You giving our years-long experience with exams in such brief, straight way to our junior colleagues is very kind and generous of you Khalid. I really miss you my friend 🌹
Thank you. As this video is titled “Acing the step 3”, I would have appreciated if you have mentioned your score also so anyone can correlate advice with the score.
I scored > 230 thankfully. I don’t necessarily agree that the score can be correlated with the advice. There is a wide standard deviation (as mentioned on the official score report) if you were to theoretically repeat the exam. Regardless, you asked for a score. so here it is. 😇
It depends on your background and free time. Some pass with around 2-3 weeks of serious studying. Some may feel more comfortable with 1-2 months of studying. Personally, I had a good foundation of step 1 and step 2 and biostats, so I spent a little short of a month of studying. Bear in mind that because I did the exam prior to starting residency, I had much more free time everyday to study. I hope this answer helps.
Hello, you can apply without step 3. If you want an H-1 visa, certain programs have certain deadlines for when you can submit the score. The earliest I have seen in my experience was December.
Hello Khalid, I tried many times to download your anki deck but unfortunately every time saying the file unsupported to be downloaded even I have Anki, so please can make it as a pdf and then I can get it from you .., please
Hello, I’m sorry you’re having trouble with downloading the Anki deck. I can’t turn it to a PDF file because the formatting is vastly different. Moreover, the link and download work fine with me at the the time of making this comment. So, please revisit any alternate solutions from your end if possible.
Hello, I am a foreign medical graduate applying for usmle, can you please tell me that, do we have to complete residency in our home country to apply for the step 3 examinations? is this a criteria? Also if I am planning to give my exams after 2 months from now, when should I be applying for the step 3 exams? Do we get a block within 2 months of application?
The step 3 exam does not need to be completed prior to residency. IMGs have the fortune of being able to choose to do it before or during their residency. I believe you need to have graduated medical school and have completed Step 1 and 2 in order to apply for the exam.
Based on what I know, the STEP 3 is not a super important primary metric for fellowship applications. Ultimately, it's always good to have a score that is close to the mean or ideally above mean, but I would say to just work with what you have and focus on getting a more complete application that will help you succeed in attaining your targeted specialty.

Thank you very much. How long does it usually take to prepare for the step 3? Including all the study resources u mentioned

@@Khalemedic Thank you so much.
If i may, where can i find the deadline for each program?
@@cr7usman It is usually listed on each program’s website.

How much time is required to prepare for step 3
And two rounds of uw are required?
It took me 1.5 months. I only did one round of uworld. I think two rounds are overkill to be honest.
Hi Khaled! I just got through step 3 before applying for residency but couldn’t get my desired score. Is it okay if you score below mean?

Thank you Khalid, you are the best, please contact you privately, I am about to take my step 3
