle tool looks pretty good. I used 1/8" pop rivet brand, black, counter sunk for Neutrik chassis mount, XLR microphone connectors, thus matching the black connectors. Not sure of rivets can also be had in brass anodize finish for the "discriminating" locksmith customer in special applications (whatever that may be?)

  • @Ghost_Os
    @Ghost_Os Год назад

    Going to have to pick up the Doyle. My number one complaint about the other type is that about 30% of the time, I manage to bite my fingers in the tool when it "pops". Doesn't look like that would happen with the Doyle, and I like the little collection bottle.
    Speaking of, I keep those little things; if I find the rivet I have is too long, I take the pin thing out, stick an old one in for support, and then cut it to size with some diagonal cutters. Dremel & cut off wheel obviously works too, but I find the cutters are faster, and so far no issues with deformation causing any problems. YMMV.

    Excellent video Jason. Oh I would pull your chain and say don’t you wanna make tabs from metal doors that’s how we’ve had to do it for years right. 😂😂😂
    I am just teasing the easier way is always the best whatever works easiest grandpa always said work smarter not harder.
    So you always have to keep that in mind.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 года назад

      I hate "tabbing" doors :) I only do it now if the existing ones are broken off or rusted too badly but even then still hate doing it and use pop rivets to fasten them most of anyway ;)

  • @LockSportsman
    @LockSportsman 2 года назад

    I just started using rivnuts, and they’re pretty great in situations where the backer metal isn’t thick enough to thread but you need a removable fastener.

    • @selock
      @selock  2 года назад +1

      I mostly just use them for the typical use's of mounting maglocks, but I rarely do that anymore cause I hate maglocks :) Actually have to do one soon so I'll be seeing how this HF version works

    Very Riveting video 😂😂😂
    Nice visit with L'll Frank with his ball (???) After watching I checked Princess Auto, but they don't have the Doyle unit. They have a similar 13" one for $70 CAD ($54 USD) with 4 sizes 1/8" to 1/4#. I have a few of the other handheld units that work for the amount I do, can't really justify $70 unless I win the lotto (or put it on my Christmas list for kids 😂)

      Sorry! I put my comment on before you said about the Milwaukee. The reason I bought it was for uk window repairs working on my own I’d struggle to hold the window and use the river tool at the same time

    Great review. Could you cut down a longer rivet (the outer portion) in a pinch to make it a shorter rivet? Then, just make sure you always have long ones and you are covered.

    Thanks for the video I will be getting the 13”Astro 1423 which is $27 and is what the Harbor Freight version is copying except they’re getting too expensive for me. I liked the demo of why I don’t want the $5 riveter although for the price it has its place ……thanks!

    • @selock
      @selock  Год назад

      I still use my $5 more than the new one, especially for just one lock repairs (couple of rivets) :) When it breaks I'll probably go get another again. When I know I'll be doing more than 1-2 I reach for the bigger one.

    Wow your rivet holes are huge compared to your rivets, I use numbered drills and it gives me a press fit, the rivet has to be pushed into the rivet hole with pressure. Even without setting the rivet the two pieces of material I am joining cannot move at all.

    SE, What type of Revit will give me a "flush" end on the back side?

    • @selock
      @selock  Год назад

      None. Sounds like you will need to drill and tap with the correct length of screw. If the material is too thin for that you might be out of luck, nothing I know of would be flush

  • @MisoJuice

    Stupid question. If have 2 prices of aluminum one is 1/8” and one is 1/16” and I’m riveting these together with 3/16 rivets, what length do I need?

    • @selock
      @selock  4 месяца назад +1

      You would need a 6-4 off this chart www.albanycountyfasteners.com/v/Rivet%20Size%20Chart.pdf
