What I kinda like to do as undeveloped small nations, is just build up a force in the capital (it never relvolts) and then force a revolution by putting intelligentsia at the start (usually, you have 30-50 legitimacy with landowners intelligentsia government), forcing a revolution vs landowners and church at least, then rushing through important laws, getting Republic, Census suffrage, homesteading and slavery abolished by 1840.

I remember the first time I've played as an African nation (Sokoto), dominated most of Africa, took ireland from the UK, had a texan vassal and a protectorate Brazil, really fun campaign.

I recently tried to play as Sokoto with no trade (isolationism was on 99% of the time and no trade was done 100% of the time, no customs unions no nothing, borders stayed closed foreve) and I reached 177mln gdp by the end its really surprising just how self sufficient Africa can be Sokoto is definitely the best African country tho as in strongest they have such a huge army that with the right infamy management you can pupet every single country in Africa but you'll probably need some European to declare war on you to ban slavery I literally just instantly surrendered when ai did that and similar things happened multiple times so I assume its common so yeah having europeans start diplo plays on you just for you to instantly surrender is pretty nice
i woke up with a massive headache and went to youtube to get my mind off of it i stared at this video in my recommendations for a solid 5 minutes before i comprehended what a funj was and why this hoi4 mod you were playing looked so weird

Tip for people new to victoria 3: don't overfocus on production tech, staying up to date in society tech is as important (Price Market Acces, taxes)
