Pellet Smoker Exhaust Modification - BIGGER IS BETTER!

- This pellet smoker exhaust modification for your Traeger or other pellet smoker and grill will give your rig a whole new attitude! Not only does this vent those hot gasses away from your face while your cooking, but it improves the efficiency of your smoker by increasing the scavenging affect of your smoke chamber. I found this increased the temperature of my 'Lil Tex Pro Traeger's "High" temperature setting by almost 20 degrees when used with properly dried pellets and a clean machine. Enjoy!

Hey Todd! You did it again....called it a Yoder! :-) I can appreciate your Metal Skills.....not everyone is handy. Yes it fit together like it was meant to be....almost too easy of a Mod!
I'm fascinated and interested in what your findings will be with this Mod. Like You mentioned......a pellet grill is a forced air design......will this make a difference?
I need to know because I'll be the first to add that stack to My Lil Tex! Oh....wait.......I sold it. :-( Cool stuff Bro!........I can't wait for the results! Metal On!!! \m/
Thanks for watching bro! It increases max temp on High setting, I saw 450 almost. I will do a results video someday soon.
@@GreenhornBBQbeer We want this followup!
@@ZackPyle thanks for the reminder. I've included that in various videos whenever using it. But you are right, I have never made a special video just about that. Maybe I should?
@@GreenhornBBQbeer I'm building an outdoor kitchen and thinking about doing a vent up to the porch roof line. Interested in any effects you've seen!
@@GreenhornBBQbeer Also check out the DuraVent PelletVent stuff on Home Depot's site
For those of you who are going to duplicate this don’t use gas vent USE PELLET VENT INSTEAD reason being the pellet vent is stainless steel! WHEN you heat up galvanized metal it puts off dangerous vapors that are NOT good to breathe!
AND The taller vent stack will create a better draft through the fire therefore you may find your temperatures are higher than normal just have to compensate and that’s exactly what I wanna do to my green mountain grill because I can’t seem to get enough heat out of it!
Be careful doing any mod. However the gas vent pipe he used is the same as what is use in most homes for your furnace and water heater.
Ps. The make a cap for that vent that you could use to top it off
lol.... nice tall mod. after doing some Chicken on my pellet I became a huge fan. best chicken i ever made. thanks for the mod.
Thanks bro, yeah, gotta love a pellet grill for when they are most useful! Cheers for watching!
Cool mod! The only thing I've done to my Traeger so far is changed the small grease bucket to a large ice bucket so I don't have to empty it as often.
Try this out bro
Quad zero is called 4 OT. Nice mod!!! Now get a diesel truck exhaust flapper and put it on top.
Nathan gave me one for the Yoder smoker mod I just did, go check it out...
The best tool was the beer. Good work Todd👍👍
Thank you!
Great idea with vent pipe mod .. Looks really cool ... Great Job
Thanks John!
Awesome mod bro. Great thinking my friend. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching bro!
What an awesome mod.. Would love to see future cooks on it.
Thanks Joe! The Stuffed Meatloaf video was actually done after this mod but nobody noticed! Lol
@@GreenhornBBQbeer I'm going to go back and check that video out.. I'm pretty sure I saw something different but I don't own a pellet grill as of yet.. You got sneaky on us lol..
Cool mod, Todd. I especially like the idea of the double wall pipe. The outer wall should shield the inner from cooling from the wind. I think keeping the inner wall hot will create a better air draw throughout the unit, promoting higher maximum temperatures? If this is the case, I hope you will give us an update in the near future. It definitely added some “coolness” to your pit. 😎 👍
You are right again! The High temperature setting gets way up there now. I do want to do a comparison soon and see what I get. I may have to take that stack off for the "before" but so be it...
Hey! 2 inches is enough right? Lol You might have to put a light on the top so planes dont run into it. 😁 Cool mod to keep the smoke out of your face. I usually tilt my Yoder stack back if the smoke blows in my face .
Thanks bro! Yeah, I need lights, next mod! I did it more for the bigger is better theory but I know what you mean...
That’s pretty slick.
Its is!thanks for che king it out!
Lower your stack outlet to grate level, not as much hot air will escape.
i just modified my green mountain grill using the same furnace pipe , went one step further and attached a 3 foot flex pipe to go around and over the awning that is over the bbq. I havent tried it yet for draw issues but will drill some vent holes if the draw is to much
There is a ratio where you can have too much draw so test it out..
Todd what size of pipe did you use. I have a Gmg Daniel Boone too
Good idea ! Thanks for sharing !
Thank you for watching!
Bigger chimney means more air will be sucked out faster, or smoke in this case
Very well done.
Taps for self tapping screws and didnt even bother removing the sticker before paint. 🤣
Eitherway, been thinking about this mod for my grill…
The nerve right?
I have a pit boss 540 and I want just the short attack with the cap. Plug the majority of the holes and be able to contain the majority of the smoke as I'm not liking how little smoke taste I'm getting. IAM using good pellets and my smoker has and endless supply of smoke but I feel it's leaking out and it's not able to stay in the area of the meat. If anyone disagrees with this idea please let me know why and if you know of a better solution. Thank you
What do you do for the smoke lost around the door ? Thanks for the video
Hi, thanks for watching. Good question, right now nothing, but I've got several ideas and I'm not settled on either one yet. What say you?
Hey Jim, I thought I was having the same issue as well, it over time and heavy use, the seasoning inside the smoker has built up around the inside edge of the door and hardly has any bleed out of smoke anymore. I do clean my smoker after every use, but I avoid cleaning the built up seasoning around the inside Edge of the door. Hope that helps sir.
Let's see some Smoke
Yup, stay tuned brother!
Great job on the smoke stack extension. Where did you find the gas exhaust pipe extension you used?
Lowe's hardware store and also available online.
Honey do you have a Mod in mind for the Yoder? Love you 😘 honey, good video babe but why didn’t you paint that stack before you added it. And are you hinting that you want something new?
My new Traeger doesn’t really smoke unless it’s like 120-180f. I am wondering how to smoke at 250.
It should smoke at all temps. The auger cycles and smoke is not constant. But you don't want to see the smoke anyway, not on a real smoker. It should be more of a blue transparent color. But pellet grills make these "puffs" now and then. Just have to get used to it.
GreenhornBBQbeer yeah Traeger responded to me about this on RUclips. I guess they recommend mesquite and 130-180 for smoking. I did a pork butt but it just tasted roasted like in an oven.
I use a pellet tube smoker in addition to it. Its cheap, and will last about 4 hrs. Very efficient use of pellets if you think you need extra smoke. Amazon.com

Can I do this with the pitboss 1150
You could experiment
Did the grill temp get hotter compared to the regular stack?
Yes
You know you shouldn't be using galvanized anything with food, especially when heated up, it releases toxic poisonous fumes. Should be using regular carbon steel tubing.
Well it is a exhaust stack, one way only.... but I see what you mean.
