What was the point of this bravery? It only made things worse. Harry S. Truman, the future President of the United States, said in 1941: If we see that Germany is winning the war, we ought
to help Russia; and if that Russia is winning, we ought to help Germany, and in
that way let them kill as many as possible.
Truman was right. Soviet Socialism and National Socialism were both genocidal, aggressive, and
dangerous. Instead of USA exhausting itself by fighting
one of the two monsters, it could have left the two monsters to fight each
other. If Truman had his way, whichever of the two totalitarian states won would have been weakened
and therefore less dangerous and less able to take over Europe after the war. However, the
war between the two totalitarian states, USSR and National Socialist Germany, was shortened as the West got involved early on (just as Stalin wanted). Thanks to this, the war between National
Socialism and Soviet Socialism did not drag on into 1946 and the Soviet Union did
not emerge so exhausted as to be less dangerous. What USA effectively did
was to do some of the Soviets’ job, to expend American blood and American treasure
in order to preserve Soviet blood and Soviet treasure. This made sure the USSR as
more dangerous after WWII, capable of waging a Cold War and to threaten the
West with a ‘hot’ one. In a sense, the American government served Soviet
interests better than its own.

Japan attacked, then Hitler declared war on the USA. Its not like we could pussy foot around and 'help' the Germans and then 'help' the Russians. It doesnt work like that.
