I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told people on a NYC bus, “If you don’t ring the bell the bus doesn’t stop!”. It’s very simple bus knowledge that people don’t seem to have learned. Some raging maniac punches a driver because HE doesn’t want to walk back 4 blocks! Horrible

The busses in the UK have enclosed cabins for the drivers. I know it would take awhile to implement here, but, maybe just starting to retrofit some would help.
They have them in new york. But they havent retrofitted all the buses yet.

This is what happens when no one is held accountable.
Unfortunately, those who drive busses, streetcars, subway trains, etc. today, need to be better isolated from the general public, which has just enough crazies to cause this type of chaos. So, this becomes a matter modern safety design, re-engineering and/or retrofit, including CCTV cameras and GPS panic buttons for priority police response. JUST SAYING...

Excuse me? I’m so SICK of calls to punish entire communities for the actions of a handful of individuals. WE ALL are suffering from the presence of these criminals and we want them gone but they keep getting arrested and released back into the community and it makes ZERO SENSE TO US WHY. I work in health care and ride the bus (or used to but stopped cause of crime) with many other nurses and hospital workers and other people in the service industry. We all just want to get to work on time and get home on time. If you cut the bus line to those communities, good luck filling all those positions that they fill coming into the city from the boroughs. That’s where 90% of the people who serve you live smart ass….you don’t earn the salary you earn serving others and take anything but the bus/train.

Most people know. Transit workers are not allowed to defend themselves... The authority worried about getting sued... Care more about the money, than the workers...
The reason why these people get the shit knocked out of them is because these bus drivers are culturally the same as the people who assault. So what happens is in this culture to back down and diffuse is not a value, but escalation is. At that point the rule of the jungle kicks-in and someone going to get laud the f out. The bus drivers are not professional drivers. If they were, they would keep their mouth closed. But thats not culturally recognized. See if you can train them to be quiet. Diffusion is the key. Not locking horns; it always take two to tango. Stay seated and drive.

NYPD takes these incidents as a joke. A cop spoke to me years ago and made light of incidents that happen to NYCTA employees. At the end of the day nobody cares except the employees themselves, that's why you have to be. on ten toes and self sufficient, do not rely on passengers or the NYPD to help you. Do what you have to do in accordance with the law and transits policies , make sure you get home.

I don't condone violence of any kind.I'm sorry that these MTA employees were attacked and I wish them a full recovery,but a lot of MTA employees are EXTREMELY RUDE!!! I'm speaking about all of them-booth agents,conductors,bus drivers,station cleaners etc.I've had instances where I would simply have a question or I would inform them about an issue concerning the Metrocard machines and I've gotten very rude responses.There's always two sides to every story.MTA employees are performing a public service and when they're rude to someone,they don't know how that person is going to respond.I reiterate,I don't condone violence,but don't cry victim when they very well may have initiated the situation.

I agree. Some employees are rude. I have also seen these bus drivers verbally harassed beyond belief to the point where i couldnt believe the driver's self control.
