  • in this video i demonstrated how to calculate & design TL494 Dead-Time & Soft Start Circuit, Practical & Calculation #TL494 / TL495 pulse width modulation control ic in switch mode power supply or ATX computer power supply. i explained how to use this ic in push pull mode to drive half bridge or push pull circuit. it can be programmed from 1KHz to 300KHz switching frequency . its frequency depend on RT timing resistance and CT timing capacitor
    the deadtime function generates a off periode between the switching time of both mosfets. most commonly the amount of soft start is allocated for 25 to 100 switching cycles.
    this is continuation of inverter circuit, tl494 is smps pwm pulse width modulation controller ic to drive push pull driver, it can also drive half bridge

    More clearly now after waching this video, especially on no4 pin (DTC) - waiting for video controlling op amp as current sensing, I tried modified several PSU , it worked on controll voltage but always failed in controlling current. It give me @only 30w instead of 200-300w as I expected.

    9:31 correction: datasheet specifies that these resistors should have a ration of 1:10 so you can't use a potentiometer. Best option is to use 1k and 10k and calculate a capacitor. You forgot to teach about soft-start and dead time combined, which uses a diode to separate both circuits.

      good morning dear
      i will check it
      if it is changing the duty cycle, that is good

      it will change the duty cycle

    But Rs forms a voltage divider with the R parallel with the Cs, so pin 4 will never go to 0 V. Is 100k ohm feasible to be as close as possible to 3 % dead time or can it be even higher ? (100k is C discharge time of about 0.2s )

    What may be a possible reason for unstable frequency on pins 9&10? Tnx

    • @HaseebElectronics
      @HaseebElectronics  2 года назад

      improper biasing of error amplifiers
      filter capacitors connected to the compensation pin
      de-valued CT timing capacitor
      stray capacitance in the circuit
      improper dead time control at pin number 4

    A real light bulb moment for me with this video, thank you for the clear and detailed explanation!
    I have one question. You demonstrated that the pulse width could be modulated by either the duty cycle or the dead time control. SMPS design utilizes the duty cycle method to control pulse width, what is the reason for this? Hope that makes sense?
