What a pristine pharmacy ! I could walk around in a store like that all day long. It was mind blowing to me on how they repurpose unused medication. Excellent video.
We are SO Ripped off in America for prescriptions - when my friend luggage lost & pills in it had to get a script & went to French Pharmacy - USA $55 France $8 - same manufacturer same brand same dosage.
My husband left for a trip to Germany and didn't realize he was going to be there fro two weeks instead of one. He is diabetic and so he went to a German pharmacy with is script bottles explained the situation. He was paying about $200 a month even with our copay. He paid full retail price and received in Germany ....and the pharmacy sold him 3 months worth of medicine all blister packed except for insulin of course for 80 Euros. We were shocked! yes we need to reform so much here pertaining to drug costs.
This is truly fascinating because most of us, even French, have never been behind the scenes - thanks so much for posting! Also, Pharmacie des câlins is the sweetest name ever :)
I love the name "Pharmacie des calins" Hugs Pharmacy. Gimme hugs, not drugs! Also I notice that the building is apparently where "bains-Douches" used to be for people who didn't have anywhere else to take a bath or shower decades ago. Finally, excellent job on the closed captioning!
I love this. I used to be a pharmacy tech in the US, and I'm jealous of this pharmacy. Esp the dispensing. An entire box! No counting! Wow! They have it SO easy! Makes me almost want to pack up and move to France, but then I remember that I don't speak French. :(
Yes generics are cheaper and more and more common, but we generally keep the "branded" available in pharmacy, with a extra fee that is reimbursed only if your body didn't tolerate the generic at the first take (or if your dedicated Doc asked for the branded with justifications). Of course generics are better reimbursed.
Love this video Diane. It was very kind of the family to let you film in their pharmacy. Amazing place. I love the robot system, makes things much easier.
I KNOW that robot! Same robotic arms we use in IBM data tape storage 'libraries'. Gotta watch-out if you power-down while active. One of OURS threw a tape cartridge at me and wiped-out an entire door of plastic slots!
Next time we go to France, we need to go into a pharmacy. We just didn't have time. So amazing what is available there and how highly trained and informed everyone is ❤️

Love this video…..I’m going to visit a pharmacy the next time I’m in France. Love hearing the French language. They do speak a ‘bit’ faster than Duolingo !!!

Pharmacies are my favorite places to shop when I am in Europe, so this is the BEST vlog I have seen in a long time. Makes me want to get on a plane and shop there!
Thank you Diane for this wonderful new "behind the scene “. I never seen this system with robotic arms in a pharmaceutical store before. My pharmacy in Ile-de-France isn’t that’s well equipped ! The lab techs grab the prescriptions boxes with their hands and put them in a tray before they give them to us. And I love the name too. I would love receive some "calins" when I am sick... 😬
The robots delivering the medicine boxes are more and more common now in France. In medium and big cities I'd say a third of pharmacies have it now. I've been to a lit of pharmacies in a number of cities, so I have a pretty good idea about it. Generally, french pharmacies are very good
I am just now seeing this video, and all I can say is, WOW! So impressive and so far ahead of how things are run in pharmacies here in the U.S. (and the pharmaceutical industry in general). Also, with worldwide doctor shortages, I love that the French people are progressive thinkers in allowing "boo-boo" treatment and tele-med appointments to ease the burden of less serious calls on doctors' offices. C'est super!
Late to the party here! My son and his family live in France so I spend a lot of time there. All pharmacies are pristine clean and good advice. I do speak good french which helps but my daughter in law is Belgian so help I I ever needed it! Here in the UK pharmacists are similar. Give advice and vaccinations.
Excellent video! Coming from Europe, I was shocked when I first visited a pharmacy in the US and found such a large selection of non-pharmaceutical products there…..including some very unhealthy ones! As a healthcare professional, I should point out that robotic dispensing systems and individual packaging of medications are commonplace in hospital pharmacies in western countries. Most people would not be aware of this.
Awesome Diane! I so with our pharmacies here were modeled on European pharmacies. On one of my visits to France I needed a little medical attention (nothing serious just huge blisters in my feet from walking) and I went into a pharmacy in Nancy, FR and even though they didn't speak much English they were very helpful. I tried in French to ask for a "bandage for my ampoule" and believe it or not they figured it out! I am sure they had a good laugh but they were so helpful!
What a fun visit! I am enuf of a fossil to recall when US pharmacies were organized quite like French pharmacies of today -- owner-operated and filled with only medicines and, most importantly, the health and beauty products that my elementary and middle school friends and I would spend hours contemplating ... 'which shampoo should I try this week, strawberry or peach?' 'should we get started with that wrinkle cream this year?' Modern US pharms morphing into convenience stores has some advantages but IMHO none of those advantages beats the atmosphere and offering of old school pharmacies!
Thank you, Diane. Also, thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Habib for allowing you to show us their beautiful and amazing pharmacy behind the scenes! I wish we had this system in the U.S. and robot too. Merci! See you soon, France!
I was so entranced with this video. The automation and forward-thinking of their pharmacy design is quite exciting. I always enjoy visiting pharmacies and have this one marked on Google maps. It was so kind of them to share all of this with you and with us and I can’t wait to visit. I will look at some items online to see about shipping them. I had missed about turning on subtitles till after I watched it but their French was slow enough that I could understand a lot of what they said. Thanks, Diane. A stellar video!
What a fascinating video. The pharmacy is beautiful as well as efficient. The professionalism and efficiency is impressive. They seem to put the patient first and use technology in service of excellence.
Just wow! Love their pharmacy and the way they are running it. Fell in love with their medicine recycling system. Thank-you for taking us with you. Kerry from Australia.
Thanks, Diane and Tom for the video and the translations. Thanks to the Habibs and the staff as well. What an amazing documentary of their operations. I was thoroughly engrossed and didn't want it to end!
Merci Diane !
This video is excellent! I definitely would give this a 20 on the university scale. I will try and share this with my LinkedIn colleagues; much of the technology has been adopted in the US but it is at one or 2 centralized locations and not accessible to pedestrian traffic. Very refreshing that pharmacists can spend more time with consults with patients and docs and do MTM (Medication Therapy Management) instead of telling people where the diet soda is.
Hi Diane- I came to watch this video after reading your 2021 year end blog. I'm so glad I did! This pharmacy is amazing, from the warm, knowledgeable owners and employees, to the robotic inventory management and healthcare products. I live that they are able to provide pre-measured medication packages to nursing homes. Thanks for the effort this took and for the excellent editing.
I loved this video. I could understand everything without English subtitles! I've been in pharmacies in France, but they were never as big as this one. Very impressive! Thank you, Diane, for a great video :)
Incredible pharmacy. The building is beautiful, inside and out. Mr. and Mrs. Habib definitely have their act together! Shocking price comparisons for prescription drugs. Great video, Diane!
@@roblaw5807 Do a google search for ANY pharmacy that is close to the border in whatever state you reside. Even the chain pharmacies (Shoppers Drug Mart for example) take US prescriptions if you order/refill online.
I work as a pharmacy tech in the US, for cvs, and this is amazing to see. I wish we had a system to repurpose medications people don't finish - so long as they aren't expired. I love that the medications don't go to waste. I've had people pick up medication, find they have a reaction to it or something they don't need is filled, and we can't take back medications .So they put it in the bin we have for collections...and it's just destroyed. I also like that they give you the box from the company that makes the medications. Here things come in massive bottles, 500 count...1,000 count...ect. So we can't just give over stock bottles typically. I don't mind how we put labels, with printed directions, onto the bottles/boxes/ect that we give out. But having personal information isn't needed really. So many thigns I like about how they do things in France, especially how it's not also a grocerystore, does your pictures, and other things.
Awesome ! I’m learning the French language and was pleasantly surprised that you didn’t translate the conversations...I’m happy to learn my level of proficiency in the language is continuing to improve. I think your narration, in English, is enough for the non-French language enthusiast to get something out of your presentation. My vote is to keep it like this when practical.
Merci Diane et a toute l'équipe de la Pharmacie des Calins. Great video, this is what a pharmacy should be offering. No chips, food, toys etc. Cheers from Quebec, Canada.
Really interesting. Lots of the Pharmacies in France do not deviate from meds and are more like a clinic - so fresh and clean. I really get why this Pharmacy is a favourite - lucky you! It would be lovely if you could do more videos like this one.
What an insightful video! I see what you mean about it being the best pharmacy in France 😳 I'd love to take a stroll through their parapharmacie aisles for a good chunk of time... Thanks for another high-quality and informative video, Diane, and all the time that went into it! ☺️

Great! I just passed by on RUclips to watch a video... I am a French expat living in Scandinavia since the 80th, but I originate from a little village from the "Maine et Loire" and in the "arrondissement of Cholet".... :-)
Thank you for this one. Really interesting. I am not sure my small town pharmacy repurposes what I take back. I'll make sure to take my completed and surplus meds back to a bigger pharmacy. Loved seeing how the robot works and how clever that it can work out the best place to store it. I love that only pharmacists can own a pharmacy AND they can only own one.
OUTSTANDING! I use to love spending time in the beauty section. Heaven on earth. Thank you for pulling this all together and thank all the people at the pharmacy. Super informative!!🧑🏼🏫🧑🏼🏫❤️
What a beautifully made video! I am so impressed with the pharmacy as well as how you edited this so beautifully! Our Belgian pharmacies are quite similar, but this French pharmacy had some added benifits which makes it so special! Loved this. Thanks!
Your video was great! Such a bright and clean pharmacie! Love the robot they have for assistance. As a nurse, I love the PDA packets they make up for nursing homes. I am sure the French nurses appreciate that. Also, the télé health option is great. I still love my small pharmacy in my village. Thanks for all the work that went into this video. Great job! ❤️
It's beautiful the2owner pharmacists gave u a tour! Love this! It's mostly this way Ireland but chains are springing up like Boots from the U.K. and Lloyds from Scotland ! I prefer the old pharmacist that's been in the community many years!! The big chains get u with the long opening hours. I find Mc Cabes best here Dublin as I think it's mix of2! They buy out and keep often the old owners but then have longer opening hours but they have best selection and cheapest and long opening hours and yes we have that flashing green x cross here also!!
Fascinating video. I'm going to research their international shipping options, or I will just visit them personally next time I'm in France. Thanks for covering this.
Hi Natassia, we did in fact work on subtitles for both the English and French parts and they are there in the toolbar for those who would like to turn them on. ;-)
Great video Diane! Your editing and camera work are getting better every day. For people that are unaware of turning on captions, they should be made aware they can also slow the video down.
Cette vidéo est tellement géniale que je l'ai regardée deux fois. Le prix Epipen m'a vraiment surpris. Le robot est trop cool. J'étais technicien en pharmacie. Donc, le Medadom aurait été très utile !
Great video. The pharmacy is amazing. We do have some privately owned pharmacies here but they're certainly not nearly as nice as this one. I'd be in there for hours looking at everything.
Fantastic, thank you for an EXCELLENT video, thanks to the wonderful Habib family & staff too. Please could you do a video on the most popular OTC medications & beauty products with the staff explaining why they are so popular 😘😘😘😘 xxxxd
I live in a small town (18000 people) in Normandy called "Vire Normandy". One of our pharmacies is nearly as equiped as this one (which is a wow model). Another realisation : there is a "Net" of pharmacies around our city (say the county as to compare) that can provide medications from their stock to any other pharmacy in about daytime. This, to optimise stocks on unusual medications...
What a pristine pharmacy ! I could walk around in a store like that all day long. It was mind blowing to me on how they repurpose unused medication. Excellent video.

Pharmacie des Calins was truly impressive...as is your videography, Diane. I really enjoyed your tour, wish I lived closer to Cholet! Merci, Diane.
Thanks for this super video. I’m a pharmacist and I love how you presented our profession.
Great video, Diane! Very informative and interesting. And loved listening to the French and trying to remember it!
Great! I just passed by on RUclips to watch a video... I am a French expat living in Scandinavia since the 80th, but I originate from a little village from the "Maine et Loire" and in the "arrondissement of Cholet".... :-)
It's a well equiped pharmacie. Not all are the same. Fantastic robot.
Merci beaucoup! Loved this inside look (tour) of this beautiful pharmacy! I was wondering what one looks like.
OUTSTANDING! I use to love spending time in the beauty section. Heaven on earth. Thank you for pulling this all together and thank all the people at the pharmacy. Super informative!!🧑🏼🏫🧑🏼🏫❤️
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely fascinating! Thank you for showing this.
My pleasure!
What a beautifully made video! I am so impressed with the pharmacy as well as how you edited this so beautifully! Our Belgian pharmacies are quite similar, but this French pharmacy had some added benifits which makes it so special! Loved this. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it ;-)
Your video was great!
Great job! ❤️
I laughed the first time I came to Europe and saw the green crosses because here in the US that means it's a weed shop😂
You're very welcome. Glad you liked it!
Jaime! Cest du vrai. Quelle decouvert!
sometime, maybe the covid or affluence day.. dentist can mail your pharna an precription and it s very cool
Thankyou for presenting this without subtitles!
Hi Natassia, we did in fact work on subtitles for both the English and French parts and they are there in the toolbar for those who would like to turn them on. ;-)
Our 2020 French vacation was canceled and just learned a few days ago 2021 is cancelled also. Here´s hoping for 2022!
What month were you planning for 2021?
Oh no, I"m sorry! Hope 2022 is the magic year then ;-)

Great video Diane! Your editing and camera work are getting better every day. For people that are unaware of turning on captions, they should be made aware they can also slow the video down.
Stunning pharmacy !!!
It really is!
Cette vidéo est tellement géniale que je l'ai regardée deux fois. Le prix Epipen m'a vraiment surpris. Le robot est trop cool. J'étais technicien en pharmacie. Donc, le Medadom aurait été très utile !
I would like to see more in the para pharmacy Dept. Skincare products. Perhaps do a separate video sometime? Merci this was fascinating!
If this video performs well, I'll do a follow-up for sure! ;-)
Thank you so much for the info ❤❤ looking to visit Paris in October for sure I’ll look for that body oil Nuxe ❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Great video. The pharmacy is amazing. We do have some privately owned pharmacies here but they're certainly not nearly as nice as this one. I'd be in there for hours looking at everything.
Fabulous video and lovely insights to a Pharmacy. Thanks so much for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! Merci!
France 🇲🇫 = Class
Fantastic, thank you for an EXCELLENT video, thanks to the wonderful Habib family & staff too. Please could you do a video on the most popular OTC medications & beauty products with the staff explaining why they are so popular 😘😘😘😘 xxxxd
Very informative, nicely done.
Glad you enjoyed it! Merci ;-)
I really love go to Europe and visit specially Paris long tower in Paris
That was fascinating! Thanks for making this video
Great video Diane!
Thanks so much, Noel!
Diane, this video was fascinating! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video. Thanks for all the info.
