"No Doubt About It" A local CB Buddy of mine just bought one of these units & using this vid of yours I helped him get his dialed in just right over the air. Your videos are Priceless 73s💙
I always hear your station in DX, man this video doesn’t even do your equipment justice. You sound just like a FM broadcast station, keep up the great videos.
Your the boss, anyhow I’m a newbie I’m using 966 with the stock mic. Would your settings be useful to me in setting up my unit, please advise if you got time. Thank you Jimmyludd
NICE👍👍 What you said about changing the sound of a stock hand mic with this device really struck me as all of my radios have them. This last year my quest for "Sound Quality" & Studio Quality modulation has been a learning experience with a analog 6ch mixer board. This would be a great plug & play device to use on all my equipment. Excellent Review👍👍 Thanks!
Hey Miguel, thanks for your comment. For years I was all into amplifiers(RF), and having some decent power was always one of my main priorities as well as low reflect and low standing wave ratio. Now a days as technology progresses the CB and Ham world just keeps getting better especially in audio processing devices such as in this video. So just like you brother for the last few years I have really prided myself in Hifi modulation, or anything that’s a step up from the common CB mic. 73
I run an old Yeasu MD-1 desk mic with mine and the audio sounds great, I ordered another one this week. The only draw back is waiting 2mnths for delivery, but it's worth it. I DIG YOUR VIDEOS BROTHER..CHEERS!!
May be a stupid question but is there any reason to run a mixer board with this ? I’ve got 8 band eq an a mixing board not sure if I would even need to run a mixing board with the EQ. I jst ordered the Digital EQ your demonstrating . I’m thinkin if I run mixer with it all I wld gane is effects ? Am I correct? By the way appreciate the videos man soundin good
Well, the mixer adds more fine tuning capabilities, but the key is having a digital processor for your vocals, this really brings out a lot of clarity that analog equipment seem to lack. The mixer is not needed nor is the digital processor, but the V7 EQ does has its own limitations. I just love it because it’s very easy to connect pro studio equipment with CB radio without a bunch of holes being drilled in the radio for direct injection. 73👋🏻
You convinced me to pull the trigger. I ordered the V7 w/ phantom ps for my 655hp. Plan on either using my Lewitt 440 condenser or Sennheiser 935 dynamic w/ cloud lifter (if needed). Question: Do you still need to remove the mic element when using as a ptt switch, even though the input is set for xlr mic? Thanks. 73's
You have to remove the mic element like I talked about in the video or the homemade PTT will also pick up audio. Currently I have a foot pedal PTT, I did away with the homemade mic PTT. 73
Hi Ground control! This is a great video, I just picked up a Heil 781 studio mic. But it looks like I might need some additional mic gain. The Heil is custom wired for a Galaxy 2517, Any suggestions! Thanks
The Heil PR 781, is a dynamic microphone. With the EQ and compressor you don’t need additional gain. Generally, set your radio gain at the 9 or 10:00 position. Then start adjusting the EQ and Compressor. Monitor your audio and set it accordingly. I use the Heil 781, with Galaxy 2517 and I get great audio reports. Good Luck
Which version in your opinion sounds better? Does both versions that you have experience with sound the same? My d104s sit on the shelf too...good EQ is the secret to sound.
Intresting video for sure. I've had the version 6 for a couple of years with good results. I'm currently using a Zingyou BM-800 mic with a Neewer 48V. If you can't get a studio mic at first and you have a non amplified D104 it'll work pretty good. Do not use an amplified mic!
The XLR cable goes directly into the back of the EQ, in the beginning of the video I show how to enable 48v phantom power as well. You could always use a non phantom condenser mic but they do not sound as good as phantom powered. 73

Was curious about the usb power supply you got there, looks like the entire unit is a wallwart,is this correct? What’s the brand, make and model of it? I need to drop you an email,i recent came in to a couple 3 radios I want to get checked out before i decide what do to do with them. Between your review of this eq and a couple others in sold on it. Diggin it. Great info and presentation. Thanks for all the great info you provide. I'm new to this but very interested in this part specifically. With all the talk about amps and/or power mic and such, I had this exact same idea. Why not just get a good radio, and basically filter an adjustable preamp? I don’t recommend using a CB power mic with the V7 equalizer, the V7 has its own mic preamp/ compressor / noisgate and so forth. So, with that being said just hooking up a stock mic to all of these features will make the stock mic sound better than any “CB power mic.” Now to answer your question, the phantom power is for condenser studios microphones which require 48 volts to operate so no you do not need this just to run an ordinary CB microphone. 73👋🏻
Never had any problems of the sort, but issues like this are due to cheap coax, cheap mic cords and anything else that is cheap within the system. Also, never stack radios, power supplies or any other equipment that’s used in the system, and make sure the entire station is grounded properly. Mix 43 ferrites should be incorporated as on coax lines, mic lines and so forth. 73👋🏻
My V7 has the 48v power converter built in sir, this is an option when buying the product to either have it 48v phantom powered or not. If you bought the V7 EQ without phantom power you will need to add a stand-alone power supply specifically for the microphone.
