Why do my messor bsrbarus not want to eat the piece of cockroach?
I tried to give other kinds of proteins, but they are smelling them with antenna and going somewhere else. I know that they may not need proteins right now but.. really?
Hi! Yeah, that's a very common situation. The species from the genus Messor can take 100% of the nutrients they need just from seeds. So it's normal for a Messor colony to ignore an additional source of protein, as they probably don't need it at the moment. Don't worry! 😉
@@BRUMAAnts thank you for your response! Im afraid of this colony being in stagnation after waking up from hibernation 3 months ago (pretty common for this species, as messor barbsrus are really fearful ants) and i have covered test tube so I don't really know what is going on with them, like is the Queen laying eggs and are larvae growing. The second question i have for you is.. do messor barbarus actually know what's the best for them? I mean.. my previous colony's workers were getting lost in 5/5cm outworld and they died because of queen eating her eggs without laying the new ones, and that's when i lost my trust to 'ant wisdom'.
If the queen eats her eggs it means that she's under a lots of stress (especially this species, which freaks out at every slight vibration!). So don't worry, you just have to leave them in a safe and quiet space and they will do their magic!
@@BRUMAAnts i know.. to be honest if you clap hands in a room with messor barbarus colony, there is a big chance that queen will eat her eggs and fall into stagnation. But i found another problem.. i poured too much seeds and they cannot find any space for them. But i hope it's not that bad
