  • READ THIS: You need to install the rear shackle/bolt assemblies into the axle support bar sections BEFORE you reconnect it to the transmission inside u-joint assemblies. The boot inside the outer assemblies will not let you put the shackle in place if you install the support bar first. I'm just say'n.
The tip is to have the u-joints lined up so that the key notch is on top for both sides. Use something to mark the wheel mount plate to show where the key pline is located. (It has a simple tack weld at the front, and is not solid all the way back.) That mark, and the key mark on the inner axle, help you get things lined up quickly.
This process can be done by one person using jacks to support the axle support bar at the wheels an hitch mount. Probably a lot easier if you have someone to help you.
Connect one side first, sliding the boot up into place, then slide the other side into place.
Connect the two sides to the leaf springs.
You're in the home stretch! Just make sure you have tightened anything that you loosened.
WAIT 24 hours to let the gasket seal cure before refilling the transmission.

I really like the idea of using the flags so you know what all was taken loose.

I see you’ve got the inner shaft fully installed... How did you get the outer shaft to line up? I can’t seem to figure out a way fit it all together.

All I know is what I put in the video. It was seven years ago. I suspect that I rotated the wheel to get the splines to line up, but I really don't remember. Sorry.

@@Neighbour_Al I appreciate the response. I’ll tinker with it in the morning and see if some sleep will help 😂

What kind of fluid does it take u didn't mention that and it leaks out a lot when u pulled the axles out

The fluid is hydraulic transmission fluid. Check the dip stick and top it off when you are done. The dip stick is on the top of the transmission by the vent cap. Refer to your Owners Manual for the quantity and type.

Here you mention transmission fluid and your gasket sealer. In your earlier video(s), there was no mention regarding transmission fluid. Question is whether it needs to be drained before separation of the 3-bolt axle flange from the transmission.

So long ago that I don't remember. I have the full shop service manual set (Messicks.com) and I followed the instructions.

Is it failing on you? I am brutal to mine, and it took years for the joints to fail on me.
