This song is about PTSD. That's what they mean by the enemy inside. The actual video will show some examples of someone that has PTSD and what they go through.
I feel ya on this reaction. I've been a DT fan since i was a kid. Dream theater has a wide variety of "genres" in their progressive rock/metal, so a lot of people hear 1 or 2 songs on an album (Images and words, Falling into infinity albums) and write them off as not for them, while if you look at the next album, it's usually completely different. Either way though, glad you guys gave them a chance, and if you want more Variety, i'd Recommend "Hell's Kitchen", "Scarred", "Lines in the Sand" for my recommend songs,."Pull me Under", "Panic Attack", and "As i am" for their more commercial songs. "The Glass Prison" and "In the Presence of Enemies PT 1 & 2" for their heavier stuff. Either way, good video guys.
No emotions to the MUSIC at all ... just puzzling the meaning of the pictures ....
Dudes, check out El Estepario Siberiano's drum cover..
"Their Playing their butts off"
not really. this is nothing compared to what they can do on a regular basis. except the drums. the drums is exceptionally hard. but the rest is not so much compared to their full abilities
we need more Dream Theater! Metropolis pt 1 or octavarium!
Change of seasons is my favourite you should react to. Have a nice day sir .
"He couldn't get into area 51" LUL
Really, really old? H ha ha ha ha. I love listening to my fave music through other peoples ears so much
I don't blame you for not liking the singer's (James LaBrie) voice. He is probably the most divisive part of the band.
The type of nasally singing that LaBrie uses is for him to not damage his voice; he used to have a much better voice. Due to bad technique, overuse, and a vocal cord rupture in the 90s, he just isn't able to be as good as he once was. For me, it very much was a grower.
I can't speak nearly as much on the rest of the band, but they are all legendary in their own right.
I'd definitely recommend you listen to some of their older work if you aren't a fan of this type of vocals. I'll give you a good amount of songs that may be interesting:
- The Twelve-Step Suite (A collection of 5 songs from 2002 to 2009 that describe the then-drummer's alcohol addiction. You can really tell the evolution of his voice through the years in these as well. The songs in the suite are: The Glass Prison [14 minutes], This Dying Soul [11 minutes], The Root Of All Evil [8 minutes], Repentance [10 minutes], and The Shattered Fortress [13 minutes])
- Under A Glass Moon (A 7-minute relatively heavy song that shows LaBrie at his peak, in terms of vocal ability.)
- Metropolis Part 1 (A 9-minute... song. Not gonna lie, it's kinda all over the place, so I'm not sure how much you'll like it. Fantastic song, though.)
- Metropolis Part 2 (Kinda cheating, since this is a full album, but it's my all-time favorite album, so I gotta mention it. It's meant to be listened through all the way, and it's full of [imo] the band's best material.)
- Lifting Shadows Off A Dream (A somber 6-minute song that is one of their more underrated tracks.)
- Sacrificed Sons (A 10-minute track that starts off pretty mellow, but kicks into one of the best instrumental sections they have.)
Sorry for the long-ass comment, but I love talking about my favorite band, and even more when new people are trying to get into it! I appreciate Ibe's honesty, it helped narrow down to some songs that he may like. And thanks to Xeph for introducing him to DT! Much love to ya both!
Appreciate the detailed insight both of us are musicians as well so i definitely agree with and will be going over older stuff eventually Friction is beginning to do his own research now which is great and definitely will be taking recommendations so I'll add em to the list for the future 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
No, really came out in late 80’s early 90’s. Great job though!
85 to be exact but close enough lol
Mike Potnoy is a legend drummer I wish he would be on Dream Theater again kinda sad.
But Mangini is a different type of monster I like him better than Potnoy as a musician.
@puteraslayer, please move on man. DT exist with Mangini now.
Plus Mangini is a monster on his crazy kit I prefer him over Potnoy personally
Please react Dream Theater Illumination Theory live on Boston
This is not the video RUclips wants you to see
