Hey thanks for the comment! A lot of the sound not only comes from the switch, but also the case, and there just isn't enough space in both the low profile switch and case to get any lower frequencies that we find pleasing in thocky keebs. @@fishbuildstuff Thanks, one more to check out :) I'm also looking at the "Gazzew Boba U4 Silent Tactile Switch" and the Glorious Panda Switch because both were reviewed well and I can get them in EU. But the Kailh Speed Copper are cheaper and "faster" for gaming.
All keycaps are compatible with the V2, as it's not the length of the mounting stem that's different, just the height of the keycaps. If you're thinking of using the V2's in a build, I would suggest that you mount the switches directly to the PCB instead of mounting to the plate, as normal MX keycap profiles seem to extend past the top housing of the switch.
Unfortunately, in the space the choices are slim, and even slimmer if you're looking at the V2s. The V2 definitely has a better tactile bump than the V1, however there are way more V1 choc switch options available in the market nowadays. They're cheap, and tactility is a very personal choice, I would suggest getting some switches off aliexpress to try out!
Hi, I doubt it will be possible unless you really mod it by extending the lego with wiring etc, imho not worth it as the g915 is pretty expensive. In regards to your previous question about fitment yes the v2 can fit normal keycaps, but when bottoming out the keycap might hit the case/plate.
Unfortunately, the mounts are not the same. Any keyboard that accepts standard MX mount (cherry, gateron etc) would not be able to fit low profile switches.
Do the V2's have more or less stem wobble? And which version is smoother? I have some white and red V1's and their stem wobble isn't terrible but I'm wondering if the V2's improved in that area. Thanks!
I wouldn't say they improved or gotten worse. The amount of wobble is very similar, just that V1's have more north south wobble, while the V2's kinda wobble all around, albeit less.
For keycaps you need to look at the stem of the switch, most switches come with MX mount stems so they fit most aftermarket keycaps. These switches unfortunately have a specialised mount and that makes aftermarket caps hard to find.
I have been experimenting on the Choc Mini over the normal Choc low profile as it is 3mm slimmer, and they screwed up on that big time. Not only does it now require 4 holes for pins, and a massive hole for the bottom on the PCB as it is a huge rectangle, but the overall footprint is slightly smaller than a Choc, so it will fall through a chassis made for the Choc Low profile. Why the hell could they just not keep it the same footprint as the Choc so one then only needed to work on replacing the PCB.. Arghhh
@@fishbuildstuff i don't know how to send you pictures of it, but it's kinda a "smashed" DSA keycap. I'm struggling with resin warping now, it's a challenge print a spacebar :(
@@soyo Oh yeah definitely, the warping is a challenge. I don't know too much about solving it but seems like finding a balance between the heating and print speed is what I've seen online for people trying to fix the warping. have you compared the kailh choc v1 switches with the custom Logitech Kailh switches? I would like to know how the buttom layout compares and if I can change the switches of the G915
From what I see, the pins that connect the switch to the PCB for the G915 are slightly different from the stock kailh ones. You probably have to bend the pins a little to fit them on. The switch itself is very similar to stock kailh chocs (G915 browns vs Kailh choc browns), so much so I could not tell a difference. I think only if you are looking to change it to the navy switches which have a very different feel from the stock blues, I wouldn't look into replacing the switches. At most, desoldering everything to lube and maybe do a spring swap.
I don't understand why the mounting system is different from MX, but 'traditionally' choc switches have been used in DIY and handwired builds, although there are more hotswap low profile boards being sold nowadays.
Does anyone know for sure the purpose of the new third pin thats been added, I have a reddragon k619 and I'd like to switch over to these brown switches but the pcb doesnt support the new pin
Are you able to swap the top of the v2 and put it on to the v1??? Slim chance but may be worth looking at. I am going to order a hexgears x1 but I really really don't want the keycaps
Daniel Murphy no unfortunately we won’t be able to do that as the mechanism inside is not the same as well. The best you can do would be to get a choc-Mx adapter. There are models that you have to print on your own but that’s probably the best way to go about it.
@@fishbuildstuff you prefer the v1 or v2? Also, a pcb hot swapable that comes with outemu switch, can i just swap it with cherry's switches? Or doesnt work?
@@memecity6722 The v2 is definitely nicer cause of the compatibility with keycaps which is the biggest problem for the V1. Hotswap PCB with outemu switches should be able to fit cherry switches but some hotswap pcbs have a very tight fit, you might end up bending the pins on the cherry switch. Best to get quite a few extra switches in case any pins break. All the best!
Gabrielle Cruz the keycaps for the v1 I harvested off the vinpok taptek, which you can see in my other videos. The v2 are MC mounts which fit most keycaps.
AFAIK the v2 does not have any PCB support at the moment, and the V1 barely has any PCB support. The only one I know for sure is the BM16A macropad that supports the choc switches.
@@fishbuildstuff I found this video looking for silent low profile switches, so you can imagine my frustration when I go from slightly clicky tactiles to this. XD
I own the G915, and the keycaps fit, but unfortunately when I took the 915 apart they face the same problem as the Vinpok, seems like the legs are ever so slightly different. IMHO the LP switches in the G915 are nicer anyway, not by much, but they are slightly nicer.
One can dream; I highly doubt there would be a V3 tho. Since the release of the V2, there hasn't been any new development on the switch, however the V1 has had more variants, so make of that what you will I guess.
I'm not sure, seems like most low profile boards don't really declare the exact brand of switch they are using most of the time. Check out Nuphy Air75 and the upcoming Air60, looks very promising, using I think gateron MX stem low profile switches.
god, i have a g815 with browns and I'm going insane trying to find a freaking switch that will let me use normal ass mx keycaps. the only thing i can think of is swapping out the stems and top housings for v2s and getting the linked keycap extenders 3d printed but at that point is the work and cost even worth it? that's £70 on switches and £60 on extenders. i might as well sell the keyboard at that point and use the £130 plus what i can recoup of the initial cost on a decent custom. www.thingiverse.com/thing:2793403/files
Well if you really want to change the keycaps, one way would be to get the choc-Mx adapter files from thingverse and edit it to fit the Logitech stem. Apart from that I really can’t think of any other way to have Mx caps on the g815 or my g915, and that includes my janky ass modding ideas. Alternatively, and this is gonna be a crazy suggestion, you could mould the profile of your favourite keycaps in silicon, and use a light epoxy to fill it and press the existing keycaps on TOP, this modding the keycaps instead of the switch effectively making your own Logitech LP caps, but that would be tedious and you’ll probably run into a whole slew of other issues. Good luck with your search!
@@fishbuildstuff tweaking 3d models is something I ain't exactly familiar or comfortable with hahahahahahahah *weeps*. I do plan on offloading this keeb at some point, but I made the foolishly sensible decision of refraining from jumping on cheap custom builds so instead of dropping $100 here and $150 there, I can put that money towards something beautiful that will last and allows for more customisation. I know when i'll see it. so in the meantime, while I develop a keycap addition, I would like to be able to at least USE them on something. and the epoxy thing sounds both insane and genius. I might give it a go with one cheap keycap and if it works, make my own video.

@@dejayrezme8617 I get what you mean. For me I tried topre, alps orange, and also holy pandas, and I ended up using kailh plums as my daily which is really really close to what I was used to. If you like lighter switches you could look at the plum line or just get lighter springs for it!
Thank you
if you ordered the keychron k1 lately you should get the V4 right? would love to hear your thoughts on it :)
Yep I ordered the V4, should be gateron LP switches. I’ll post a video when I receive it!
hey mate is DSA compatible with the v2 switch?
All keycaps are compatible with the V2, as it's not the length of the mounting stem that's different, just the height of the keycaps. If you're thinking of using the V2's in a build, I would suggest that you mount the switches directly to the PCB instead of mounting to the plate, as normal MX keycap profiles seem to extend past the top housing of the switch.
@@fishbuildstuff This makes sense. Worth it for trying.
are they compatible if we hot-swap them to conventional switches keyboard?
unfortunately not, as the mounting pins are of a different configuration.
Can't find any keyboards with Kailh Choc V2 Browns. How come? I was so excited.
Makes you wonder why they even bothered making those switches if you can't even use them lmfao.
What would you say are the best low profile tactile switches?
Unfortunately, in the space the choices are slim, and even slimmer if you're looking at the V2s. The V2 definitely has a better tactile bump than the V1, however there are way more V1 choc switch options available in the market nowadays. They're cheap, and tactility is a very personal choice, I would suggest getting some switches off aliexpress to try out!
should i get low profile jades or normal jades
it definitely depends on the keyboard you are using and whether it is made to accept low profile switches or regular cherry style switches.
Is it possible to resolver a g915 and put choc v2 switches on it?
Hi, I doubt it will be possible unless you really mod it by extending the lego with wiring etc, imho not worth it as the g915 is pretty expensive. In regards to your previous question about fitment yes the v2 can fit normal keycaps, but when bottoming out the keycap might hit the case/plate.
Can i use them on a Wormier k87 hot-swappable? The keyboard can use standard cherry mx and gateron switches can i use low profile
‘
Unfortunately, the mounts are not the same. Any keyboard that accepts standard MX mount (cherry, gateron etc) would not be able to fit low profile switches.
i didn't watch the full review but which one has short total travel distance ? choc or choc v2 ?
The travel distance feels almost identical, but if I were to nitpick, the V2 would feel slightly longer.
What about the roccat Vulcan, in my idea it’s small but still great
Not sure which you are referring to, google only shows me huge full size keebs, unless that was the point then the joke really knocked me out.
Do 1.5mm switches fit normal keycaps
Arghhh
We're waiting on part 2...
It's up on the channel!
@@fishbuildstuff OK, I was hoping that you use choc V2 switches and waiting for that...
are the keycap fro my k1 v4 customizable?
unfortunately what you get from keychron is what you end up with AFAIK
I designed a keycap for it, to be 3dprinted in resin, I'm waiting to arrive
Oh that sounds exciting looking forward to seeing it!! I imagine it’d be pretty sick. What profile did you design it in?
@@fishbuildstuff i don't know how to send you pictures of it, but it's kinda a "smashed" DSA keycap. I'm struggling with resin warping now, it's a challenge print a spacebar :(
@@soyo Oh yeah definitely, the warping is a challenge. I don't know too much about solving it but seems like finding a balance between the heating and print speed is what I've seen online for people trying to fix the warping. Especially with something as large as a spacebar it's gonna be annoying. Good luck!
@@soyo might try adding some ribs about 1/2 the wall thickness across the big flat surfaces on the inside...
have you compared the kailh choc v1 switches with the custom Logitech Kailh switches? I would like to know how the buttom layout compares and if I can change the switches of the G915
From what I see, the pins that connect the switch to the PCB for the G915 are slightly different from the stock kailh ones. You probably have to bend the pins a little to fit them on. The switch itself is very similar to stock kailh chocs (G915 browns vs Kailh choc browns), so much so I could not tell a difference. I think only if you are looking to change it to the navy switches which have a very different feel from the stock blues, I wouldn't look into replacing the switches. At most, desoldering everything to lube and maybe do a spring swap.
do normal keycaps fit the v2s?
MX mount caps fit, but you might end up hitting the plate if it's plate mounted!
Damn, nice video!
Thank you!
where can i pick up a pack of those low profile keycaps?
I got them from aliexpress, there are way more variants now.
is any of those low profil swithes compatible wtih outemu low profile ones?
Any recommendation on where to buy low profile pbt keycaps? Seems impossible to find anywhere
Yeah pretty much impossible to find specifically PBT keycaps, your best bet would be ABS caps on aliexpress
Is v2 compatible with the logitech pcb? G613 (linear romer-g) to be specific.
what's the point of these if they can't be used in most pcbs
I don't understand why the mounting system is different from MX, but 'traditionally' choc switches have been used in DIY and handwired builds, although there are more hotswap low profile boards being sold nowadays.
he v2 are compatible with cherry mx hot swap??
What is the second spring (torsion spring) purpose in v2 ?
Nice! Where did you get the V2 switches from?
I found the v2 switches on alilexpress, but I wouldn't suggest getting them unless you're ready to do a handwired build.
I kinda wonder, can you "cannibalize" the top of V2 into V1?
Where'd you get the v2 brown switches? I can't find them :(
I found them on AliExpress, there should be an official Kailh seller on there!
@@fishbuildstuff I checked the kailh ali shop and didn't find them 🤔 maybe they aren't available any more?
@@fishbuildstuff you prefer the v1 or v2?
Also, a pcb hot swapable that comes with outemu switch, can i just swap it with cherry's switches? Or doesnt work?
@@memecity6722 The v2 is definitely nicer cause of the compatibility with keycaps which is the biggest problem for the V1. Hotswap PCB with outemu switches should be able to fit cherry switches but some hotswap pcbs have a very tight fit, you might end up bending the pins on the cherry switch. Best to get quite a few extra switches in case any pins break. All the best!
where did you get the keycaps for these :0
Gabrielle Cruz the keycaps for the v1 I harvested off the vinpok taptek, which you can see in my other videos. The v2 are MC mounts which fit most keycaps.
It's Otamu?
It's a Kailh Switch!
i just ordered kailh choc low profile keycaps thinking they would work on on my g815 :(
The keycaps probably would, since the G915 keycaps fit on my kailh choc switches.
"oohp, there you go" sounds like how most of us lost our virginity
i...yes.
what pcb can these be used on?
AFAIK the v2 does not have any PCB support at the moment, and the V1 barely has any PCB support. The only one I know for sure is the BM16A macropad that supports the choc switches.
*_choccy milk_*
Milky....cherry???
Those are the GL switch of the G915?
FramedThunder nope these are the kailh choc switches, the GL switch is compared in the video that’s on my g915!
Hi, what profile keycap is this? It looks like DSA.
If you are talking about the blue keycap, it is an OEM profile.
7:11 english accent
As soon as you said "clicky" I almost threw my phone. :I
Haha well the clicky one is the only way you get any form of feasible tactility anyway.
@@fishbuildstuff I found this video looking for silent low profile switches, so you can imagine my frustration when I go from slightly clicky tactiles to this. XD
Can I change the Switches on the logitech G915 ? Anyone Knows that?
I own the G915, and the keycaps fit, but unfortunately when I took the 915 apart they face the same problem as the Vinpok, seems like the legs are ever so slightly different. IMHO the LP switches in the G915 are nicer anyway, not by much, but they are slightly nicer.
V3 waiting room I guess .............. 🙄
One can dream; I highly doubt there would be a V3 tho. Since the release of the V2, there hasn't been any new development on the switch, however the V1 has had more variants, so make of that what you will I guess.
is there any boards that come with the Kailh Choc V2's already installed besides the Fnatic Streak65
Sarah Sahim that would be sick can’t wait to see you do it. Would make a real interesting video for sure!
Вот поэтому и боюсь покупать механику, а то тоже стану кнопкодрочером и свитчефилом.
4:42 that is the most annoying sound I have ever heard from a keyboard. Worst click noise ever. Waaaaay too heavy as well. You clearly have very niche preferences.
I apologise. It works nicely for the capslock tho, at least for me haha.
I got a keychron K1 and I freaking LOVE IT! but I want to have a very low profile hotswap keyboard. I also got a riser to angle my keyboard for my K1 because I had problems with accidentally hitting CTRL, FN, as well as sometimes the windows button. I want a custom build for hotswappable low profile switches, and I want that keyboard to be low profile, as well, so I can have the thickness of maybe 2 apple keyboards thick. I LOVE the layout of the K1. I want to also create new keycaps, too!. If any of you want to help, hit me up on Discord. B4D-W0LF#9035
Good luck on the build! I have a K1 as well that I was going to do a video on, but it honestly wasn't worth me modding it. Seems like the K3 holds some promise but I think it's an optical board.
@@fishbuildstuff So you can’t use an mechanic switches on optical board?
@@akinoz Nope you wont be able to AFAIK, they actuate with completely different mechanisms.
swapable keys not so economic and short product life, just get $50 average mechanical keyboard, and use for two years and change another one after.
True. If only everyone on r/mk would heed that advise we would all have so much more money to spend on...idk. food? rent?
In this case the v2 kailh compatible with g915 pcb?
