Another important factor in Wemby's development is that on his team Jeremy Sochan is one of the most gifted defenders in the league and could help in facing one another to teach Wemby how to attack talented defenders. I think together they will be deadly
You also have to remember the team he was drafted to. Wemby is not only being coached by Pop, but Tim Duncan shows up at the practice facility. Duncan will definitely be helping Wemby with his footwork in the post.
@@Techbuff-Technology It really is not Spurs made the playin with Murry so you saying Murry is greater than Victor. They might not be a top 6 seed but i do believe they will be 9th or 10th with a chance to make it into the playoffs and with Victor anything is possible for him to just go off for 2 games.
@@arthurwright255 Never said he doesn’t have a lot of potential, he will probably be a superstar caliber player. But you have to consider that this is his first season, in two years the spurs will probably make it but not yet
The defensive impact is actually MIND boggling i cannot underline how insane is it to have grown men who were in the nba to give up their shots by pure fear at 18
Such a raw talent, he's almost like a ball of clay that the Spurs have the opportunity to mold and shape however they like. If spurs player development does right by Wemby he can be an all time great
BEN YOU DID IT YOU DID it!!!! watching your channel for years and here I am thinking I'm watching your vid. Hooray for recognition to one of the best to ever do it!
I havent always agreed with Thinking Basketballs takes but I've ALWAYS been a fan and rooted for his success because he deserves everything hes getting right now. I wish network analysts were half as informative as he is. NBA RUclips better hold onto this guy!
So he is sorta like a Kevin Garnett analog, with all the sliders in the character creation screen maxed out. Decent jump shooter, amazing defense range, great mobility for a bigman, secure handle, not exceptional powerful in the post, etc. If he is even close to how good Garnet was, that will make him a consistent top 10 center in the league.
@@yerrrrrrrr4567 Maybe Victor wont be as good as Jokic as a passer but i think he can get his assets up to 6 APG when he hit his prime which is still very good. The amount of things Victor can do i dont think he need to be on Jokic level as a passer 5-6 APG would be fine. If he develop into a Jokic type passer with his defense and what he can do on offense it would just break the NBA.
Excited to see how the jokic wemby match up plays out. Wemby might get tossed around in the paint a little but with that length to recover it might make for some real defensive highlights
In his first couple seasons I think wemby is going to get torched, Jokic is just that good. Between his passing, footwork, and sheer strength I think it’ll be too much for a 19-20 year old Vic. Joker will still be in the tail end of his prime in like 3-4 years when Wemby has enough experience and strength to become an all-nba type player though, and I’m PUMPED to see how that pans out. There’s gonna be a couple solid years of some absolute battles between those two
jokic and other very strong bigs (embiid, eu bigs like nurkic and such) will probably push him to a point where even he can't recover but that should get better later in his career, I also think right now if they were to face the nuggets they would/should play him off jokic as a help defender on like aaron gordon and put a stronger body on jokic, a rim protector is at his best when he faces his opponent under the rim and has the time and space to jump, a jokic post up at the free throw line is not a good situation for him, we'll have to see how it plays out but if wemby is cheating off of gordon to help on jokic he might be able to contest the shot in the corner because he's just so long and be able to block an alley oop pass if there's one, in any case we'll see and it's gonna be interesting however the spurs play him, just hopes he doesn't break against the strong players like chet did
The POTENTIAL of Vic is astronomical! He COULD be the greatest DPOY all time (Hakeem-Giannis) type because his mobility at that size is fabulous plus He is willing to hustle it seems. 7'5 yet He has signs of KD type handle and maneuverability. He also has the vision and mindset to pass which in many cases can't be taught. I hope all the young ones have success!!!
this guy's gna score 30ppg in his 3rd season book it. its laughable to think he wont reach 20ppg in his rookie year or 18ppg at least. not to look too far into the future, but i can see him even reaching 38ppg in his prime. he has the work ethic, right coach & system, the right habits, everything is just in line with this guy.
Nah, saying it's laughable to think Wemby won't be near-allstar this year is kinda laughable. He's literally a rookie. Sure, he has a lot of promise, but don't load so much onto the kid before he touches the court during the real season. Let him grow, he could be something really special but that's not right now.
@@blazefactor6849 Wemby is a long time student of the game, he will adjust really fast. The only question mark is his three point shooting, which based on his 82% from the free throw line he should be able to improve to at least 35%. If he can shoot threes at a 30% clip, he will not be an all-star every year. If he can reach 35%, every year all-star. If he can reach 40% from three, and stay healthy, he could be a future GOAT debate entry. But on defense, he is going to mess teams up, he is going to take their will to compete and crush it into dust, he is going to make NBA players go home and cry. Spurs are winning way more games this year, no matter what Wemby does on offense.
@@tribalypredisposed Man, you're super-duper overselling the potential for growth of a player. For one thing, even if you are a long-time student of the game, 99.9% of players don't come into the league at a high level. It's typically an exceptionally rare talent than can come in and have their game translate so easily to the NBA. Frankly, while Wemby's game might be very effective once he's developed it further, I don't see it being the type of thing that matches easily. Again, he's a quick, tall 2-way player who doesn't have enormous amounts of strength or touch. That typically means he's going to need to rely on finesse, practice, and a lot of effort. Those things aren't something you can gain in a season. Yes, his height will be an advantage, but it's a very different game when you're in the NBA. His ability to get fairly easy layups won't be nearly as consistent due to the dramatic increase in rim protection and weight on the opposing side, and the same for his longer-ranged shots when NBA players tend to have quicker bursts and can get higher up to contest. His defense will be good, but he'll have to handle players with exceptional skills at evading rim protection and slipping shots through. Like, Wemby might end up at Lebron tier, we won't know until it happens, but his main improvements will be in technique, and how to abuse his height to its fullest. That's damn hard in just one season. Give him time, let him figure out what he can and cannot do.
@@blazefactor6849 Wemby is no ordinary rookie. He is already going to be 1 of the best defensive players in the NBA from day 1 i can see him leading the league in blocks as a 19 year old ookie i cant think of a 19 year old rookie ever to lead the NBA in blocks and Victor can be the 1st he is that good. Dont be surprised if he have multiple 10+ blocks game as a rookie. and even on the offensive end i can see him dropping multiple 40+ point games when Victor is feeling it on offense there is nothing defenses can do to stop him.
@@Fawnswine Oh, I could absolutely see his defense being really great even at the beginning. Not sure about leading the league in blocks day 1, but I wouldn't be that stunned to see it. It's not his defense that I'm iffy on at all. It's the offense that I'm iffy on. He's not a good three-point shooter, he's alright at mid-range, and he's great near the hoop, but his dribble is still the dribble of a 7-and-a-half footer, and he's not that fast or strong. Imo, his biggest issue when getting onto the court is going to be trying to get comfortable in his spots. Without the strength and accuracy of someone like Jokic, I could see him really struggling to get into an effective position to make use of his height.
