"Dark night of the scarecrow" was fantastic, creepy and scary..To think it was a "Made-For-TV" movie just blows me a way (Premiered October 24, 1981 on CBS)...and "Madman" Marz...another great slasher film a la "Friday the 13th"-style! 2 classics in my humble opinion indeed! Stay safe and take care!📼📀📼📀📼
I didn't know this list existed, nor that I needed it until now. Thank you! Some of these I have seen within the past year and the others I was wavering, not any more.
I LOVE all these movies!!!!! I didn't realize 1981 was such an awesome year for some amazing slasher flicks. Holy fricks!!! Great video Lee. Totally enjoying these movies again from the dark corner of my room...

Wow I thought I was alone on this. 1981 was truly just an excellent year for horror. You should also check out Graduation Day, Night School, and Student Bodies which also came out in 81!
Great video over the greatest year in horror. The 80s were a Renaissance for horror films. My favorites are An American Werewolf in London, Halloween II, Evil Dead, The Howling, and Friday the 13th Part II.
You know what movie did not get mentioned? Lucio Fulci’s House by the Cemetery. That was an absolutely great horror film! If you have never seen it, I recommend it.
The Prowler is available on Amazon prime. I watched it last month. I liked it, especially the 1940’s opening which was different from most slasher films
I was watching In Search of Darkness earlier this week, and a lot of the points you made regarding 1981 were brought up there, along more expansive details from the interviewees. So I glad I bought that. My list is: 1. An American Werewolf in London 2. The Evil Dead 3. Halloween II 4. The Howling 5. The Prowler 6. Friday the 13th Part 2 7. Scanners 8. Cannibal Ferox 9. My Bloody Valentine 10. The Entity
It was tough, but here's my Top 10 of 1981 - An American Werewolf in London, The Evil Dead, The Howling, My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th Part 2, The Burning, Halloween II, Hell Night, Happy Birthday to Me, Ghost Story. Honourable mentions go to The Funhouse, Dark Night of the Scarecrow and The Prowler. Great year!
I wasn't sure if Evil Dead was going to make it. Lol. This was a great video. 1981 is the best year in horror. You have all the classics here. I absolutely love both Halloween II & Friday the 13th 2. Kinda sad Howling didnt make it but you gave it a mention. Of course The Prowler & The Burning are classic slasher. The Beyond is Fulci's masterpiece I would say artistically.
I love 80s horror. Best decade for horror. I love your top 10. I haven't seen all of them. I will look out for the ones I have not see. I did see American werewolf in London and I have the Halloween movies as well as the evil dead movies on dvd. Love Halloween 2 and evil dead. Thanks for the list. I will look out for the ones I didn't see.
Hell gate, Anerican werewolf (haven’t seen all the way through) and some of the honorable mentions need to see. And my oh my - can’t thank you enough for that shoutout for Halloween Night during the Halloween II ranking! Nice surprise there thank you, sir! 🎃🙏
@@themadrapper101 not really because a renaissance is a bridge between an old era and a modern era so I'd agree from Halloween to 1984 / 5 is about right after that there was alot less original horror flicks
I love how you said 78, my 2 favourite horror films were released then. One was Damien: Omen 2, and my favourite movie of all time, what's it's name again? What's that thing called at the end of October?😄😄😄
I love the 80s, what a time of good horror content, especially like the classic the burning Halloween and Freddy man, loves especially the prowler, hey Drum check out the granny 1995 it’s a must see. Good review bye the way
The 80s was the best era for horror in general IMO. For a long time, Halloween II was the end of the series for me, even if I enjoyed some of the others. That ending was perfect for Myers. 2018 blew it out of the water, but Halloween II is still my favorite original sequel. Hellraiser 1 and 2 are also really excellent 80s horror movies, especially the second. Lot of good stuff in the 80s. =)
Great list!! The 80’s by far was the best decade. I wasn’t that old in 81, but I just remember seeing so many movies from that year. My parents were huge horror fans so we got to watch them all on the sneak. They used to have a lot of double features at the drive in and they would play horror movies just about every weekend. My parents always thought we were asleep..... I would have put Madhouse and Funhouse in my top 10 though and The Burning would be way higher in my list. I have so many honorable mentions. I like Scanners, Madman, Final Exam and Night School... But my favorite is of course Evil Dead. It scared the shit out of me and I had to sleep with the lights on for months.
I was so hoping that 'Evil Dead' was number 1, and rightfully so it was. I personally would've had to include 'Dark Night of the Scarecrow' and 'Ghost Story' on my list. Kinda surprised you didn't mention those two. Both of them are FANTASTIC!!!! Lee, I would love to see further videos like this covering each year of the 80's, since in my opinion, the 80's were the best decade for horror. (With the 70's a very close 2nd.). Great job buddy and I'm looking forward to seeing more vids from you.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Greatest 'made for television' horror film ever made in many fan's opinion, including mine. Definitely check it out again soon. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Quantity over Quality...I love 1980 way more than '81, which I admit does have several cool entries like the ones you mentioned (Halloween II leading the pack) but there was something powerful and groundbreaking about the smaller batch of 1980 horrors that sets them apart from other years: The Shining, The Changeling, The Fog, Prom Night, Terror Train, Friday The 13th, Dressed To Kill...and even Oscar-nominated genre films like The Elephant Man and Resurrection!
Motel Hell was one of the best horror movies of 1980 and it was the year I was born. Great year for horror, some of the best and "It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters!"
Your list was killer kool though: Halloween II, Happy Birthday To Me, The Funhouse, Hell Night, The Burning, The Howling, Friday The 13th-Part 2...and I also loved Ghost Story, Road Games and the Brian DePalma psychological thriller Blow Out! (which towers above the others alongside Halloween II)!
Great list! Evil Dead is my favorite horror movie of all time, and An American Werewolf in London and The Beyond are also in my top 10 of all time. Your mention of Sam Raimi going from such a gory splatter movie like Evil Dead to Spider Man is like Peter Jackson going from Dead Alive (possibly the goriest movie of all time) to Lord of the Rings. Btw I'm still looking forward to you watching and reviewing City of the Living Dead.
Fantastic List Lee Not Surprise Evil Dead Is Number It Was The Best Horror Of That Year And Your Right About Halloween 2 The Climax Is The Best Of The Free
Drumdums I love your list! 1981 was for horror what 1982 was for science fiction cinema, in the 80s decade. So many of these movies were staples of sleepovers where we would rent a VHS or if we were lucky someone would actually have cable TV! I just have to comment on one film, all of them I love, but Friday the 13th part 2 really was the best part 2 of all the horror franchises(if I am saying that correctly). I think it was so highly anticipated because of the ending of part 1 and the mystery of Jason Voorhees, also it is pre super human deadite zombie Jason. Not putting it above Halloween 2 by much as far as sequels, because we were all left with a cliff hanger at the end of H1, but we had all seen Michael Myers, no one had seen Jason yet. Glad you did this video I think this October we are going to make the theme of our décor 1981! Staff safe all, stay home rewatch these movies. Thanks for the video!
Oh Lee I almost forgot but have you ever heard of a film called SILENT RAGE ? It came out in 1982 I mostly remember being stunned because it starred Chuck Norris & I’d never seen him in that type of movie The description describes it as action/horror It’s not very bloody or anything ( in that sense it reminds me of Carpenter’s original Halloween) But the kills are pretty good & lots of karate fight scenes & the Barney Fife type deputy had me on the floor laughing
I saw that movie on HBO many many years ago. With that creepy music, I was scared shitless. I forgot about that movie even though I have a copy of it. I think I'm gonna pull that out since I'm stuck at home.
Nice list Lee I guess it never occurred to me how many great horror films came out in ‘81 But I guess in a sense I’m not your traditional horror fan I don’t pay attention to particular directors or special effects people etc Anyway even your honorable mentions are great as well I don’t know if it occurred to anyone but me BUT have you noticed the reveal faces for the killers in The Funhouse & The Burning look very similar to Jason Reveal Faces in later Friday films.....hhhmmmm Oh & just my opinion but I feel like The Howling deserved a spot on your top 10 It’s a fantastic movie in every sense of the word & the special effects are Too Notch
1981 is definitely one of the best years in horror, especially with slashers (my favorite being The Burning) and werewolf films (my favorite being An American Werewolf in London). Then you had The Evil Dead... whoa! I happily saw many of these in the theater, but am dismayed by how many great ones I didn't see in the theater.
Evilspeak....House By the Cemetery.... Wolfen.....Nightmares in a Damaged Brain....Final Exam....Dark Night of the Scarecrow....Dead and Buried.....even some of the lesser known horror movies from this year are worth a look.
There's some other good years you should take a crack at, Lee! I think subscribers would love more of these....just a thought...Really enjoyed this countdown! Thanks...
There's some movies there that I need to watch. An American warewolf in London is the first horror movie I remember to have watch in the theater with my dad, but The Howling is my favorite out of the two.
Great list. Disagree with that specific year being the best in horror, but all the movies you pickes are pretty rad. Anyways. First time viewer, new subscriber. Have you ever ranked Halloween or Friday the 13th in order of your favorites?
This was a great year for horror films. An American Werewolf in London is my favorite movie of all time. Happy Birthday to me was great for the twist ending and Friday the 13th part 2 is the best of the series in my opinion. Another of my favorites from 1981 is Wolfen
Great video, Lee. Universal push Carpenter into making Halloween 2. They had acquired the rights, and wanted a sequel. Basically, it was the only way he would get to make The Thing. So, he agreed to write and produce Halloween 2. Also, it was Carpenter who put in all the gore in the film. He thought Rosenthal's cut was tame compared the horror film being released at the time. Anyway.. My favorite 1981 horror film are The Burning, Halloween 2, Madman, The Prowler, and My Bloody Valentine.
Such a great year here's my top 15 6-15 can change year to year 15) the entity 14) dead and buried 13) the howling 12) hell night 11) just before dawn 10) halloween 2 9) the prowler 8) happy birthday to me 7) the beyond 6) the burning 5) my bloody Valentine 4) American werewolf in London 3) Friday the 13th part 2 2) the funhouse 1) evil dead

2. The Evil Dead
3. Halloween II
4. The Howling
5. The Prowler
6. Friday the 13th Part 2
7. Scanners
8. Cannibal Ferox
9. My Bloody Valentine
10. The Entity
George Heilman I still need to check out that documentary. Looks really good.
Loved it, what a year and hard to argue with that top 10
It was tough, but here's my Top 10 of 1981 - An American Werewolf in London, The Evil Dead, The Howling, My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th Part 2, The Burning, Halloween II, Hell Night, Happy Birthday to Me, Ghost Story. Honourable mentions go to The Funhouse, Dark Night of the Scarecrow and The Prowler. Great year!
81 was a great year indeed. There are a couple on your list I have not even heard of, so thanks for the recommendations.
The Evil Dead is my favorite of that trilogy.
LOVE. YOUR. SHIRT! 🤘🏻
Thank you!
3) The Beyond
2) The Evil Dead
1) An American Werewolf In London
The year 1981 was truly outstanding for Horror Films !!!
This was so good. Can't wait to rewatch these.
Thank you Sarah!
I am so glad that The Evil Dead was number one on your list my favourite film of all time great video!!
Yeah it's one of the most important horror films for sure.
Facts you'll never learn in history class: the great horror movie renaissance took place from 1978 - 1984 ☠💀👹😈👾👽🤖🕷🍿🎃🎟
1985-1989 too..
Good stuff. The evil dead, halloween2,friday the13th2 would be my favorites out of the bunch in no particular order
Great job buddy and I'm looking forward to seeing more vids from you.
cyberray1976 I saw a dark night of the scarecrow when I was really really young. So I don’t remember it at all. Definitely want to check it out again.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Greatest 'made for television' horror film ever made in many fan's opinion, including mine. Definitely check it out again soon. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
You always put together an awesome lists of movies Lee.
🎬🎥😎💯
Daniel Chavez Thank you Daniel! 👏
Yeah 80 was a super solid year too. For sure.
Motel Hell was one of the best horror movies of 1980 and it was the year I was born. Great year for horror, some of the best and "It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters!"
Great list. Love this video. Man the 80s were awesome for horror.
Dead and buried a great one as well - great choices 👍
1981 was the best year for horror movies didn't see House By The Cemetery on the list Great review Lee!!!
Thanks Paul. I still need to see that one.
I gotta agree with your list. Awesome horror flicks.
Thank you Theodore. I strongly remember having sleepovers in the early 80s and watching horror movie. Good times.
Oh Lee I almost forgot but have you ever heard of a film called SILENT RAGE ?
It came out in 1982
I mostly remember being stunned because it starred Chuck Norris & I’d never seen him in that type of movie
The description describes it as action/horror
It’s not very bloody or anything ( in that sense it reminds me of Carpenter’s original Halloween)
But the kills are pretty good & lots of karate fight scenes & the Barney Fife type deputy had me on the floor laughing
Carter Oh yes I love silent rage. Haven’t seen in years. Definitely going to pick it up and review it. Chuck Norris versus Michael Myers.
Drumdums that would be amazing & by the way it plays on TUBI
I saw that movie on HBO many many years ago. With that creepy music, I was scared shitless. I forgot about that movie even though I have a copy of it. I think I'm gonna pull that out since I'm stuck at home.
Nice list Lee
I guess it never occurred to me how many great horror films came out in ‘81
But I guess in a sense I’m not your traditional horror fan I don’t pay attention to particular directors or special effects people etc
Anyway even your honorable mentions are great as well
I don’t know if it occurred to anyone but me
BUT have you noticed the reveal faces for the killers in The Funhouse & The Burning look very similar to
Jason Reveal Faces in later Friday films.....hhhmmmm
Oh & just my opinion but I feel like The Howling deserved a spot on your top 10
It’s a fantastic movie in every sense of the word & the special effects are Too Notch
The Howling is my number one movie for 1981. Werewolf in London would be in my top 10 but I've had a soft spot for Howling.
Always thought 81 was the best year for horror especially slashers, great vid
1981 is definitely one of the best years in horror, especially with slashers (my favorite being The Burning) and werewolf films (my favorite being An American Werewolf in London). Then you had The Evil Dead... whoa! I happily saw many of these in the theater, but am dismayed by how many great ones I didn't see in the theater.
Yeah it was a magical time.
Evilspeak....House By the Cemetery.... Wolfen.....Nightmares in a Damaged Brain....Final Exam....Dark Night of the Scarecrow....Dead and Buried.....even some of the lesser known horror movies from this year are worth a look.
Great list. You should do something like this for other years. It could be interesting.
There's some other good years you should take a crack at, Lee! I think subscribers would love more of these....just a thought...Really enjoyed this countdown! Thanks...
Thanks Shawn. I've been meaning to cover more of the years of the 80s. Definitely happening.
There's some movies there that I need to watch. An American warewolf in London is the first horror movie I remember to have watch in the theater with my dad, but The Howling is my favorite out of the two.
Great list. Also for honorable mentions Friday the 13th Part 2, Ghost Story, The Hand, Scanners and Dead & Buried.
David Chisholm Friday part 2 was on the list.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Sorry I missed that one it was on your list.
Good Picks! ... 80's horror movies just feel different to me... better in most cases, but definitely different!
Agreed!
My fave Tom Adkins one liners "Thrill Me". From Night of the Creeps.
Best video ever keep up the good work
Great video, Lee.
Amercan werewolf in London is my fave of 1981.
Stay safe + positive thoughts from the U.K 😁
You too Chantel!
Check out a 1981 horror film "Ghost Story" with Craig Wasson from Nightmare On Elm Street 3 and the lady who played the Borg Queen
Alice Krige was also in "Sleepwalkers".
