- In this video I break down all the major edrum road cases on the market.
Robert L’s video:
• Video
Roland CDTP Carrying Case: $99
It's purpose built for the Roland TD4kp. I believe it would also fit the TD1kpx2 due to the fact that they both have the same drum rack. It’s made of fabric, and has pockets for extra drumsticks, drum key’s, or beaters. It also has detachable pouches for hi hat and kick pedals. It’s gotten very good reviews. The dimensions are 23 by 13 by 27 inches (580 x 350 x 680 Millimeters) 4 Pounds 7 ounces or 2kg
Ahead Armor Cases $88 ($300ish)
It has internal removable dividers, a plush fleece lining and it’s water resistant. The thing about this product, is that it’s actually an inset for the Ahead Armor OGIO-engineered Drum Sled Case. People mistakenly buy this thinking that it’s a case in an of itself. But it’s meant to be paired with the sled case. Without that, it would be hard to move around. It doesn’t have side handles so you’d have to carry it around like a cardboard box. If you pair it with the sled, the whole setup will run you around $300.
The sizes are 38" x 16" x 14"
Gator Drum Bag w/ Divider System for Electronic Drum Set $220 (large) $190 (small)
It comes in two versions, one that’s $190, and a larger version at $220. It has a 25mm padded tricot interior with dividing system, 2 Nylon web carry handles, wheels (thank goodness) and a tow handle. Plus it has a shoulder strap that's padded and removable. And finally a Large pocket on the front of it for sticks, beaters, or other drum accessories like keys, and cables. It comes in two versions. One is
28" x 16" x 16" and the other one is 36" x 16" x 16." It has positive to mixed reviews. Some of the criticism is that the handle is too short, the wheels (while they do roll well) are slightly too narrow, and it lacks a spine so the case sags and can scrape on the ground at times under weight. So this case isn’t perfect, but still worth looking into.
Protection Racket $165
It has adjustable dividers, foam inside, a top handle strap, and two side ones, but no wheels unfortunately. It’s pretty darn heavy at 10.6 pounds. It’s got very positive reviews, one guy said “five cymbal pads four tom/snare pads. and the dtx502 controller all fit easily” another said “Good quality, but be prepared to wrestle with the divider. The Velcro is so strong it sticks to everything making it nearly impossible to weave back and forth. For the life of me I cannot understand why they didn't just make individual dividers.” This one is worth looking into. 29.9 x 29.9 x 15
Millenium E-Drum Bag 48 Euro
It has 20mm Padding, 10 variable interior compartments for pads or electronics, all of the dividers can be removed to make 1 Large interior compartment. It has 3 Large exterior pockets. It has a padded handle and a shoulder strap. 80 x 44 x 37 cm (31 X 17 X 14.5) It’s gotten positive reviews too. One guy said he fix a full TD30k pad set, module, and his hihat stand in this thing. It can fit alot of pieces, but the lack of wheels would make it tough to fill it to the brim with drum stuff and move it around. You might need a dolly with this one, but it’s at a very low price.
Gewa SPS Drum Rack Bag 180 Euro
The Gewa SPS Drum Rack bag comes in at 180 Euro, and can fit a whole roland MDS20 rack. It has 20 mm Foam padding, a shoulder strap, and two large pockets.
Size: 100 x 54 x 30 cm (39 X 21 X 12)
Gewa SPS E-Drum Gigbag 212 Euro
It’s Tear and water-resistant, It has 20 mm foam padding, and here’s one Big exterior pocket. I also has wheels and a shoulder strap.
Dimensions (W x D x H): 105 x 38 x 38 cm. The reviews have been positive, saying that this bag is very well made. They also point out that the non adjustable compartments are actually pretty darn useful because you don’t have to keep adjusting them every time you put the drums in and out of the bag. it won’t quite fit a 15” Roland cymbal sitting sideways, and the shoulder strap kinda just gets in the way. But overall this looks like a great choice especially at the price.
Drum-tec SPS E-Drum Bag - Big SIZE
This bag looks incredibly similar to the Gewa bag. It costs about $180 and has also gotten solid reviews.

Any chance of an updated version of this list? 😮 Looking for something for a 17KVX2 case for bringing to a jam/gig!
This video is a few years old but I just found it. I use a pelican hard plastic case with wheels that I bought from bass pro shop for like 40 bucks. I also use coated wire cooking pan organizers to keep my pads organized in the case. I have no complaints.
The backline rental company i sometimes work for uses a custom made big hard flight case on wheels for the TD50 they have in stock. The type of case for large drum hardware, large stands, etc, except that it has custom made compartments inside (for the module, cables, pads, stands, ...). The only thing that stays outside the case is the rack itself (which is folded and put on top of the flightcase).
Hey Justin I've been using a large gym bag with wheels for 4 plus years, I put the boxes that my pads came in from Alesis all taped together, pads on bottom and cymbals on top in cloth shopping bags to prevent damage, on top of that I have the module in a cloth bag, it all fits very nice and I haven't had any damage yet, up and down stairs, in and out of trucks all types of weather and venues. Pedals in one large side pouch and sticks and drums stool in the other large side pouch, I also have a spare bag and they didn't cost me a dime.
When I had my Pearl Drum X (in the 80's)
I had a custom made pack n roll case, fabricated in London. It was foam lined for the pads (inc the kick pad) with a lift out case for the brain.
I gave them the dims, an picked it up direct from the factory.
Took it back home on the train. Later changed the nylon castors for rubber tyred ones
Much quieter an easier.
Had it for about 2 yrs then sold it as I went back to acoustics.
Helpful - thanks Justin 🙂
CA - “Circa” (or “around”)
Inches? Centimeters? Who knows? I'm glad to know what CA means, but it was kinda worthless for drumtec to even put that on the website
" behind the value means inches, at least in Germany ;) So it's in inches on drum tec's website.
I use this US Luggage New York Multi compartment laptop bag for my SX Pro. The main compartment is deep enough so that it allows me to keep the mount on, and it’s got enough space for the power adapter, speaker/pad connection cables and an SM58 in a small case. The SX fits very securely without it being a problem to take the Multipad out and in. It should also fit the Strike MultiPad and of course the original SX. It also has wheels and a telescoping handle.
When I had an acoustic kit (in the 80/90s). I kept my large toms in a foam lined travel trunk, the smaller ones in drum box also foam lined. The kick case was also foam lined, the kick had an open head so I kept my large floor tom inside it, all carefully protected with cloths.
The drum rack I modded to fold up by releasing the upright tubes. So it could be carried in one go.
I think it was the only folding rack in the country, as I modded 2 Gibraltar tube clamps for it to fold up. The guys at a Gibraltar trade show were amazed when I told them. It never occured to them to do that.
The rack held 3 boom cymbal holders, 2 tom holders along with provison for mounting a cable hi hat.
All stands, cable hi hat, etc were carried in a stands case. I used 2 snares also cased.
Worked for me...
In the 70s:
My first pro kit was a Pearl Full dimension.
I later added extra toms. I then had 8", 10," 12", 14", an 16" concerts.
Along with an 18" floor tom (singled headed, so I could carry extra toms).
Which after carefully working out, I put the 10" an 14" toms in one 18"case, all wrapped in plastic bags. Then the 8" 12",16", inside the 22 kick case.
This made the cases heavier, so I simply mounted a plywood base on the bottom an fitted some casters.
Result:
I could breeze into clubs wheeling my cases in, whilst the other guys were struggling to carry their amps. Who said drummers are dumb! lol...
I use two pieces of rolling luggage, and A LOT of towels for padding ;). Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for sharing your travel luggage solution :)
65 Drums you're welcome! I love finding solutions without buying extra gear :)
Thanks! Im just moving mine from apartment to apartment and trying to remember how I did it last time....I think I put the drums in the cardboard boxes....hardware I think will just ride in my hatchback....ahhh I think I put cymbals in cardboard boxes as well....then I fold Roland TD20 bracket awkwardly and ride...ha....trying to so this as simply as possible without destroying them. Thanks for scoop...I think this jogged my memory. Glad im not the only one riding without fancy cases....ha
In the 80s I had a Pearl Drum X e kit.
I had a pak n roll custom built to my specs. It was made in London UK.
It had foam lined compartments in the bottom for the pads, and section for the kick pad. It also had a lift out tray also foam lined for the brain (as it was called in those day). Worked for me. Stands were in a seperate stand case.
Thank you for the very helpful information Justin as always I have learned loads from your videos, I have been using a large gym bag and a medium sized luggage case to move all my pads and stuff around and I don’t think it’s a very sustainable set up to be honest… 😅✌️
I now have a Millenium e kit modded with mesh heads. I transport the Roland TD 8 module in a suitcase, I place it in the centre into a small plastic crate an enrobed in a thick towel. There's room around the crate for sticks ,power supply an multi power extension.
The kit itself is folded down and placed on top of a tennis ball stage.
This all fits neatly in the back of a Chrysler Town an Country.
My Laney Audiohub AH 80 is carried on a small cart.
Compact or what.
I used it recently at a 3 day festival.
Thanx for this!! For the drum rack I bought a used Golf carry on system with wheels!! i saw them a lot traveling in airports!!!!!! It really makes me happy. For the drums and cymbals i use a Plastic case bought in Homedepot with wheels. For pedals a generic flight case! and in sam's i bought a little carrier that makes everything easy for around 35$
I never sent by airplane, i'm afraid of losing some parts (kit is really expensive) i usually ask a set for the gigs! but i do travel a lot with my car!
I had the millennium bag but my kd120 bass drum caused the long compartment to split. I got the drum tec bag which is the same as the gewa bag and it's been very good. Drum tec are a great company with excellent customer service. After a lot of research I realised that the only way to case my kd120 was to get a custom made bag. This proved to be very reasonable and very sturdy, however it lacks padding.
Thanks Justin! This is exactly what I've been looking to buy for e kit, very interesting and informative!
Hey Justin, I don't know if you have an older video floating around about this topic. But here's an idea, maybe you can make a video and convince people (that already own an acoustic kit) WHY they should buy an Ekit. Just a thought. Keep it up dude, your videos are very helpful and entertaining.
Hey Justin! Great job.......I have purchased/used both Gator e-bags. They work well, but I was not satisfied, so I continued to shop and found some real expensive custom flight cases online. I kept shopping and bought a large hard shell gator case with handle and wheels. I can put all pads in it w/Cymbals. I use the dividers from the Gator E-bags for separating.
I use 2, deep( 16x 6x46 ) hard shell rifle cases with customizable foam. 2 cases will hold snare, 4 toms, 8 cymbals and 2 kicks. Works well..
Great video, Thanks for the mention at 11:47 :)
Sure thing :)
Great topic. Just another idea I use to carry the drum module. Got a 4U rack case with a sliding shelf. Mounted module to the sliding shelf. Great case to keep safe during transport, slid drawer out for show and what I find is the best part. I keep all the cables in the back of the module, stored in rack case, so when I arrive to set up all the cables are already in module just need to hook them to the drums
How do I find this 4U rack case, this sounds like what I need for the module?
@@Rick2stix I got mine from Amazon
Here is what I am looking at….
ProXT-4MR4Ux 10U Space Slant DJ
Combo ATA Rack Case + Sliding Laptop
Shelf
Great Topic! I use my equipment for acoustic drums. A standard long hardware case with wheels. I wrap the Pads and cymbals in a blanket and it fits inside the case. Rack folded up.
LOL Johnny Rabb loved that bag.
How could we do an interview with him?
haha you're right Johnny Rabb was REALLY excited about packing up that drumset haha :)
Perfect timing...I was just shopping for cases so this is very helpful.
Hey that's cool, make this just in time i guess :)
I just put each component in its original box and then load them all into a hard shell hardware case. I have all the cables wrapped in a plastic coil and zip tied to the mounting rack. I fold the mounting rack up, leaving the mounting brackets in place but folded over to avoid sticking out and taking up more room. Then I wrap the rack in a packing blanket. I also paint witness marks on the rack and brackets so I can quickly and accurately realign them to their proper playing positions.
Thanks for tips!
These videos are really good and keep you entertained
I have 3 Yammy DD-55's and when they r needed I put them in a foam lined suitcase to protect them. My latest aquisition is a Medeli DD309, which is also transported in a foam lined suitcase. Look after your kits, cos no one else is going too...
You explain things really well
Hi Justin! I’m late watching your video. I just bought the new Alesis Nitro Max kit and was wondering what carry bag(s) you might recommend for transport? I do plan to gig with this kit, but want to protect it best I can. Thanks for your reply! John
Nice video and facebook post Justin. Currently shopping around for a new transport option for a lot of upcoming gigs.
Thanks everyone for their input, too!
Glad you liked the video!
This video just convinced me to save the cardboard box my drum kit came in for my once a year apartment move shifting. All these cases are too damn expensive.
Very interesting topic
Thanks :)
I have a Roland TD-11KV and transport the pads, hats and hi-hat peddle in a regular carry-on luggage with a towel in between layers. The I just fold up the stand and carry under arm. I still need to figure a good way to transport my double peddles, or now I just carry it in a canvas tote bag.
bdpgraphics seems like a good idea for airline travel. There are some pretty hardcore suitcases out there 😊
After watching this, I made plans to shop the Gewa and Drum-Tec options. Lo and behold, they want an arm and a leg to ship from Germany to USA. Ugh! I would have assumed they would have stateside distribution warehouses.😭😭
Question here: what kind of set up would you recommend to transport an entire Roland TD, including rack and all? I'm moving transatlantic, and I need to either fly it with me, or put it in a container ship. Either way, it has to be well protected
I carry them... My arms hurt.
I have the Nu-X DM 5, it's pretty heavy and the rack doesn't really fold nicely so it probably won't fit in any bag.
For the Roland vad506 would you just use acoustic cases
Gator edrum bag for Pads, Cymbals, Module and thone seat
Acoustic drumbag for 18" kick drum
Perl hardware bag for hihat stand, thone stand and cymbal arms
Tama double pedal case for pedals
Drumrack just folded up without any bag or case
Good vid thanks a lot question which bag would be better for my nitro Kit?
Did you get a case. I have same set
justin, if i need a bag for just the module and cymbals which bag if any would you recommend
Thanks, my dude. Very helpful.
dam yo, look at that lighting upgrade!!!
Glad you like the new look! I re-positioned one of my box lights to be alot higher pointed down at me.
what would you recomend for the whole roland td17kvx? thnx!!!
I'm also looking to bag an entire Td-17kvx..
@@jameschappell8628 Have you solved this? I need a bag too...
@@nicolascuneo706 unfortunately mate I haven't managed to get a bag for my kit. I've been using some of the original box/the interior sleeves to move the kit around.. not the best really and definitely not a permanent option. However there are some decent drum hardware cases that could fit most of the kit with the right diameter. I recommend one with wheels as this would make it quite difficult to move around with it bei gso heavy. Try Hardcases. That's my idea anyway.. and maybe making my own foam inserts. I think you can alternatively find bags/cases made specifically for electric kits however these can be more expensive for practically the same job. I believe Protection Racket have some options. I hope this helps! All the best
1:40 Ive seen this before. Ogio is the actual brand of the company that makes the sled bag itself, not Ahead Armor. They must have a custom brand deal with Ogio.
I have the Ogio 9800 rig sled and Im pretty sure you can buy the insert for it but Im not sure.
Does anyone know if you HAVE to buy Ahead Armors specifically branded Ogio sled or does it share the same dimensions are the non ahead armor branded?
7:00....... "ca." means approximately So they are saying it is approximately 41 inches x 15 inches x 15 inches. The INCHES marks are there. Good video appreciate the digging.
@7:05 ca. stands (in Germany) for "zirka" which means "approximately"
I've just purchased the Yamaha TDX 10 kit and I'm looking for cases. Any suggestions? The kick drum will be the problem, the spurs and pedal mounting bracket are fixed.
I have a millennium 850 which is similar to an alesis strike pro. Is there a bag or set of bags you would recommend that can carry the pads and module plus a broken down rack?
drum cases for the complete Roland V-Drums Acoustic Design VAD706???
Is there a case out there just for the electronic cymbals?
Thomann all the way! great video, Justin!
Excellent! 👍🏻🤙🏼🖖🏽
Hello Which bag is suitable Roland MDS 25? Thank you!!!!!
Hi, i move my roland td 30 complete in drum cases because i like to keep it in good shape
Awesome 👏🏻
Glad you liked it! By the way, I enjoyed your concert video from the other week.
65 Drums yeahh thank you so much, Justin... I’m glad to know that you like it.. hope to up some more soon 🙌🏻
I use a Roland bag that came with my drum set
Which drumset is that?
65 Drums I got a Roland td 12 used of eBay
That’s my question
Ca It is short for "circa" (german language) which means "approximately."
Great topic and interesting
Glad you liked it!
anybody have any advice on travel cases for a Roland TD-07 eDrum kit? I have a double Pedal as well
That members case from Walmart is now $78.99
Good video Justin
Hey Thanks :)
why isnt there a case that holds rack, pads and module?
Roland cdtp is not available ing UAE how can i get that what should i do?pls help
Check out the cases from the company called traps
‘ca.’ probably means ‘circa’ which means something like ‘about’ or ‘roughly’.
Rutger van de Sande that's right, it's used in german for "approximately"
That still doesn't tell me what the numbers actually mean. Inches? Centimeters? Who knows?
65 Drums looking at the comparison with the Gewa bag, that would be inches.
How about airline travel?
Check out the acoustic and electric sets as well I own the portable acoustic
I need something to transport my command x mesh kit.
For roland tdkpx2 drum case?
ca. means 'circa' aka 'approx'.. we use 'ca.' in Europe because 'approx' is only English
Hy pls recommend me td 17 kvx .
Wow. Road to 30,000 whaaaaaaat 20k to 30k in like what 6 months?!?!?!?
I'm getting about 2500 subs a month, things are clipping along. Btw I gave your channel a shout-out in the newest video
hey Justin
Hey Neil
Holy crap they really rip you off with the specialty bags!! 25 bucks worth of fabric for 250 dollars. Might be able to save some money by repurposing something else. Like modding a rolling hockeybag (they have spines!) with a padded divider system or one of the cheaper bags.
Justin. Get out on my head. Just bought a Roland TD-50k and I'm looking for cases.
hahahahaha

You're first though
Yaya
I mean yay
I always get confused cause it said 1 view when I got here

ca. = "capacity" ?
Tell me you were joking about the racket thing ... ;D
;)
ca. is an abbreviation of latin word 'circa', which means 'approximately', 'around'
Ca = Approximate / around or about this or that measure.
That still doesn't tell me what the numbers actually mean. Inches? Centimeters? Who knows?
The " symbol after a number means inches.
you say gewa like geee vah german w sounds v
ca = calculated area in other words - approximately
CA doesn’t help us know what the numbers mean :/ CM? Inches? Who knows?
Usually, it means the area was originally calculated using the Metric (usually cm) and the size listed CA is converted to approximate in Standard (usually in). However, that isn't always the case, engineers and their engineering language, what are you gonna do? :)
Ca. Is german
because tohnamann is german and Ca. Means approximentely
So it s a Not realy well explained meshurement
Cool vid 👍👍
Hey Justin
Hey Jacob
