Hua explained that he believes that each of us - like him - has different personalities within ourselves that we are able to switch, interchange according to situations we face and the psychological conditions we are in. These changes help us survive mentally and if we are stuck playing any one of one's various personalities for too long then we may need help. The personalities he presented can be considered as phases of any person's life - child, teenager, young adult, full adult - seeking for answers to questions, seeking for whatever makes one whole. The last line before the screech "Like a puzzle I have lost a piece, with such glaring blankness endlessly ruing till I have completely lost myself" was profound...wait...the whole song was deep. To enjoy this song, one must sit down quietly, listen and contemplate. Some fans actually did a detailed analysis of the lyrics somewhere.....but Hua is the type to not put it in concrete as he said everyone would have their own imagery and life experiences to interpret the song accordingly. This song - Seven Personalities - is a prequel to his trilogy of songs written to bring depression out of the dark to be discussed without the fear of stigma or shame. The trilogy of songs are: "I Really Want to Love This World" followed by "Madhouse" and ending with "Conversations with Martian Children". He admitted to suffering bouts of depression and had thought of jumping off his high-rise apartment balcony, thank God and the Lord of all Lords that he snapped out of it. The songs mentioned are in his newly released 4th album "New World" which also includes another set of songs on how human behaviours affect our environment, our spirituality, our humanity: "Bullfighting", "God Tree", "The Arrival" and "New World". Hua Chenyu breaks through his limits to present the composition made up of seven genres, seven tones, seven atmospheres that brings to listeners seven powerful experiences in the span of a single song. once again broke through himself, showing the atmosphere of the tone, and experienced seven extreme lives with seven genres and seven sounds. "Under the immense heaven and earth, specks of dust are born." Fate is a series of misleading veils and dead ends, but the flower blooms at the whim of a will that never falters and eyes that only see the truth.
Hahaha Dave, your face in the beginning was priceless... About the lyrics, yes there's a lot of symbolisms from buddhism and taoism. In this song, Hua is facing a strong adversity, he would like to take it according to his religion, calmly and reflectively, but the anger is building despite his will and he's trying to keep it at bay in vain, leading to the "crazy" screams in the end. It's also the way he's facing this situation according to the different personalities we all have within. Hua definitely keeps our interests to see what he comes up with his next compositions. Always creative beyond our expectations and his performances on Singer 2020 proves it. Though I like his concert versions better, just because he is more at ease expressing his songs more freely, as if its not enough on Singer 2020 - lol. You are right he's not after the "hook" on this one. It's more about artistic interpretation - loved it.

His composition process for this one was really weird... He claims to be a recovered split-personality case, so what he did was to exacerbate each "personality" of his, compose whatever melody popped in his head, then pull it back. Then get his lyricist to write about each of them, then tell his arranger "Make a coherent song with this". And that's supposed to picture how he had to put himself together. It doesn't make for radio material... But it's interesting!
