LYRICS
Out at the train tracks
I dream of escape
But a song comes onto my iPod
And I realize it's getting late
And I can't take the staring
And the sympathy
And I don't like the questions "How do you feel?"
"How's it going in school?"
And "Do you wanna talk about it?"
Way out
Way out of here
Fade out
Fade out, vanish
And I'm trying to forget you
And I know that I will
In a thousand years, or maybe a week
Burn all your pictures, and cut out your face
The shutters are down and the curtains are closed
And I've covered my tracks
Disposed of the car
Trying to forget even your name and the way that you look
When you're sleeping
Dreaming of this
Way out
Way out of here
Fade out
Fade out, vanish - Видеоклипы
The story behind the video
The video is dedicated to Arielle Daniel, a girl who was killed by a train in November 12, 2005, at the age of seventeen, together with a friend of her, Heather Bates, who was fourteen years old. Arielle was a big Porcupine Tree fan who founded the band’s MySpace Group. The accident occurred when the girls were taking photos on the rails. Both were from Oak Creek, Wisconsin. During a show at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in June 2, 2007, her family were present among the audience, so Steven Wilson paid tribute to them, saying “This is for Arielle” just before the band played “Blackest Eyes” which was her favourite song. That night, “Way Out of Here” was performed without showing the video on the screen. The girl in the video, has gotten positive feedback both from Arielle Daniels father, and from her friends, who thanked her, and said she did a good job.
+Marwa Haroun That is so sad. I played with Trains when I was younger. God Bless Her and her Family.
+Marwa Haroun now that i know that story , the video seems a lot different
Holy shit that story is fuckin heartbreaking.
Yeah, I wrote that paragraph on the wikipedia article. I was a member of her MySpace Group, so sad. BTW, the girl in the video is Sabrina Mortensen, a close friend of the director, Lasse Hoile. Her portrayal of Arielle was very well received among the fans. She's also the girl with the bird head in Steven Wilson's "Harmony Korine" video.
I remember hearing about that on the news back then. Didn't know it was about this. Music... Evoke the human soul through sound.
RIP Arielle Daniel, my friend, my hero. This song was written for her. There was so much more to her than the public will ever known. She wasn't "some suicidal little goth chick." ... She had so many plans in life, and they were taken from her. When all she was trying to do was help out a friend in need. I'll always remember you for the right reasons, ElleirA.
I miss her so so much💔💔💔
And yes everyone who really knew her knows it was not suicide
Everything about this song is awesome.
Janela dos gados
kkkkk ?
Except the video
Janela da Rua proguista é isso mesmo?
This song never fails to make me tear up when I think of why they wrote it and who they wrote it for. It's really something that they care enough to write something so haunting for that young fan (and her friend if I remember right).
Correction: the video is dedicated to her. The song was written before the incident I believe.
Dolorosakil A fan who was the Band's Myspace administrator commited suicide
There's just some correlation between PT and trains
+Michael Edwards steven wilson talks about that in his documentary "insurgentes", you should watch it if you haven't.
A for Anyone Ok, I'll look for it.
Me and one of my friends call trains "Steven Wilsons" now lol
ThePolarBearProductions I too have one friend who listens to Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson with me, but that's mainly bc I showed him them. He learned "Trains" on guitar in about 10 minutes a couple days ago.
Yeah true ! I happen to love both.
The chorus is so simple yet so powerful. I don't know how PT do it; but every song is unique in its composition and inspirational. PT's musical heart is still alive and well, no doubt
Steven Wilson is a genius. Porcupine Tree picked up where Pink Floyd left off....
Quite right Especially after the last album. Let's just hope gilmores new album is as good as his previous solo works..
This is the best youtube comment I've seen in a very long time! As I am a true Pink Floyd fan I have found myself completely in love for Porcupine Tree!
Helen Jamison *with
It's a very fair comparison, relax lol.
I love the keyboard sound in the chorus. It sounds very spacial and surreal.
Porcupine Tree is literally, for me, an escape from reality! In a really amazing way! Thank you PT!
Opeth is one of my favorite bands, same with PT. I don't understand how people don't enjoy their music. I LOVE, absolutely LOVE, progressive music. The sound, and how long the songs are, is amazing.
I met a wonderful girl today, played her Porcupine Tree and she loved it! Thank you for the music ❤️❤️
This album is just art.
They were able to express all the inherent apathy that we all carry along our lifes and all that it burns inside...
Listening the song is.. I don't know, having the feeling I'm talking about, you know what I mean...
When you´re gonna push the play button, you're about to witness an incredible song, with an incredible video, with an incredible story. By an incredible band!
And the girl is perfectly casted for the role. This is very close to perfection...

remember seeing this video when i was like 14, and it just completely blew my mind and changed my perspective on music and life, FOREVER! Just such a surreal eeriness from this track. It literally paints a picture for you in your head.
It paints a picture of an actual real girl as you may know.
ghoawaynetcabo For sure man! Hey, if you get a spare five minutes can you please listen to my band on youtube? Search 'The Cavaliers- Rooftops' ;D
we need this album in spotify
Stop paying this shit bro, use yt music... we have everything from yt on yt music but with a loot more configurations, lyrics, etc...
Imo the anesthesize live version of the album is on Spotify and it's better quality
Spotify does have anesthetize live which is technically the same thing as fear of a blank planet
it's back!!!!
The incident is on Spotify to
Steven Wilson is one of the most talented musician of the world. He composed almost all of Porcupine Tree's songs. He actually started experimenting with music at the age of 12. Being forced to learn guitar, he had learned it at the age of 11. That guy is a genius.
great tribute from Porcupine to this girl,
RIP Arielle.
You can make anything of this song: a failed relationship, a parent that died, a friend that double-crossed you... I get emotionally touched by listening to this, even though I am not in any of this situation. That makes it to me a very good song!
Goosebumps, hairs on end. Deep thoughts, and feelings. Porcupine is some emotional thought provoking music to say the least.
God! what the hell is that thing which brings me here over and over and over AGAIN! ...!
its called " way out of here " yet i always .. ALWAYS COME HERE!
Never seen the music video before. It's so weird to hear bits and pieces of the song mashed into half the time of the album version, some of the best parts are missing!
her eyes, this song, i love all in this video
ay pero que cancion tan triste y bonita
Rest in peace Dearest Arielle Daniel
May peace be upon your precious soul forever ❤️
Ahh, it is ever so refreshing to hear such wondrous music as this. This generation has music solely for simple interpretation. I love the actual feeling that this song and others of its nature put out. I do hope that future generations can recreate this sound in their image.
Exhilarating. The most brilliant guitar accompaniment I've ever heard in prog rock \m/
Absolutely incredible song. Porcupine Tree are consistently amazing, and they just keep getting better.
The music of my generation is either rap or hardcore. No one ever appreciates true musical prowess, they want simple music with simple lyrics so they don't have to think. Porcupine Tree has shown me there is some hope for future music, and for that, I thank them.
It'd be nice Roadrunner re uploaded this at 1444 or 1080p. It's such an amazing & timeless video, as is pretty much all of Lasse Hoile's visual works that were done for Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson. 240p just doesn't do it justice.
This song takes be back to december 2007. I was on a weekend leave from the army, and after driving a few hours we parked our car behind Pakkahuone, Tampere. The split second when I opened the door of the car and suddenly this song is blasting out of the backstage door (soundcheck) was truly one of the most amazing moments of my life.
They were great in Melbourne 7/02/10. Absolutely fantastic. This song was definitely the highlight, along with the full 17 minutes of Anesthetize. WOW.
I saw this video at their concert last month. Scared the shit out of me, because that girl looks just like somehow I deeply care about who also used to be very depressed. It was very uncomfortable to watch, but still so very beautiful.
I guess that's what Art is all about, eh? It's beautiful no matter what it does to you. :)
Porcupine Tree's music describes the way I feel better than I can myself. It is therefore a perfect outlet for my feelings and emotions. I thank every member for their contributions to the music world.
i am rapidly considering porcupine tree to be my favourite band...which is scary, because i listen to all sorts of music, and i dont have a favourite band, and never have done. but with porcupine tree constantly writing brilliant music such as this, this point simply cant continue:D utterly magnificent from start to finish:D
Oh man... I feel it in my stumach. over and over again..this goes so deep...
one of the best song compositions ive heard in years....this song blew me away...
It is nearly my story.
The difference is I am alive, I had a walkman not an ipod, I never had an access to fast trains like that ones on the clip.
I am crying watching this clip.
I was listening P.T. a lot when I was teenager.
Thx for your music.
Brasileira aqui... Amo esse som
É nois 🤘
Tmj
I don't care who says what...this band is nothing short of genius! each album brings something new to the table and ALL never fail to surprise. Just the right amount of complexity without the pretension...LOVE them and they put on a good show to boot!
There's music you listen to to have fun, dance whatever. Then there's music that elevates the spirit, gives you a peek at the backstage of life, the symbols and archetypes that are hints of the unseen realities that create the world we "experience".
it's amazing to think of how many people can relate to this song. it's captivating and meaningful, the type of music which actually speaks out to people..
2007, that was quite an impressive year to me.
Not only that I've met the love of my life, but I also met one of my favorite bands until today: Porcupine Tree.
I remember how we discovered this music video way before RUclips was this popular on a German music magazine's DVD called 'Rock Hard.'
Good times, worthy company, and quality music.
What more can one ask for?
What a great song.
I´ve been following them for quite a long time and they always shock me musically and conceptually. I never get tired of them. Great band. Larga vida a PT.
Well I have seen them 8 times now and I can´t get enough. Porcupine Tree is one of the bands that sounds live like on CD.
great modern rock band
I like the old stuff, but once Gavin joined the band that's when I really started to get into them...my favorite drummer for sure!
I don't know but I did see them play this whole album live and they had similar videos of all of the songs playing on a screen behind the band.
Steve brings out the subconscious beats playing in your mind.
someone just recently got me into this band and i cant thank them enough they are so amazing this music is so great
ive heard the song a few times before i was on the concert. but it only blew me away when i saw it in combination of a great live performance, loudness and the video. it was really impressive and when i see the video now the same feelings come up again. i think the music fits ver well.
everyday i wake up and thank my lucky stars, i thank everything and everyone that has contributed to what and who i am today, not a drone of commercialism and consumerism, not a cardboard cut out of what i should/must be. not everyone has had the good fortune of developing his own personality. if i didnt like this music and listened to pop music all day, i would be missing out on so much and would never have realized. thank you porcupine tree your music speaks to people.
this is the first time i have ever heard these guys. my buddy recommended them to me. i will have to thank him next time i see him.
Music video directed by Danish artist, photographer and film-maker Lasse Hoile. First time I noticed his name was in Steve Wilson's side-project Blackfield's music video for the eponymous track which he directed. The video was shot to my knowledge in Copenhagen and the first time I saw it was when I saw Porcupine Tree live in Copenhagen during their "Fear of a Blank Planet" tour. From what I've heard Lasse was in the audience. Anathema was the support which is mostly why I attended the show, but Porcupine Tree wowed me. Previously I only knew about Wilson's Blackfield and producing an Opeth album.
No excuses for not seeing this LIVE!
I have cried during this song at all the five gigs I have been to. The longer version of the song gives the incredible hypnotic melancholy which grows towards the chorus exploding both musically and visually. Great great great stuff! I would like to see the live act next.
The one and only problem of this video is that my favorite best second instrumental part (bass, drums and percussion) is cut out completely. It's a great pity...
Amo este tema.
Es mi favorito de porcupine tree, me relaja de gran manera
This one tears me up every time.....
i watched this when i was high and it was life changing......most emotional song and video in the world
But in all seriousness, I hate these shortened and condensed versions of the songs. The version on the album is much better
+Michael Edwards Why they took out the drum solo is beyond me.
Blazin Blitzer And what they did to "Strip the Soul" was absolutely sinful. I let it slide bc the video was awesome, but they took out the best half song of the song
@@sidewayssky17 it's hard to sell songs longer than 4 or 5 minutes, commercially that's just how it is nowadays. That's why bands like Dream Theater will hardly ever make it onto mainstream
You have a point, but to me this version is a loot more harder because its more 'directly'. The original is more prog and deeper.
@@felphero Speaking of Dream Theater, there’s that Constant Motion video that died to a thousand cuts. You have to wonder who the target audience of these shortened versions is. They’re just selling themselves short. If I discovered them through this kind of songotomy, I wouldn’t have looked into them to find the goldmine they really are. (PT in particular. They haven’t succumbed to the loudness war entirely to boot. What happened to basic listenability in this age?)
Haha yeah I was there for that too, they played a cracking good set that night, got a lot of my favourites in there. I loved the part where John Wesley walked off stage for one of the songs and had to rush back on when he realised he was meant to be singing backing!
How strange! I clearly remember walking on the train platform in Aalst (Belgium), listening to this song. I was really overwhelmed by it, and I must have subconsciously felt that the song had something to do with trains... Really weird.
(I was waiting for my bandmates, we were going to Gent (The Kinky Star) because we had a band meeting with Sanne.)
_Well, the song says "Out at the train tracks, I dream of escape" so... xD
Ah thankies for letting me know!
Shall purchase!
hey vins, I just went to burning shed and this is that they say about the DVD-A: a special Blank Planet Introduction short film, the uncensored version of the Fear of a Blank Planet promo video, and the full length 17 minute film for Anesthetize as seen during the band's live shows. No mention of "Way Out". Post here if you find out otherwise when you get the DVD-A, okay :)
Great concert in Oporto...i was really overwhelmed....
If Porcupine Tree have been around for 20 years, how come I hadn't heard of them since a couple of months ago? Their absolutely AMAZING!
I'm pretty sure this video and was made for their live performances. They had one for every song off this album playing on a projector screen behind the band.
first time seeing them live on Sat in toronto- AMAZING!!!!
God, they're so good, my favorite band, and this song from my favorite album. But they NEED to come to Colorado!!!!!!!!!!!
huge fan of Opeth here, and ive never really listened to this band, but this song...moves me :)...anyone have suggestions on albums to pick up?
I was there too, drove from Adelaide to see them. Anesthetize was insane!!!!
I love this song so much. It's so heartwrenching.
the video is brilliant and does add a lot to the song, but at the same time i cant stand shortened edits of songs.
lol... i didnt realise that.... i've only heard the cut version.... just heard the normal version yesterday cause i just bought 'Fear of a blank planet' ..... Fantastic listen.......
Every time I start looking around I come across another Gem!
Thanks Steven
OMG...This song is soul shattering...and Simply amazing!!!
This band has a future, love this song. Keep it up, I think this is one of the best bands I've listened to in a long time.
Porcupine Tree é a salvação desses grupos que surgiram nos ultimos anos!!!
Muito bom!
I love the way P.T. suddenly explode just when you think they're going thru the motions. Stunning tune, great guitar work, super vid & yes, as dandog77 said, that girl is so beautiful!
One of the best songs from Porcupine Tree!!
This cuts right through my soul. Just brilliant.
Great concert at Oporto... i was really overwhelmed...
Song is so good that even the short version is awesome
I'll be glad when these guys come near Kansas City.
you should dive into their work. now that i know all albums i know how they changed and how they improved. their older stuff has got alot of feeling. if you like fear of a blank planet you have to get their ep nil recurring, its my favorite atm
Beautiful....
yeahhhh all nos vemos
When I saw them in Florida, I thought that Anesthetize was the best performance I've personally seen from any band.
Found out about these guys about 3 minutes ago, maybe four or five, thanks to a forum. I'm pretty happy with 'em so far. Any ideas for me to get more interested?
Saw them live in Las Vegas this Saturday! They were amazing! :D
@Nazuiko I would start with In Absentia or Deadwing (they were given to me at first) but what really turned me onto PT was going to a live show...definitely helped with the love I now harbour for 'em :)
Amazing band! Saw them live a few months ago. Best gig ever! :)
to all people who visited a porcupine tree concert during the last months: i´m sure you had the video screen presentation, too, could you perhaps tell me which song had the
"water-things" (waves, rain etc.) on the screen? thank you!
p.s. porcupine tree is great!!!
Amazing emotive and melancholy piece of brilliance this song!

greatest prog rock band there is. And true musicianship
Man I can't get enough of this song!
One of the best songs in the world.
