Amy died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. Amy did go to rehab but relapsed. As someone who is an alcoholic and been to rehab, this song breaks my heart. Untreated addiction ends 1 of 3 ways. There is a performer in California named Frankie Jordan. She sings as herself with her own band but also performs songs dressed as Amy Winehouse. It is astonishing how much she looks and sounds like her. facebook.com/dearamyband
"It seems like she's not even trying too much"... That completely nails it. I haven't noticed before, but this is indeed one of the major points why this song is working so well.
"Love is a losing game" is my favorite Amy song, but all her songs are superb. She was born in the wrong generation definitely, probably the biggest talent of the 21th century so far.
She was teased about her look with the beehive hairstyle, which I loved. It was different and her jazz influence was a refreshing change to the industry at the time. You know you're good when Nas features you in a song. Check it out Nas ft. Amy Winehouse , "Cherry Wine".
This was my first introduction to her.....the sound, the style, made me feel nostalgic yet it's so fresh!!! Her voice was one in a million, for true! Such a tragic loss.
As soon as I heard this song on the radio, I knew I had to get the CD. Amy Winehouse. A great voice, great interpretive skill and just a great presence. It’s just sad that she and those around her couldn’t figure out a way to get her strong and help her stay strong to overcome the “demons“ in her life. RIP ✌️💜
I remembered when this song came out, is was living in London and I went crazy about her. I cried for days when she passed away. Check her songs (life is a losing game, back to black and Valerie).
Exceptionally talented Artist. Wrote her own songs, knew how she wanted them to sound, didn't care about putting up a front and was just being her self. I remember in one interview she was like :I'm just a musician. Lovely video! If a song makes us do the face... It's a damn good song. ❤️🙏🏻
Amy had an AMAZING voice. Did duets with the Great Tony Bennett. Something about folks in the U.K., they do the BEST Blue Eyed Soul and Funk. I'm a Philly girl, where the Philadelphia Sound grew from, and some pretty good Blue Eyed Soul came out of. But, DANG, the U.K. beats American Blue Eyed Soul, hands down! Sadly, Amy died of alcohol poisoning, which makes THIS song particularly painful to hear. She's one of the latest musicians to join the 27 Club.
Bad Kitty, have you ever heard of The Commitments? If not, you have to check them out! Btw, I'm from Camden NJ, born and raised. However, I joined the Air Force and lived in the UK and Europe during the 80s and 90s.

I was away for respite in Grenada and had this as my ringtone. Everytime the phone rang people would stop and listen and demand I play it again. That made me laugh. In my darkest times, in a lot of pain, my mother would say "Put on Amy" and I had some peace and could smile again. My mother and that little girl saved my life. Miss you both always. ❤
OMG you´ve got to listen to and watch "Body and Soul", her duet with Tony Bennett. ESPECIALLY before or after her a capella version of "Valerie" (video on a sofa chair)!!!
Amy was such an incredible talent; the production you're hearing is Mark Ronson producing and The Dap-Kings, Sharon Jones' backing band, with the classic R&B sounds. Remarkable album.
As always Javon, You got it! She died tragically of alcohol poisoning in 2011. There is an excellent documentary called, "Amy" (directed by Asif Kapedia), a really nice guy I met at the premiere in LA (at the Grammy Museum). Her dad was actually a POS that exploited her and her bf was the same. She was extraordinary but had no one to turn to. An AMAZING artist. Gone too soon.
I'm extremely saddened by the fact that we will never be getting new music from Amy. Perhaps if she'd gone to rehab and truly got her life together she'd still be with us. Just think about what could have been. She has left us with a great music legacy though. RIP Amy.😢
Take the box is one of my favorites by Amy Whinehouse. But, I love all of her songs. I think she said Dinah Washington is one of her faves which is where I think some of the raspy voice influence comes from. A lot of jazz and blues singers used that technique. Lol! The innocence! When she was talking about when she went black and came back, I’m pretty sure she was talking about blacking out from the alcohol/drugs and coming back from unconsciousness.
You should check out the documentary called Amy on Netflix. I highly recommend it. Its very sad seeing her life spiral and we lost a rare talent. She didn't want the fame but the industry wanted her & she couldn't escape it
Its great to watch the video. A very talented artist and writer and she is looking really well here. Life can be challenging and having it played out in the media l can't imagine how difficult that is. God bless her and thankful we were bale to share in her music
"Yes, I've been black" is a British expression for "Yes, I've been drunk". The line therefore doesn't have a lot to do with Amy's other song that you mentioned "Back to black". Also, "Rehab" was released prior to "Back to black". I like very much your commenting in general! You manage so well to highlight all those different implications by music, lyrics and the artists' biographies and to bring these together into one concise interpretation. And: you seem to not be ashamed of showing your compassion when it comes to tragedies or heavy topics. Thumbs up 👍!

My brother, a confirmed, life long drug addict, passed away. I pulled up his favorite song on my play list, "Red Rubber Ball", the next song on my play list was "Rehab". I took it as message from him, taking ownership of his decisions. R.I.P.
I will never forget the day she died, i was like 11 or 12 and I didnt knew her but my parents did and they were very sad. idk why but thats a day that I will never forget
There is a performer in California named Frankie Jordan. She sings as herself with her own band but also performs songs dressed as Amy Winehouse. It is astonishing how much she looks and sounds like her. facebook.com/dearamyband
Duuuude, i've been waiting for you to check out more Amy! Please keep reacting to her music!
we miss her ..she lived near me ...such a genuine caring girl .always around camden where she lived ...alwAys polite lovely RIP AMY XXX
Amy💖 you should react (if you haven't) to Tears Dry On Their Own and maybe to In My Bed
I was beginning to think nobody would do this song! Thank you! 🥰
Amazing voice. She would have fit right in with early jazz and swing artists.
This song always makes me think about the sadness in her short life 💔 RIP Amy
The World has lost such an outstanding talent
The trumpet, sax, and other brass instruments are from a group called The Dap Kings, who guested on the album.
she had an iconic voice
"It seems like she's not even trying too much"... That completely nails it. I haven't noticed before, but this is indeed one of the major points why this song is working so well.
"Love is a losing game" is my favorite Amy song, but all her songs are superb. She was born in the wrong generation definitely, probably the biggest talent of the 21th century so far.
She had one of those haunting voices; RIP Amy Winehouse🌹🌹🌹
RIP
✌️💜
That’s my girl. RIP💓
Amy was so talented. So tragic that she died so young. Rest in peace Amy. Thanks for the reaction 👍🎶
Wow! I had no idea. I had never heard her before. Outstanding!
I remembered when this song came out, is was living in London and I went crazy about her. I cried for days when she passed away.
Check her songs (life is a losing game, back to black and Valerie).
Amy was one of my favorite singers. I especially like her jazz songs .
Exceptionally talented Artist. Wrote her own songs, knew how she wanted them to sound, didn't care about putting up a front and was just being her self.
I remember in one interview she was like :I'm just a musician.
Lovely video!
If a song makes us do the face... It's a damn good song.
❤️🙏🏻
She has a ton of great songs imo!!!
@@abmqa When I think of The Commitments, I think of a movie about a Bluesy Rock like band in the U.K., trying to get a break.
Am I right?
I've got memory issues, long story, not drugs or alcohol, so, I can't remember if I've seen it but, my brain keeps showing me a movie scene.
Please let me know because, NOW I need to look that bad boy up, lol!
@@badkitty4922 Absolutely correct! The movie is awesome, a 16 year Andrew Strong is the lead singer and is incredible. Every song on the album is good. Especially Mustang Sally and Dark End Of The Street. Try a Little Tenderness and Chain of Fools. Destination Anywhere and Do Right Woman Do Right Man....gawd I forgot how good this album is! Listening to it now 😍😍👍👍😍🤩🤩💥💥
@@abmqa oh wow! Such wonderful, classic R &B, Bluesy, Rockin' songs, too!
I don't know where you live but, have you heard of Robert Palmer (RIP)?
Addicted To Love/ Simply Irresistible/ Didn't Mean To Turn You On singer. In his earlier career, he sang some amazing Blues and Funk.
He was English so, yeah, Blue Eyed Soul. He also did a few covers, and although I usually HATE cover songs, Mr Palmer BROUGHT IT, if you know what I mean.
Thanks, friend, for confirming what I was seeing in my mind's eye.
I definitely gotta see if I can find and watch The Commitments!💖😘👍
ETA: of those 3 songs I first mentioned, Robert Palmer's Didn't Mean To Turn You On is my favorite.👍
@@badkitty4922 yes I was living in the UK during most of the 80s. The music in the UK during the 80s was off the hook 🪝😁😃😃. Robert Palmer was huge. Now I'm living in New Jersey, Sicklerville. I'm like 30 minutes away from AC
Every single time i listen to this song, the moment she says "I just need a friend" it breaks my heart, i always start crying
YES...Yes SIR!! GREAT SONG! It broke me when she passed cuz it was like I FINALLY connected with someone who knew EXACTLY what I was going through and then she was just...GONE! She was my "friend" without knowing. No other artist has hit me the way she did and still does
Absofrickenlutely 😎
My bad nephew, "holding on to you ", live from London
Love Amy Winehouse...so sad she passed so young. She had a lot to give music lovers all over the world! thx for sharing Jayvee :)
I use to have this as my ring tone 🤣 people would bust up laughing standing in line at places
Amy was an extremely talented woman. Really enjoyed your reaction to Rehab, have a great day. RIP Amy 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
She was very unique when this music came out. Nobody sounded like her
I remember watching and loving this video and "you know i'm no good' while in London (Dec 2006.) I came home to the US singing her songs but nobody here knew her music yet. I was so excited when she finally crossed over to the US and they started playing her music.
You should do her song “You Know I’m No Good”, it’s a great song, one of her best besides this one and “Back To Black”…..
Valerie is one of my favorite
R,I.P. Amy Winehouse 🙏🏼
Everyone in a while there comes a singer with so much talent and heart. Amy is a legend. Gone way too soon xxx
She paved the way for singers of this era including Adele, etc. She was a true artist.
Produced by Mark Ronson with the Dap-kings. Check out more Amy please.
Also Sharon Jones and the Dap-kings too. Gone too soon.
I think she was a big influence on Adele
I loved her performances with the specials. Esp, YOU'RE WONDERING NOW. She looked so happy & healthy & that's how I prefer to remember her
I was away for respite in Grenada and had this as my ringtone.
She just wants to listen to classic soul, Donnie Hathaway and Ray Charles
Me too, for the most part.
And Slick Rick…
A lot of people miss that reference! I would encourage everyone who has never heard him to check out Donny Hathaway
Love is a losing game is very emotional. Also her first album "Frank" is amazing. Start with "Take the Box".
Her voice is so unique....felt so bad for what happened to her. Blessings to her and her family - continued.
"You know I'm no good" is a very good song by her. Melancholic as always.
I still feel very sad listening to her music. Loved her. I hope one day I can listen to her music with nothing but joy again.
Amy was such an incredible talent; the production you're hearing is Mark Ronson producing and The Dap-Kings, Sharon Jones' backing band, with the classic R&B sounds. Remarkable album.
In 20 days from now, it will be 10 years since she died. Time has gone so fast 💔
Amy rest in peace with the angels,❤😢
As always Javon,
You got it!
You have a beautiful heart and spirit. 💕
Fantastic song, lyrics and voice. Love it just as much as the day it came out 👏 R.I.P Amy +
Her music came from deep within her.
Good insight regarding the challenges people face
You should check out the documentary called Amy on Netflix. I highly recommend it. Its very sad seeing her life spiral and we lost a rare talent. She didn't want the fame but the industry wanted her & she couldn't escape it
Thank you for the Love, Javon! Much Love back to you, friend!💖💖😘😘🙏🙏👍👍
The best, and deserved, reaction to a fabulous singer
Miss Amy she was dope soul at it's finest.
J, love your reaction to this and to most every song you do. You are calm and cool!!!
I've lived in a lot of British areas for 52 years. I have never heard 'Yes, I've been black' as an expression for Yes 'I've been drunk'.
@@Rob1Rich I've heard it said in Oz for blackout drunk
Hey J great to see ya, missed ya, doing some catching up, Amazing talent, unique vocals...Thanks, Peace
Top advice my friend, no one knows how much some people have to deal with in everyday life.
But, ppl are so quick to judge, right?
@@pamelascott5702 Your 100% right, no one of us know when we need someone to give us that helping hand, or just listen to what we might be going through in our lives, although we may look happy and normal to others from the outside.
This was my favorite song of that year it came out. Amy was a true talent. Gone way too soon!!
So much more of amy to catch up on. Pure class
When she says "Yes, I've been black.", my understanding is that she's talking about an alcoholic blackout. And yes, her daddy thought she was just fine as long as she was making money for him. I have a hard time listening to this one since she died. I wish she had had someone looking out for her that she trusted and would listen to . Who knows, she might still be with us today. How great would that be?
the band playing with her are now The Dap-Kings...check Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings '100 days' among others
She referred color black to DEPRESSION after coming back from rehab!!!! ♥♥ But ya got the rest of it rite on it was over her man a toxic rel......she doesn't disappoint her music writing truly a rare gem!!!
There’s an incredible live version of this too - I think the best singers always sound better live!
Amy attended the same Stage School (IE Performing Arts High School) with Adele & Jessi J. When she died at 27 she joined a list of folks who died at 27. Her, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Curt Kobain of Nirvana.
Aaaah j'adore 💕 Amy, she was beautiful, RIP Miss 🙏🏽
