Unicorns of Gran Turismo: PS1 Edition

- Thousands of cars have been seen in the Gran Turismo series, but even then only a handful survived the transition to PS2 and onward. I want to take a look at some more of the cars that were odd, obscure, or rare in reality. But this time, we’ll highlight cars that remained on the original PlayStation. Here are more unicorns of Gran Turismo, covering the first two games in the series.
Notes and corrections:
-Megatech operated out of Bermuda, but was jointly owned by Tommy Suharto (son of the then-President of Indonesia). Megatech was sold to Volkswagen in 1998.
-Test Drive 6 strikes again! The Dodge Concept Car was also featured in TD6, but the LM Edition remained exclusive to GT.
-The Drag R33 also appeared in the PS1 game Option Tuning Car Battle Spec-R (Japan only). Like all the cars in that game, it's not licensed by Nissan but is licensed by HKS.
-Yvan Muller is pronounced "Yee-Van Mull-Uh". I'm 0-3 on pronunciations and not paying attention in French class played a part. Thanks to MillennialChicken for the correction!

The cultus is like me in the dating scene
I remember getting Gt2 for Christmas as a kid. I don't think I've ever played a game so much because I wanted to collect and drive all the weird and rare cars. The first game I 100%'d!
I remember how I won HKS 180SX and was so excited after seeing how much power it had I sold everything else I had. And then I realized that was terrible mistake XD
better run those oval races only xD
Could be worse, could have been only the R33 Drag, I never got it to go or handle properly
Crazy how the Escudo has less HP but was 10X the beast.
@@artoodiitoo Those Drag cars are pretty much useless in GT2… 😅
They were meant to be used in a Drag Racing mode but that mode got scrapped before the release.

I honestly knew that the Renault Espace F1 was fun to drive in this game. As for the Cultus, it deserves to get back into the series. Great video.
Dodge Copperhead actually appeared in Test Drive 6.

how i can aquire a license from a defunct car manufacturer like Vector and Saab? (kinda forgot Saab was under another company)
Those are still owned by a conglomerate that just chooses not to do anything
The drag cars have street tires, just like the TVR Speed 12.
Put race tires and they become much more manageable.
i remember the time i saw the Opel Tigra Ice-Racer in real live TV racing event on eurosport Channel
with Spikes on the tire on a iced oval course a night! (similar like SpecialStage Rally cross ..)
I was freak out that it exists.
I won the GT All Stars Super Cup with an R390 road car so, if you cant in an espace f1, i guess skill issue?
And no, I didn't put too much power on it, only 500HP, i think stage 2 or 3 turbo so its still managable to handle

I know they're not rare, but I would love to have the r33 racecars back.
The LM 22 and 23, the one from Kure and Zexel, the UNISIA JECS, plus others the likes of the one from Endless, Johnson Wax, Jomo, etc.

the real car uses 2 inline 4s to drive both sets of wheels
@@squiddythekid3976 I always thought the cultus had 2 inline 4s and the escudo had a single 2l V6
Ok I mixed up the escudo hatchback with the cultis and the V6 escudo I think

@@squiddythekid3976 the first Escudo Pikes Peak (the white one with smaller aero) had a twin engine setup, but the one in GT is the later version with a single V6

Indonesian here, and we aren't familiar with anything called Megatech.
one of the Indonesian president's sons (Tommy Suharto) had joint ownership, and it got sold to Volkswagen in the late 90s

Megatech was owned by HMP aka TS and a musician and entrepreneur called SD ( i think his house is around Jakarta Barat, still housed a lot of rare cars)
HMP and SD own megatech which owned lamborghini at the time
@@squiddythekid3976 that late soeharto's golden son was notoriously corrupt. Indonesia nearly finished ramping up nationally produced car project just to be ditched by Tommy who brought a plan to rebadge KIA cars to Timor.
Dodge concept car probably is considered mid-engine as the engine is behind the center line of the front wheels. Mid engine doesn't automatically mean its behind the driver.
What about the Mark Martin NASCAR Taurus edition, the valvoline #6?

That is what i love about gran turismo 2, if only it has spesial stage route 11 and the gear ratio tuning screen from gran turismo 1 it would be a perfect ps 1 racing game

Why would someone have ownership over the name of a entire species, I never got that.
Seeing these illusive cars in a pixely format that leaves a lot to the imagination has a lot of allure, especially when even real images are grainy and sparse. And the day they appear in HD, it feels cathartic.
