One of the best of all-time....Her poor position on the last turn and to just blow by them all to win yet again. A great race and a legend of a horse. Love you girl!!!
This is by far the best Zenyatta video for her fans. She is a gorgeous horse and it is obvious that this horse is beloved and spoiled, well cared for and not put in danger of injuries just to win money for her owners. A lot of us don't just look at her record, we just love this big beautiful horse. Lov to see her struttin her stuff! Venckman said it right.
Look at her!! she is beautiful!!! i love how she has her ears forward as she runs!! she reminds me of Barbaro!!! RIP Barbaro!!I hope her legs are thick and strong so she'll never fall and hurt that beautiful spirit of hers!
I may get to witness her run in the Breeders' Cup this year. It'd be no less and a heavenly blessing to see this mare in person, even from a distance. She's a once of a kind, that's for sure.
Absolutely amazing filly, she has already more than ebeded her place in the history books. She has rightfully been placed next to such famous fillies as Ruffian. The spirit she holds will never fade.
I am grateful to be able to enjoy Zenyatta after the tragedies with Barbaro, Ruffian and Eight Belles. It is good to see a horse well treated and the fans energy plays a role in her wins. She feels the love! So nice to see a good ending to her career.
Zenyatta is just the most precious horse ever with that dancing, and then to watch her make that charge coming out of the turn and then the tongue wagging when it’s all over, love her as if she were one of my own!!! Long live the Queen!!!!!
I'm so glad there was all this pomp over the race. CAN SHE DO IT? love it all- makes watching later even more fun- its like a movie with a wonderful ending!
To me, that one loss displayed her greatness more than many of her wins did. The way that race unfolded for her was so unfortunate, yet she still battled back and was a mere step away from passing. No horse but Zenyatta would have come that close in that situation. There's no doubt for me she was the best horse in that race despite not winning it. And like others have said in defense, the best horses of all time have all lost at least once. It happens.
she is a legand and she have funny dance moves:) i love that horse so much i come from holland and everbody loves that horse in holland i'm sure zenyatta is a beautiful horse and a queen i love zenyatta, barbaro, curlin, ruffian, big brown
Blame was lucky, and his connections know it! Loved Garrett Gomez standing in his saddle and saluting Zenyatta twice! What class! Blame's trainer was humble and acknowledged they were lucky. Only the ignominious Seth Hancock blundered and missed an historic opportunity to continue the time-honored tradition of his grandfather and his father, the great Bull Hancock. Even Zenyatta's critics acknowledge what she did on the track that day was one of the greatest performances ever!
Hey, I see me in the sequence where she's walking out of the tunnel! Now I can add "as seen on TV" every time I sign my name to something. That was the most remarkable race I've ever seen. And I don't think I've ever heard noise like that from a crowd either. I get goosebumps thinking back on it.
Zenyatta is incredible, but it also takes a fantastic jockey to navigate that champion! Mike Smith is an incredible jockey. A five year old race horse is perfect! At this age, they have had time to grow and mature and are less susceptible to horrific injury!
What an omen in the background of the up close shot of Mike Smith just before the race -- a poster with the name of Garrett Gomez clearly looming just above his left shoulder. Gomez went on to ride Blame to beat our Dearly Beloved by a mere nose the next year in the Breeders Classic 2010.
why would anyone here feel the need to say anything negative about Ruffian? Do you people forget that we as humans make these horses race? So we raced Ruffian in a foolish match race (no pun), and the the "vet" staff wasnt able to save her so they killed her. Dont say negative things about Ruffian to compare her to another horse twenty years later.
denise black dont you also find it upseting when the say things: "that was good for a female" "is she going to beat the males?" why are they saying that? stallions are not faster and if many mares failed to win the cup then humans are behind the poor breeding
you can't "make" a horse race. They either love to run, or they don't, and will sull up and back off the pace if forced. Better that Ruffian could take the easy way out rather than live a life full of pain, don't you think?
@Race62hud Yes, I will be following where and what happens to Zenyatta later in her life. I have been for the other horses I have watched race. What happened to Ferdinand was a huge mistake, and a pure anomaly for a horse who won such big races. But to even suggest that might happen to Zenyatta - an undefeated legend, is to completely misunderstand what she has accomplished and the love her owners have for her. I stand by that.
yes! we do. i just love to watch her strut all her BIG self around the paddock, on the track er'where. she's beautiful, smart, i mean--smart. i have never seen a horse do the pre-race stuff that she does--i mean i actually seen her stretching prior to the race! magnificent!
@KevvyKat Dreamer was based on the filly Mariah's Storm who came in 9th in the Breeder's Cup Lady's Classic, they embellished for the movie.... There are multiple races on Breeder's Cup day, Zenyatta is the only filly to win the Classic, she also won the Lady's Classic the previous year.
She has tremendous hind quarters. That's where all that home stretch kick is generated from. Being that she is HUGE she simply outstrides her opponents. She is brutally tenacious. And in a lot of her races she pulls up a bit after she passes the field going into the wire. Mike Smith rates her so well that I don't think it matters who sets the pace or what the pace is set at, she will mow them down in the home stretch. She could go 25-0 if they wanted to keep racing her.
Wish I could contact her owners.......NOT THAT THEY can claim all of her fame, but they DID MANAGE to surround her talent with awesome trainers and they did manage her schedule......she's ALL THAT, SHE IS INCREDIBLE,whatever they did with her talent, they did very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE gives me hope, mostly because of herself, but probably thanks also to those that surround her. She and hers are an inspiration.
This is a fantastic video; love the concentration on her dance moves. Putting all that footage together was a great idea. Two weeks ago I saw the Lipizzaners perform and some of her steps remind me of what they did. She's definitely got rhythm. Does anybody think she'll be in the 2010 Breeder's Cup?
sandhorse44 I can't believe that no one has picked up on what she is doing....it's called "The Spanish Walk". Google "Spanish Walk" and you will see it. What a Show Girl, she's got all the moves. Congratulations on you 16th win! You Girl, are awsome!!!!
I don't follow racing much but when I heard about Z going to the Breeder's Cup against the guys, I went online and watched her races. They followed a pattern; breaking from the back, often coming from 10, 12 lengths behind to win. But....when she hit the point on the track where she was usually that far back, she was 18 lengths behind! , I thought "Too far. Too far!" Her jockey got cocky. He let her get too far back. If she'd been 10 back at that point she probably would have won, because she was gaining on the leader with every stride towards the finish line. Jockey mistake and he knew it....he was crying on the far side of the track. He knew it was him and he loves this mare. Anyone can make a mistake. He'll regret that one all his life.
@KevvyKat it was based on Mariahs storm, a great race who was teh only horse to win all three of the Arlington races, and she brok her leg, but was repaired, now in the movie, "Dreamer" won the breeders cup classic, Mariah raced again, but it was the Breeder Cup Distaff, and she didnt win, she got ninth out of a 10 horse field, but its the fact that she was raced again
@Iriye Her humans say that she does it in response to people being around, and that it evolved in the context of being in front of increasingly appreciative crowds. She likes attention, and knows how to get it. :D Her riders, both jockey and exercise rider, say that it also serves to burn off pre-race tension in a positive way. Doesn't seem to be done in response to other animals, or an act related to aggression.
If Man O' War and Secretariat were alive and grouped with Zenyatta I'm sure they would be honored to have her "cruise" with them on a Friday night. They are all unique champions. I'll bet they would hold the door open for her too the way gentlemen should for a lady.
@Dingerz I would have to agree very much with that comment, I think also another reason for her slim loss is that she wasn't quite prepared enough. I belive the triner shouldn't have thrown her into a distance she hasn't raced yet AND she was only racing with the females. The great Zenyatta was up against some very tough competion and she showed great heart and tenacity that fateful day. Every great racehorse loses, It proves that they had the guts to race even against the best of best
There was some real old guy that was spoken to on T.V. briefly after the race and he said he had seen Seabicuit race at Santa Anita in the late 1930's when he was a young man, but he hadn't heard the grandstand at Santa Anita erupt like that, when Zenyatta won, since the day's that Seabiscuit raced there.
@KevvyKat Dreamer was done years ago, before Zenyatta won the Breeders Cup Classic last year. So only then it was correct. But the movie the horse was based on was not going for the Classic..
All you Zenyatta fans that say she's equal to or greater than Secretariat are really smokin something. Zenyatta could have the greatest kick of her life and STILL be eating the dust of Sec. Simply stated, Zenyatta never was, never is, and never will be in the same league as the mighty Secretariat. You all are insane. Either you've never watched Sec or you're in complet denial of the superiority of Big Red...case closed:)
@sandhorse1 The Spanish Walk is a trained behavior that you might see in a circus horse. She is doing this all on her own, but it might indicate that she has a second career after racing if she doesn't make it in the breeding shed.
This is an incredibly beautiful horse.I can see why she's the biggest thing to hit US racing since Big Red.All horses are beautiful mind you.Shes a terrible flirt and I think the most charismatic horse Ive ever seen. But Secretariat was the greatest and Red Rum the bravest of all time.
@TreasureOne Um, can I remind you of something? We're talking about ZENYATTA here. I think for you to go on saying she might be slaughtered is a bit daft. This is ZENYATTA - undefeated champion who might become the only racehore in history to win three Breeders Cup races in a lifetime? Yeah..that one.
+brad h i really hate the way they emphasize like: "is she going to beat the males?!" and no the stallions are not faster than mares. It's the people who are foolish to say that
www.zenyatta.com/blog That is where you can keep up on all things Zenyatta. She and Rachel Alexangra are getting inducted into the Horse racing Hall Of Fame this Friday, Aug 12th, 2016. She is in foal to her fifth foal as well. Check it out!
yes she is! she's all dat and four riders crops. this gurl is a monsta! er'time i watch her i get geeked and excited. she's the greatest "horse" of all time. let's hear it fo' da big gurls! me thinks they should run her in the world cup. letta whup upon som more o dem 'nag' of some male hosses. she's is the greatest horse of all time. you rock zenyatta!
I love to watch horse race on tv! I love horses they are loveable; caring; warmth; i detest Animal Cruelty! Animals Have Rights Also! Zendayatta loved to shake it before the horse race started! She loved to beat the boys on horse race; she loved to be on spotlight; she loved taking selfies; she is a champion! Zendayatta had already retired from racing she was staying in a farm their was an açcident that had occurred she felt backwards broke her back died instantly on spot! She leaves behind 2 ponies! I am watching this video November/ Autumn 2024 The holidays are approaching?😢😢😢
You would like to think that any foal of Zenyatta's has a head start in regards to possessing some ability on the track. I'd love to see some of her foals be half as good as her and no doubt would be the people who own them. Here's hoping she can pass on a good chunk of her own ability as it will be fun to watch both hers and RA;s offspring in the future.
@Dingerz, seriously, this Cup will be one for The Ages!!! Can the Big Girl rally yet again? Does she have one more late-stretch comeback run in her? Wow! So compelling. I remember when William Naack wrote horse-racing for Sports Illustrated, been a subscriber for the past 30+ years. Dying medium? You decide! Cheers! FrankC32
@Playboyy1985 She had a very big chance with the big boys - ONE more stride and she would have beat Blame. She was stuck in traffic and had to get out from the back of the pack. She can be mentioned as one of the greats - she proved it. Saying "no chance" is to miss what happened in the race completely.
She is so much like her Great-Uncle Forego. He was 17 hands too. Forego has always been my favorite horse. Now his wonderful niece is my 2nd favorite horse. Check him out on RUclips.
@Dingerz Like Ferdinand? In 10 - 15 years are you or many other people going to be following where she is or who has her? I doubt myself that that will be her end but the fact is that her wins dont guarentee her a place in retirement anymore then the ones before her who ended up on Japanese tables. LIve for teh moment I say though. shes the greatest horse we have had since Man o War or Secretariet.
Love the fact that they first say she's 68" tall and then say she's 17 and 1/2 hands tall. Which is it? One hand equals 4 inches. Divide 68 by 4 and you get 17. She would be 70 inches tall if she were 17 and 1/2 hands tall, or as it's written by horsemen: 17.2 (That is 17 hands and 2 inches or 17 and 1/2 hand) Either way, she's big.
If she wins HOTY, it would not be for the Classic alone. It would be the deal-sealer, because the way she crushed a quality field demonstrated indisputably the great depth of her talent. That coupled with the rarity of a top level horse, going undefeated for a career. It would be a legit reason to vote for her, as voters can use any criteria they feel like using. This is not to say RA does not deserve it also...she does. And the RA camp's arguments are also perfectly sound.
The way she moved her head up and down, you knew she had a rhythm inside her. What a mare and what a champion. Live well, Zen.
One of the best of all-time....Her poor position on the last turn and to just blow by them all to win yet again. A great race and a legend of a horse. Love you girl!!!

This is one of the better videos on Zenyatta, you get a lot of Dance action in this one. I just love that girl.
This is one of the best videos I've seen as far as focusing on Zenyatta. Thank you!
Love that mare! You could probably tell if she was sore if she walked normally!! Haha! Personality plus/unbelievable talent=greatness. :)
Thank you so much for posting this. I was looking for the Dancing With the Stars segment and am happy I found it here. Zenyatta is a legend!
everytime i see her win the Classic it brings tears to my eyes.

awesome, I watched this on TV and wished I had taped it... so glad you did :D
I like to believe that Secretariat and Ruffian had a foal. That foal is Zenyatta.
I'm so glad there was all this pomp over the race. CAN SHE DO IT? love it all- makes watching later even more fun- its like a movie with a wonderful ending!

Zenyatta never felt treatened, she just pushes the level to a whole new standard at her own will.
her dancing is her invite to "come on, challenge Me"
Thanks Dingerz!!! Awesome work upping this!
she is a legand
and she have funny dance moves:)

i looove her
She is an original. And she is amazing. Love her .
Love Zenyatta❤️❤️❤️

Zenyatta is the greatest filly or mare to ever set foot on a North American racetrack.
I've seen them all (including Ruffian four times - in person).
I'm so proud to listen to song "Dancing Queen" I dedicated to Zenyatta!
Mario is seriously 'the man' - Greatest groom - We owe ya buddy~ :) Great care! Thanks!
yes! we do. i just love to watch her strut all her BIG self around the paddock, on the track er'where. she's beautiful, smart, i mean--smart. i have never seen a horse do the pre-race stuff that she does--i mean i actually seen her stretching prior to the race! magnificent!
@KevvyKat
Dreamer was based on the filly Mariah's Storm who came in 9th in the Breeder's Cup Lady's Classic, they embellished for the movie....
She's not dancing, that pawing behavior is just a little anxiety. What a beauty!
I love William Nack. I wish he would write a book about Zenyatta.
I could see her being a triple crown winner. I love both her and Rachel Alexandra. Two of the baddest biotches in horse racing!!! LOLOL! :)
@ Nick Reyes the distance was 1 1/4 mile, synthetic track, time 2:00.62

HORSE OF THE DECADE. Second only to Secretariat. What a ride she gave us!
@AnnRan Really, she could, with all of those elegant moves she's got!
Zenyatta most vital, most alive horse of all time USA
She is so much like her Great-Uncle Forego. He was 17 hands too. Forego has always been my favorite horse. Now his wonderful niece is my 2nd favorite horse. Check him out on RUclips.
um.. she won the 09 Classic?
i watch her to get me out of the doldrums, god but i love tis horse!
Go Zenyatta!!!
wait this horse was retired already is it? how come they retire her as a 6year old?
She and Sea The Stars are best two flat horses of this era! SeaBiscuit is still up there but the greatest HORSE ever was Mosco Flyer
@Dingerz Well put!!
What's MDO? Never heard of "It"
William Nack just needs to write one more book-the one about a regal, magnificent, dancing girl named Zenyatta. And oh yeah, she can RUN.
To me, this horse was great anecdotal evidence for reincarnation. She would act like a person when she would dance.
"Just how good she is." Fifteen straight wins. Never defeated. Probably the fastest horse in the world.
