Demertzis explains that while the digital Euro might not immediately get hearts racing, its future introduction might make an impact, including on the geopolitical level.

interesting, thanks for posting! while I understand the focus on wholesale use, let me ask 1 question rgd retail use of a CBDC EUR: does that aim to provide the same level of anonymity (in use) and sovereignity (for use, from a user/consumer PoV) as cash? if not, how is it going to compete with existing digital money solutions that provide that - which of course lack the direct central bank backed feature, which is of course also a crucial one. IOW, will the game be "anonymity + sovereignity" vs "central bank backed"?

The multipolar world is in fact going to be a multicurrency world. Very interesting.

The fact that the dollar is being used for geopolitical ends is exactly why it falters.
Whatever replaces it must be different in this regard.
The only way to gain grounds is to underpin the currency with regulation that limits or decentralizes power over it.

No to "digital Euro". No to Big Brother. Cash is king, and this authoritarian power grab will be resisted at all costs. We had GDPR legislation passed in the EU for good reason, don't you dare attempt to revoke it.

Cash is used to cheat on paying taxes and for all kinds of criminal transactions and that's why it would be good if it disappeared forever!

Is she saying a digital euro will allow sanctioned players to circumvent sanctions?

If they develop their own CBDC's, yes they can (much more easy)

Wow, "trickle down," don't know if this is good or bad, but everything this person says is just the wrong language.
