I graduated from MSU in Dec. 1963, so it's been almost sixty years since listening to this great band in person, and it's still a thrill to hear them again.
Visiting bands at Spartan Stadium were usually field level in that top left corner where the band comes out. But I think too many players crashing into band members and fracas during post game celebrations caused the move to the upper deck.
There was something in the paper about it... Too much going on during the pregame with both fox and ESPN on the field. They had to extend the area for where the teams could stand 5 yards both ways. Typically box stops at 25 but went to the 20 because of all the stuff going on in the stadium, there was not enough space.
@@foreverimaspartan9982 I was thinking Michigan and Michigan State moving to bands to the upper bowl or upper deck was due to covid protocols this year. Either that or they are pulling a Notre Dame, since they no longer offer visiting teams' bands pregame like they used to and the visiting band sits in the upper bowl at Notre Dame stadium. I get all the home field advantage stuff, but I think it's been tradition for like 80 years and to see it go away is kinda sad. Ohio State won't be happy about it either. The SEC actually has a conference by-law that you have to give at least 5k seats to the visiting team, 2k of those 5k seats must be in the lower bowl, and the visiting team can choose where to put their band from their own allotment(you can't force them to sit in the upper deck.)
Spartans play Victors better than U of M!!!! LOL!!!
Sounds great!! Love the extended ending of the last fight song-Seems apropos.
Lol the guy yelling can you slow down please during the national anthem haha

I love the Big Ten Flags! I hope I get the chance to audition in a few years!
Boo to the victims, we played it terribly too GO GREEEEEEEN!!
I think it’s kind of sh**ty that schools started this trend of putting visiting teams band way up at the top. (I know Michigan does the same thing).

10 years ago when I was in SMB, the MMB was field level during the game. We were also field-level when we visited ND.

Thing with michigan is, we don't have an upper balcony, it's all just a giant bowl so it doesn't feel quite as seperated.

Big ups to the MSU Marching Band for playing “The Victors” I thought that was very classy. #Goblue
They play the opposing teams fight song at every game.
