Someone gave me some those HF mini planes. The iron was horrible, but I made a new iron out of proper tool steel and have been surprised by how useful that little plane has been.
And I would go with silver inlay spiral around the toothpick!
oh I like that idea!
Awesome ..
I finally got over here for the "how to"
Well done, Sir!
Thanks man glad to have you here.
I have a box of old piano keys from a piano that I found in my grandparent's basement. I keep thinking of what I could do with the ivory, but never once thought the ebony!
I know a lot of plane makers love them for infills and details!
You should probably build a better mini plane. You know those Ibex violin makers planes, double bevel. A small (or large) amount of brass filing. Looks like it is wood filled. And congratulations, getting two videos out of a toothpick build is really milking it!! thanks!
that would make a fun video!
what if need to make it by Matchsticks after used adn group of Matchsticks not one by one ?
In an old Simpson's video game the moto of the "Burn's lumber co." Turning the Rain Forrest into tooth picks, one log at a time.
Really???
LOL yup!
Diamonds are hopelessly vulgar. Fire Opals would be a better choice.
Oh i like the way you think!
The quarantine drives you crazy does it? :-) Nevertheless, this a simple but crazy expensive tooth pick :-)
You should make a mini shadowbox for it lol
Lol now that would be fun.
Amazing amd funny video!!!
Old Piano Keys are an excellent source for ebony. Check on craig's list, most of the time the pianos are free for the hauling. Take 'em apart and scrap the parts you have no use for.
right on. I have a friend that does that as a side gig.
When I read the title of this video, i expected it to be turned on your foot-powered treadle lathe. Now you can start a tooth pick collection with each pick made from a different species. Seriously, it looked like a fun project. I'm not sure my fingers have enough dexterity left to handle one of those small planes without drawing some blood.
LOL yup blood is a required sacrifice for this one!
Gave me a chuckle first thing in the morning.
With all that's going on, that is very valuable.
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. Luke and I had a blast putting this one together. I think it came out at the right time!
Will you be making a $600 beard comb in the future?
now there is a good Idea!
I really wanta see the diamond inlay🤣
LOL I should do that next year!
Buwahahaha
I have too many concerns to list here.😂🤣
LOL you and me both!
For 15 bucks I bought a #4 and block plane combo at harbor freight. Filed the mouth open a bit and made the #4 into a fore plane. The block plane was basically useless but I've still got it just in case. I would not recommend that #4 as a smoother like they call it. Its genuinely bad and can only do rough work, just an fyi
so true. it is a boat anchor!
Love it!
Thanks!!
Awesome work James! 😁👍🏻👊🏻
I was thinking Gold Leaf stripping ! Just saying 😀
oh now there is an idea!
James as the king of Dad jokes you could have added some beads of sweat to your forehead at 2:01 and 2:36 plus at 2:26 should have called it a timber. Yes, I’m pretty “board” at the moment. 😃
LOL sounds like fun to me!
Weird I agree with but good you're doing something. Keep on smiling.
thanks man! more fun to come!
Not to “pick” on you but you could have used power tools for this delicate toothy project. 🤪
that would be a fun shot of running this through a table saw!
@@WoodByWright Oh no, Where'd it go?!?
