Hi Matt a quick suggestion, maybe you could do a couple of episodes where you show viewers how the small fixes and repairs are done. I think it would be interesting content and also help viewers keep their cost of car ownership down in these expensive times.

It's interesting when these were first released in the early 2000s, they were considered ugly, with those banana side sills, unusual front and poor space utilisation, particularly in the rear seat area but it was the first low priced BMW and they sold well. The Bangle styling copped a lot of criticism but with all the comments made here, no one says anything about the styling and these days, along with the E60, it is considered cool and almost modern. I think it now looks better than a lot of more modern cars. It was a good drive too......

Ah, the subject of my favourite Jeremy Clarkson review ever. He summed up this car perfectly: "Park one of these on your drive and the neighbours will not think, “Hmm, that’s an expensive car. He must be doing well.” They’ll think, “Hmm, that’s an expensive car. He must be off his rocker.” You can have a Golf GTI for less, and that, in almost every single way, is a better car.
So if you want a hatchback, buy a Focus. If you want a hatchback with some go, buy the VW. If you just want some action and you don’t care about space in the back, or a hard ride, or the price, buy a sports car. A Honda S2000 would be fine.
I have been accused, in recent years, of having it in for BMW. There was even some talk, after my recent review of the dreadful X3, that I would not be allowed any more press demonstrators. And this is why I’ve devoted the entire column this week to a test of the 1-series rather than tagging it on to the end of a rant about cheese.
And it’s why I’m choosing the words for my conclusion with even more care than usual. So here goes. The 1-series is crap."

I am currently driving a 540M loaner while my car is having warranty repairs. It's not really my thing (too expensive, big and impractical) but it is a shockingly nice car, much better than a lot of other cars I've driven recently from Skoda, Mercedes and Lexus. I was quite surprised - if it wasn't for the dreadful fuel economy and exorbitant price, I'd consider it.

My local Dealership were in the habit of giving me 1 Series loaners whenever they had my E46 B3 (which was quite often, because 3.3 engine just munched through suspension and brakes). Without hesitation, one of the nastiest modern cars I've ever experienced - interior felt like it had been made out of old bits of Buckaroo, the ride was appallingly bad even with the smallest rims on it, and the handling was imprecise, lumpy, and leaden. Ultimate Driving Machine it wasn't... really was built down to a price.

The fact that it's a 6 speed and the car looks good should make it sell fast.
Dealers over here just don't prep cars like you do.
They have some kudos wash it, with a sponge and a hose, and then they put stickers on the windscreen for almost twice it's market value, especially the "buy here pay here" lots.

Here's something that I only learned recently. The parts from E63, I think, M3 are interchangeable with the 1 series. So for a modest outlay you can put the subframes and suspension on, the V8 and gearbox in, you add all the switches inside and it looks OEM.

Hi Matt, excellent work you've been putting in your videos! I really enjoy watching them! Keep going! Wind deflectors: I am not a super car person, I like originality, however, if you have kids, coming out swimming lessons, you have to open your windows. If it's raining, you have to open as well and, with wind deflectors you don't get water inside and you have air flow! 😁 That's my reason for using them- air flow. Not sure if I can also gain 20hp in my 207sw ! Never thought about it in that way 😅😅 👍👍👍

Me thinks that scrunched front alloy is somehow related to why it's had spray can paint on the same side...? Grubby seats for McD takeaway spills, but 1 series owners trackie bottoms or shorts don't wear out the upholstery...
