She was already VERY successful, and her work was already being privately traded for around 250k before she ever considered dating him or joining his gallery. No average collector was able to acquire any of her work and there was quite a waiting list. You also refer to her selling paintings for $400. If you actually read that story more carefully, she was once selling *drawings* for $400, which is a very normal price point for someone starting out an art career. Her *paintings* would have been a few thousand back then. Drawings are not paintings. The average person too often will call something a "painting" just because it's in a frame. Total ignorance. There's also a lot more you don't know about her story because many of the details are things you only learn from being inside the art world. I certainly think the 50 year age gap is weird, and it's disappointing that she couldn't just do things with a bit more dignity, but for someone with as many subscribers as you have, it's a shame that you obviously don't have your facts straight and are ragging on someone you clearly don't know enough about to be talking shit. I think the description of Larry Gagosian at the beginning is a bit age-ist. For 78, he's very solid. Yes, she's good looking; at 78 she'd be lucky to look half as good (I hope to look that good at 78.) You wouldn't want a woman just for her looks long term, she needs a nice personality, intelligence and other attributes you'd find desirable. So, he doesn't bring youth to the table; he's probably intelligent, interesting, maybe he's good in bed. A 'sugar daddy' gives a monthly allowance or pays for an apartment, if neither occurs; she's his girlfriend and may or may not have a side benefit (pretty clear that her art being promoted by his gallery is a nice bonus.) Personally, I'm looking for women half my age to make content with and get rich together over 20 years; then hope that some want to stay with me (if I look like him when I'm 78 and they've been with me almost 40 years then we'll all be considered lucky.)
I can't really make up my mind about her...this sugaring dynamic has existed since Peggy Guggenheim, and many beloved artists of the past were the beneficiaries of it. She also is undeniably talented at painting - but at the same time, her paintings are not very unique. It's not what I'm looking for from art. Once you nail the renaissance, mannerist technique, the concepts of the paintings have a high success to failure ratio, i.e. not very experimental, sort of a rehashing of Paul Delvaux and John Currie.

A 'sugar daddy' gives a monthly allowance or pays for an apartment, if neither occurs; she's his girlfriend and may or may not have a side benefit (pretty clear that her art being promoted by his gallery is a nice bonus.) Personally, I'm looking for women half my age to make content with and get rich together over 20 years; then hope that some want to stay with me (if I look like him when I'm 78 and they've been with me almost 40 years then we'll all be considered lucky.)

I can't really make up my mind about her...this sugaring dynamic has existed since Peggy Guggenheim, and many beloved artists of the past were the beneficiaries of it. She also is undeniably talented at painting - but at the same time, her paintings are not very unique. It's not what I'm looking for from art. Once you nail the renaissance, mannerist technique, the concepts of the paintings have a high success to failure ratio, i.e. not very experimental, sort of a rehashing of Paul Delvaux and John Currie.
Fine art isn't worth anything
