Hi, yes there are plenty and if you see their range, I do not test any knives with intended usage against humans. Firstly while I'm on that subject matter, I have no expertise in combat weapons and as such, would not be in a position to recommend and or throughly test these models, for example push daggers, daggers etc. Sometimes I get asked about doing this sort of thing by my viewers but I note that many on RUclips who by their own admission have had zero military experience are testing and or recommending such knives/devices. This in MHO is irresponsible and also talking out of their rear ends to put it bluntly. It is indeed going towards Fall or as we call it Autumn (although Fall to me has a more relevant meaning LOL!. I'm not in Australia right now but OS that's why I'm now kind of "rugged up" LOL. I travel a lot, hence I can test out gear over both hemispheres and try if possible to put the tool into the right environment when given the chance.

Hi mate, yeah. I have been tinkering with this idea for a very long time mate and if u tie it down well it works just fine. The Fulcrum NFG has a good enough flattish side profile on the handle so once you've flattened a log surface, this helps to prevent knife movement. I'm always carrying climbing cords so that also works well. The idea for lashing the cutter hole came about too from one way of rigging ropes around trees for abseiling via a kind of friction method where you totally use the static strength of the rope and final knot (say a figure of eight bight) is just there as a keeper) The tighter the rope is pulled the harder it grabs the tree. In the video here there is only I think 2 turns but previously I had about 6 turns (depends upon how much friction is needed and how much cord one has too). As for the ghoulash, this model is the less expensive out of the three NFG models. The price is a very much reoccurring subject and I think they have tried to do something here with making a "bare bones" version of the NFG, still retain the lifetime warranty, plus for some reason They seem to increase much more in price outside of Italy, so I don't know if this is some crazy tax thing or not?
An excellent and interesting review, for the first time there is an advantage for me to pierce the blade intended for cutting wire, I mean to fix the blade by tying to the branch and then using the blade accurately and without danger in nature.
Hi, thanks I appreciate your comments. Yes. If the blade is made immobile and positioned how i showed, you can not easily cut yourself, even if one was to trip over the log where the knife was, your body would hit the outer part of the log first in all probability. Despite the time taken to tie the knife in such a way, it can be useful if one has to process many "spikes" etc using both hands instead of one. It can be done around people without having to swing the knife and constantly be on the lookout for people which maybe too close. I find the more one tends to be swinging a blade around, especially far from any help, the greater the chance of an accident, no matter how well trained in using a knife, we must be patient and careful in out moves.

Good review of the ER Fulcrum. It sure is a nice blade, maybe not an as much for an outdoor usage but overall excellent quality tool. Which of the ER tools in your opinion is more versatile and close to survival and bushcraft?
Hi, firstly thanks for your comments. Well, the TASK Jagdkommando works well for me. Not as big as the very capable Dobermann IV and has a safer scabbard system albeit slower to remove the knife than the Dobermann IV but we have a maximised cutting real estate, a good pointy tip and a swedge for good penetration. You can bore a good divot in wood with the tip, it already comes with a very large ferro rod (I know anyone can add their own rod but it's kinda there already. Easy to lash knife if that's what one wants to do. heavy enough to chop with but not as heavy as the ONTOS. You could do some light levering/prying with it. It's not too long. When I think of "survival" too, I'm not necessarily thinking about mega thick tips or prybars (a bit like the Fulcrum NFG I just reviewed as you correctly summed up) but thinking how useful at cutting and maybe if one had to chop. The double edged tip is a bit of a bonus for gutting fish too. If one is careful with the tip, I also recommend the very capable TASK and T4000S. They both excell at cutting and 4mm is not too thin I think but they lack any chopping power. This latter point may not be that important to you. I found the TASK could do many things in the jungle and was able to quickly cut vines and slice things instead of chopping. I've reviewed it so check it out if u haven't already. Hope that helps. BTW their MK2.1 (simple effective design) is also great but prolonged wet hands may suffer on that very grippy handle. Again, depends upon one's environment and situation.
Have not missed any of your reviews especially when you are one of the few that actually review ER. One more thing I would like your opinion is the steel. ER is using N690 which is a good stainless steel but not a tool steel popular to bushcraft community or outdoorsmen. How does it compare to carbon tool steel as far as toughness and edge retention? I know the steel properties can vary based on the treatment and I assume that ER are doing their job properly but does it work for outdoor needs as well as? Bearing in mind that their tools are designed predominantly for tactical usage.

So..i bought my 4th Extrema Ratio Knife this week ..the Fulcrum Bayonet (the Rifle version , but i have none ..) The knife makes a SUPER robust impression .. it's lighter than i had imagine out of the box it was so sharp that you can shave. Is that actually a great tanto? I think there are better knives for PURELY outdoor needs The Fulcrum is designed as a bayonet ... so ACTUALLY a weapon of war ... But as you can see in the video from Bush Camping Tools, CLEARLY also good to use as a "normal knife" .. (but for very fine work then definitely the wrong choice ..) My FAVORITE knife from ER is the Doberman IV .. and the RAO II Greetings from Germany!
Hi there glad you also like it! It is certainly super robust and the rifle version has been tested to withstand up to 150Kg against the handle! The Fulcrum Bayonet is a piece of military history, the Italian Armed Forces and the Swiss Alpine Army have it. I would like to test it together with the Eickhorn Bayonet, which is very similar to the Fulcrum (same Böhler steel from Austria) But cheaper by half.
Hi, thanks!. OK to be honest I have never had my hands on the Kreios, so all I can give you is an untried opinion. To me it looks good as it's essentially a well proven design from similar tools used in the tropics but of course as u know, made with modern materials. From the tests I've seen, it is extremely strong. The shape is a useful shape if one is in the tropics. Vegetation outside the tropics can be difficult to cut with machetes, parangs and the likes so I'd bear this in mind if you intend on getting the like and using it on other types of vegetation. There are some reviews on the big knife but I think they don't really show it doing so much. Maybe I'll think about it. BTW many ask me about this model and what i think.
I have one with the big hole at the guard and slot for rifle attachment at the butt.. I think i got the bayonet..love it.. Very strong blade and sexy... How do you sharpen the blade because the angle is sharp?..just found out the purpose of the metal part at the end of the scabbard thanks to you.....with love from Malaysia.
Hi there, yes u have the bayonet version, It is an almost indestructible blade and super tough. Malaysia, you'll be able hack open all those green coconuts you guys ship up to Singapore LOL with this baby! To sharpen it you will need a quality stone, synthetic is best as a natural one will wear dow too quickly. You can if you like re-profile the edge to a less steep angle, that's what i di for my other fulcrum S and my ER folder; and this will make it easier in the future to keep the edge. remember they put the edge on these with abrasive bands which is always easier but 99% of us don't own such equipment and these little ones you can buy, kind of hobby ones, i don't think are very useful JMHO. Personally I like the ring mount on a bayonet, when foraging some times one needs to lash ones knife to a stick temporarily and the ring helps. I often carry a bayonet myself in the woods.
Hi, yes, that's a good point although you can still do it with this model although the hole in the guard is much smaller. I guess for all those who like the idea of using a bayonet but need to overcome the legalities of using one which actually can't be easily mounted to a rifle, this is a possible option.
@@BushCampingTools oh fair enough, I hadnt thought about legality in other areas. I also know there is a ton of bad information on knife legality in many areas, even here in Canada. Just the other day I was told that double bit axes were illegal in Canada because they were dangerous. Needless to say, the fellow was very upset when I corrected him so I simply shook my head my head and walked away.
Yeah the media worldwide is to blame for all of this bad publicity and also leading to confusion about what is really legal and what isn't. I know in Australia that currently double edged type knives are illegal to bring into the country and to possess But most knife crime is committed with kitchen knives, screw drivers, chisels, safety knives and the like, easily steal-able and concealed; not by people owning costly hunting/camping knives etc. As for your encounter, well this doesn't surprise me. I know too for example in the UK they have possibly the most strict knife laws but of course they are only regarding carry, not what one can buy and one can buy legally anything almost with exception of say automatic knives. However, despite this, the knife crime is well established but the media makes it out amongst the general public, not true but confined to gangs stabbing one another or gang related. Anyone would think from the internet news reports that everyone there in the UK is running around stabbing one another left right and centre. The real culprit of course is the lack of education amongst the knife wielders where it's the thing to settle some dispute with a knife instead of one's brain. But of course tackling the lack of education( a long term serious project and big cost) in such scenarios is way way too difficult and costly for the governments LOL, NOT.
Hi thanks. I actually reviewed this model. It is a still current model from Seiko from their "Prospex" range of automatic 24 jewel diving watches (air diving only not suitable for saturation diving) Screw down crown etc. I've been wearing it from last Christmas (diving, swimming, fooling on the beach- 24 hour 7 days a week). I have to say now that I'm so used to the better accuracy of a solar quartz watch like my old Citizen diving watch (lost the bezel so no good for diving any more but the actual watch still runs perfectly for almost 17 years!). I'm thinking about giving this Seiko to my son as he is more active than me at present as there is too much computer work and I think that automatic watches are not for those kinds of occupations. This watch can also be hand wound. It was a gift from my elderly mum; in her words: " before I loose my mind I want to give you a watch" It's been bashed on rocks underwater and covered in murky sand and silt filled seawater on some work dives.
I think this is going to be my next extrema knife. I would really like to see a disassembly video. I’m trying to figure out how structurally sound the backplate is fixed to the blade and if it’s easy to disassemble in the field. I’d also like to know if the knife can be assembled with or without the finger guard like on the mk2.1 model

The Russian version does not have the guard as tis would then throw the knife into the class of a weapon in Russia. Hope that helps!
@@BushCampingTools going ahead and placing an order for one. Only a few minute concerns with this blade for me. I wish they would copy this design over to their fulcrum S model. A fulcrum S bayonet NFG would be nice and a much more suitable size for me, and being able to cut wire is a big plus. Also the scabbard on the S model is so much better in my opinion (I like that it covers the handle making it somewhat more discreet.) Other than that, the only true concern I have is for the pummel. I wish it had a bigger cutout so the tang nestled inside the pummel, causing less wear on the pummel screw, that’s the only thing I see on this knife that could potentially fail

LOL, sorry mate, I know over the years, I'm sure I've even caused marriage breakups from excessive spending on this stuff. Ok the cord i use (but not exclusively) is static climbing accessory cords, this particular brand was by the maker BEAL but I often buy Edelrid stuff too, I think the small yellow stuff on the end of the knife was from Edelrid. I'm a bit over paracord as it's too stretchy for me. Although i still use it for some things.
@@BushCampingTools Thanks! I am over paracord, since it´s okay, but its pretty bulky. Sounds stupid, but if you carry a lot of cordage and rope, sometimes it makes a difference. And there is a lot of good and lighter stuff out there.

No, it has not been sharpened. I believe the only one that has i the actual bayonet model, that's why this one is distinguished byNFG (No fixing gear) however, there's no reason why one could not do this i guess. One thing though, not having it sharpened allows it's sale in certain countries where a full on bayonet is illegal outside of the armed forces.

LOL! Hey u know, I spent time repairing that fence once the video was made! Plus the first cut was on an 2 metre or so long end strand they had just (great for me) lazily wrapped back around the next lower run, a very poor finish but good for my purposes as i didn't have to actually cut a finished rung! Yeah the idea for the serrations comes from another viewer here some years ago.

Great knife and great review, a friend of mine in the military used his on the field. His knife exceeded all his expectations. There was even a perforation test done by Extrema Ratio with light under amour www.extremaratio.com/test-su-protezione-balistica-sotto-camicia and light ballistic protection test www.extremaratio.com/test-su-protezione-balistica , the Fulcrum beat the all others competitors. Ditto for when it came to cutting a plate of steel www.extremaratio.com/test-estremi-di-perforazione-e-taglio Note also that N690 steel is better than many of the other steel blades sold on the market.
Hi, yes I think it is a very good stainless tool steel and often people forget this and just consider it as being a Co enhanced steel but it is of course a designated "tool steel" and as such is a great performer too for the outdoor knife manufacturer.

Personally I like the ring mount on a bayonet, when foraging some times one needs to lash ones knife to a stick temporarily and the ring helps. I often carry a bayonet myself in the woods.
Hi, yes, that's a good point although you can still do it with this model although the hole in the guard is much smaller. I guess for all those who like the idea of using a bayonet but need to overcome the legalities of using one which actually can't be easily mounted to a rifle, this is a possible option.
@@BushCampingTools oh fair enough, I hadnt thought about legality in other areas. I also know there is a ton of bad information on knife legality in many areas, even here in Canada. Just the other day I was told that double bit axes were illegal in Canada because they were dangerous. Needless to say, the fellow was very upset when I corrected him so I simply shook my head my head and walked away.
Yeah the media worldwide is to blame for all of this bad publicity and also leading to confusion about what is really legal and what isn't. I know in Australia that currently double edged type knives are illegal to bring into the country and to possess But most knife crime is committed with kitchen knives, screw drivers, chisels, safety knives and the like, easily steal-able and concealed; not by people owning costly hunting/camping knives etc. As for your encounter, well this doesn't surprise me. I know too for example in the UK they have possibly the most strict knife laws but of course they are only regarding carry, not what one can buy and one can buy legally anything almost with exception of say automatic knives. However, despite this, the knife crime is well established but the media makes it out amongst the general public, not true but confined to gangs stabbing one another or gang related. Anyone would think from the internet news reports that everyone there in the UK is running around stabbing one another left right and centre. The real culprit of course is the lack of education amongst the knife wielders where it's the thing to settle some dispute with a knife instead of one's brain. But of course tackling the lack of education( a long term serious project and big cost) in such scenarios is way way too difficult and costly for the governments LOL, NOT.

Hi thanks. I actually reviewed this model. It is a still current model from Seiko from their "Prospex" range of automatic 24 jewel diving watches (air diving only not suitable for saturation diving) Screw down crown etc. I've been wearing it from last Christmas (diving, swimming, fooling on the beach- 24 hour 7 days a week). I have to say now that I'm so used to the better accuracy of a solar quartz watch like my old Citizen diving watch (lost the bezel so no good for diving any more but the actual watch still runs perfectly for almost 17 years!). I'm thinking about giving this Seiko to my son as he is more active than me at present as there is too much computer work and I think that automatic watches are not for those kinds of occupations. This watch can also be hand wound. It was a gift from my elderly mum; in her words: " before I loose my mind I want to give you a watch" It's been bashed on rocks underwater and covered in murky sand and silt filled seawater on some work dives.

I think this is going to be my next extrema knife. I would really like to see a disassembly video. I’m trying to figure out how structurally sound the backplate is fixed to the blade and if it’s easy to disassemble in the field. I’d also like to know if the knife can be assembled with or without the finger guard like on the mk2.1 model

As to removal of the finger guard, i have yet to try this as the guar for me is very useful, however, I'm sure an appropriate spacer could be put in place. The Russian version does not have the guard as tis would then throw the knife into the class of a weapon in Russia. Hope that helps!

@@BushCampingTools going ahead and placing an order for one. Only a few minute concerns with this blade for me. I wish they would copy this design over to their fulcrum S model. A fulcrum S bayonet NFG would be nice and a much more suitable size for me, and being able to cut wire is a big plus. Also the scabbard on the S model is so much better in my opinion (I like that it covers the handle making it somewhat more discreet.) Other than that, the only true concern I have is for the pummel. I wish it had a bigger cutout so the tang nestled inside the pummel, causing less wear on the pummel screw, that’s the only thing I see on this knife that could potentially fail

Do You have Name, Link or Brand of the cords you used to mount the knife on the log?
LOL, sorry mate, I know over the years, I'm sure I've even caused marriage breakups from excessive spending on this stuff. Ok the cord i use (but not exclusively) is static climbing accessory cords, this particular brand was by the maker BEAL but I often buy Edelrid stuff too, I think the small yellow stuff on the end of the knife was from Edelrid. I'm a bit over paracord as it's too stretchy for me. Although i still use it for some things.
@@BushCampingTools Thanks! I am over paracord, since it´s okay, but its pretty bulky. Sounds stupid, but if you carry a lot of cordage and rope, sometimes it makes a difference. And there is a lot of good and lighter stuff out there.
@@johnmoder5306 Yeah too right and I know what you mean, it quickly also gets into a mess the way it's woven too and I get sick of the sheath slippage, ok I know this can have some advantages but not in my book.
Is the Swage sharp on this model?
No, it has not been sharpened. I believe the only one that has i the actual bayonet model, that's why this one is distinguished byNFG (No fixing gear) however, there's no reason why one could not do this i guess. One thing though, not having it sharpened allows it's sale in certain countries where a full on bayonet is illegal outside of the armed forces.

Are you saying that if you sharpened the swage on your knife it would be considered a bayonet even without the fixing gear?
Is any knife with a sharp swage considered a bayonet or does it have to be a certain shape?

LOL! Hey u know, I spent time repairing that fence once the video was made! Plus the first cut was on an 2 metre or so long end strand they had just (great for me) lazily wrapped back around the next lower run, a very poor finish but good for my purposes as i didn't have to actually cut a finished rung! Yeah the idea for the serrations comes from another viewer here some years ago.

Hi, LOL, as I type this i was just about to throw it in my rucksac for a little "covert fishing trip". But yes I do but only when I'm away from everyone else. You will see it again here when i get a chance to film it. it's a simple design and it works well and easy to maintain.
BTW I should have said it serves as both knife and club for fishing trips, due to its weight and rigidity.

Their website says 295 Euro's, I found a Canadian site for 579 Canadian dollars. remember the list price on their site is going to be the highest, some internet sellers will have it slightly cheaper. beware there are countless fakes out there.

Hi, yes i can do this and will look into it. In the coming months (as a preview here to u and whoever reads this comment LOL) I'll be featuring much smaller knife formats more suitable to day hikes and even for serious picnics and a lot less visible, as this beast which is really only going to be at home "away" from the public view.

Great knife and great review, a friend of mine in the military used his on the field. His knife exceeded all his expectations. There was even a perforation test done by Extrema Ratio with light under amour www.extremaratio.com/test-su-protezione-balistica-sotto-camicia and light ballistic protection test www.extremaratio.com/test-su-protezione-balistica , the Fulcrum beat the all others competitors. Ditto for when it came to cutting a plate of steel www.extremaratio.com/test-estremi-di-perforazione-e-taglio Note also that N690 steel is better than many of the other steel blades sold on the market.
Hi, yes I think it is a very good stainless tool steel and often people forget this and just consider it as being a Co enhanced steel but it is of course a designated "tool steel" and as such is a great performer too for the outdoor knife manufacturer.

Russian bayonet(red ) for AK is much better .
I've seen that bayonet and it does indeed look very good.
