- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice PPV. Based on the Holden Caprice platform, it has been brought over to the states for use in law enforcement. This car at this time is not available for civilian purchase. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
In Middle East this car has different version
1-LS version (the cheapest)
2-LTZ version (alot of options added)
3-SS version (The sport version the same as the LTZ but Bodykit added)
4-Royale version (this version is all about luxury exterior and interior with exterior details added to make it looks more luxurious and its the most expensive version of the Chevrolet caprice)

Am i the only one who would rather have this instead of a Charger?
Not you only... I personaly own one. Also i own a 300c. My friend is going to get his own Caprice BUT he wants to purchase the SS model of it. The Caprice SS is the same but with sport bodykit and spoiler.
Nope I prefer this 1 aswell
@@the-expertstreetb-racer5832 There is no Caprice SS. You can buy a Chevy SS which is essentially a completely different car built on the standard Camaro chassis. This car is a Holden-built car on a stretched Camaro chassis.
I like this Caprice over the Charger all day long. Bigger car with a better ride.
@@stuartstogdill2406 the Caprice and SS are the same car from the same platform and factory from Australia. Expect the Caprice has about a 7 inch longer wheelbase compared to the SS
I'm really annoyed that GM only sells this car as a police car, and not for the mass market.
That's cause GM sucks and doesn't sell cars that people want.
Eventually you can get one when the popos done with it. But I heard they gone destroy em when they're out of service............
we have this caprice with 3.6 and 6.0 here at middle east
The Reginator that depends on how much they've used them and how well they've maintain them....marked patrol units often get the hell driven out of them, but the unmarked units are almost never driven as hard
Bullshit. Crowns Vics are still on the road and Ford stopped makin em. I-2 years my ass
I've got a 2007 Holden Commodore, which is the original version of this car that is sold in Australia (and it's also one version down, if the "2007" part hasn't told you so already.) Here are five things you need to know before you consider buying this car, or something similar. 1. The interior space is huge. It's like Chrysler 300 huge. If you're on the taller side (like me, I'm 6'3"), you'll be much more comfortable in this car than your average sedan. 2. It's a big, wide car. In smaller, more cramped suburban areas, I wouldn't recommend it. 3. The suspension is firmer than average. Having firm suspension is good if you want to feel the tires on the road. Even with the firm suspension, the car rides surprisingly smoothly. 4. My version (the base version), can reach speeds of up to 155mph. All versions are also rear-wheel drive. This, coupled with the firm suspension, makes it much more suited to more rural areas than suburban areas. 5. Even though this is a big, fast car, it was built for use in rough-as-all-living-hell rural Australian areas. This also means surprisingly great fuel economy. Even though I have the dual-fuel version, I drove from Melbourne to Adelaide on a single tank. The non-dual-fuel version will likely make the same trip.
I work in the UAE and its available here, I loved it so much I bought one in white with the 6.0 V8
Man I hate when dealers put their stickers on the cars.
Yeah I know. It is already yours so they might as well take it off.
Same here
I hate all badges too. I debadge my cars, just take off all these stuff.
Eat The Rich I don't hate the badges put on by the factory, just the ones dealerships put on.
I don't mind dealer stickers as long as they don't over do it. I've seen a jeep wrangler before with a dealer sticker, dealer license plate frame, and a dealer spare tire cover all on the same vehicle.
Great video as always Kyle! What an awesome car, just hope someday they will sell it to the public on the new market.
I bought a 2013 PPV 9C1 6L Alto Grey, All cloth mix seats, carpet, spot light in June used with 800 mile on a Manufacturer title. I love it, I have wanted one since it was announced and I started seeing them parked in the fleet lot at a dealer in Richardson, TX. I'm glad I got it, it is one of the best all around cars I have ever had. I put 9C3 detective wheel covers on it from a friend(I have Caprice PPV friends now :D), a homemade K&N intake and I removed the intake maifold cover for more sound. I have a turbo for it that I got a deal on and I hope to make 500whp with it as soon as I round up all the parts and software I need this winter. If you get the chance I'd reccomend buying one.
That's pretty cool, a few departments in my area are starting to get them. Does yours have the spotlight still attached?
Yes, it works too.
how's the gas mileage? I saw one on craigslist in Dallas,TX. and wanted to buy one
It looks way cooler than any othe PPVs, and its Australian, so it might handle better
HNRichard I got 28.8 mpg on a trip from GA to PA last summer. It took some discipline. 93oct, 47psi (hot) in the tires, no A/C(it was a cool night), cruise at 60mph. In mixed driving on 93oct I get between 17 and 19mpg, on E85 in mixed driving it gets 14.9mpg. I use E85 because the car performs better than 93oct on it and it's a $1 gallon less than 93oct so even with the reduced fuel economy I come out ahead. I would highly recommend the car if you like G8s, don't want a car that old and can't afford an SS sedan. I want to augment my fleet with a cheap used 2014 SS sedan soon.
Hey do you still currently have the car, I'm interested in buying a 2014 caprice?
Chevy Caprice is available for sale to the public in Dubai; I had one while I was working there.
You are racist against Muslims😳

Will GM allow a form of this car to be sold to the public at some point I mean this thing looks like a real winner a lot of people are big fans of the old caprice classics.
They do with the G8 based SS. But I think it's overpriced and should be offered in other trim levels. You can find these on websites like carsforsale.com but that's really it. I doubt they will make a civilian version now, especially since production will end next year sometime. If they continue production here instead who knows. I wish they started making caprices here again, and maybe they could bring back
full sized wagons
I actually haven't had trouble with my 90s Caprice. Its a Roadmaster but it's built on the same platform as the 90s one. But yeah I've heard good things about these Holden cars.
They are, used that is anyways. I found a few online that are "new." Carsforsale.com has a few usually.
I mean this newer Caprice is long and all, but the 90's were a boat.
Yeah, you have a point. I love my B Body. In my opinion though, the newer ones are the closet thing you can get to an old B Body.
in australia these are sold as really luxurious long wheel base limos with leather sunroof dvd players etc
it's one of the beloved vehicles in the middle east ( saudi arabia ). specially when it's fitted with a SS package... maan she's awesome along with it's younger sister Lumina SS or as the US version of it ( pontiac G8 )... GM all the way babyyy
GM GM GM.....
Holden all the way!
HoldenisAustralian Holden and GM
TheZombaslaya it’s funny because Holden is GM
this is actually an attainable dream car of mine. i prefer cars that dont look very flashy but shine through performance.
Agreed.
Whenever I am bored, I always watch this videos.
I absolutely love it, happy to see they still produce proper cars over there in the states, here in Sweden everyone are pretty much driving around in 1,6 litre diesels
Any volvos?
I have an original 2014 CapriceV here in Australia I am keeping it as long as i can they are an amazing vehicle especially on long drives and it tows my caravan with ease
finally an Holden.love it.Holden Caprice and Holden Statesman.
Im usually not into these normal blob cars but that 6.0 makes me want one
Even though Chevy intended to sell that as a cop car only. I've seen some driving around as civilian models. They would make great taxi cars
The Chevy SS is the short wheelbase "update" of this one; If you want to buy one, look up the HSV website, Holden's tuning division, for ideas on customising. Holden have always made several models from the one shell. The HSV cars are factory built Commodores, utes and Caprices that have been tuned by adding bits. Spoilers, better brakes, seats, suspension and body kits
Australian car just rebadged as a chevy in the states and middle east. I'm buying one of these in a couple weeks and putting some 13x7 100 spoke Daytons on it with a 2 pump pro hopper hydraulics setup. Can't wait
Absolutely no doubt, this will take the Crown Vics place. Looks fine, big, powerful, well designed.
Will these Caprice cars be suitable for regular drivers? Thanks.
In the Middle East market? Yes .. it has been in the Middle East market since 2007. The old ones since 2002 i think.
Im not sure if it would be available in the Europian and American market.
Gm intended to just sell them as police and government fleet vehicles, but of you look you can find some online from dealers that will sell them to a civilian.
The-EXpertStreet B-Racer Yeah their pretty cheap in texas
***** there some in Dallas believe easy under 70,000 miles believe me. Every since 2012 I've been seeing this vehicles
I saw one for sale a recently in Texas, it had around 98,000 miles. I also found some newer ones as well, 2 of them are in my state. If I were to get one in the future, id probably try to get a '14 model or newer I found several for sale on this website carsforsale.com
I'm glad you know your facts about this car. Like you said it's been on sale in Australia since 2006 as the Holden Statesman and Caprice and is in it's most basic trim in this video. Good Review!
6.0 V8 ? if this car was launched in the Philippines , the engine will go down from 6.0 V8 to 2.4 16V
make that 2.0 L
In other words, it wouldn't ever be sold.
Good see Chevy finally building solid sedans again. I was really impressed with the 2012 Impala.
Although I feel sorry for the Impala. As an Australian, I've always wondered what the hell Chevrolet were thinking by "neutering" the Impala by making it front wheel drive. I hear that when hoods in Michigan see one of these in the rear vision mirrors, they give up. Unlike the Crown Vic, where they know they have a reasonable chance of getting away from a single Crown Vic.
i have a VE Holden commodore 2011 ss v8 x cop car in Australia. fantastic car
This was my first video of Saabkyle04 I've seen.
Michael O'Keefe same here haha!
the first video i saw was when he uploaded a 1999 escalade
You can buy one used, usually with low miles for civilian use, just you normally cannot buy one new, unless it is a previous year model, i.e., 2011 or 2012 in 2013. Hope that helps.
They should sell it to the public, in rear wheel drive. Price the V8 at like 30 grand, and the v6 at like 27 grand.
You can at least get a Pontiac G8.
Well, departments are retiring them so they're gonna be cheap
I would own this car in a heartbeat! This car should have been offered as a consumer retail vehicle, NOT just only for police. That was a bullcrap excuse from GM, and there’s NOTHING about this car that ordinary folks can’t have. It’s rear wheel drive, what big cars are supposed to be!
Reminds me of the Pontiac G8
It's on the same platform. Same motor same chassis. So it's the same car. The Chevy SS is also the same car.
OH WEWWY
DrRhopnop Opldop the SS is based on the Holden commodore, while this is the Holden caprice
@@brotherputin3776 Incorrect the ss is a commodore while a caprice is a long commodore with some more features
Kyle, I noticed that there were two different interiors and two different cars shown in the beginning. I'd like to know which are which. Thanks.
The one with black rims is patrol version the full grey wheels is detective version
It looks like a baby impala :D
Its almost the same tall as the Suburban 2013 does
They are very bigger
Baby? It's vastly larger.
The better Impala..
More like if the Impala & the Malibu had a baby on steroids
Even though I love my Camry XSE 4 Cylinder, Chevrolet will always be one of my favorite brands. I’m the kind of guy that likes a lot of brands.
Also Holden in Australia
11:28 average speed: 210 MPH
average fuel economy: 127 MPG
Chevrolet is coming out with these in 2014 as Chevrolet SS, but I am not sure if they will call it an Impala SS or Caprice SS.
They need to start selling these to civilians.
Tai Rhoades I read an article where one dealership actually did sell them to the public due to a now corrected loophole in GM's contract. So supposedly about 12... or maybe it said 14 were actually legally sold to the public. Keep your eyes open at the auto auctions in the future
***** Good point, so if you do get one, maintain it as a show car... which... this doesn't look much like a show car
You could still get parts easily I would assume, they use em as patrol cars, and I'm sure some dealers would have parts so they could work on and service the patrol cars. Also, the car shares mechanical parts with the SS and the Camaro, they are both Zeta cars. Anyway, that's what I'd think anyway. Now the Middle Eastern chevy caprice, that's a show car!
Chevrolet SS
chevy ss
When these things catch on.. Chevrolet/Holden wont be able to build enough of them... Great looking car.. I intend to have one very soon
I wish the Impala to be rear wheels drive, V8 and 6 seater again. Make Chevrolet Great Again!
The 2006-2016 generation of the impala actually had a v8 option. But it was only available on the ss model of it which they only had it from 2006-2009. After the 2009 model year they stopped making the ss one, but I don't know why.
@@TTM719 yeah the SS model was only available in 06, 07, 08, and 09, they did away with it in 2010, and yes it was a 5.3 V8, however it was still Front wheel drive, which caused NUMEROUS transmission issues, for the 4T65E-HD 4 speed trans they used in it... After 2012, they changed from the original 3.5v6 (ls, lt,) or 3.9v6 (ltz) with a 4 speed trans, to a 3.6 v6 with a 6 speed trans. I believe if they would have used the 6 speed trans in combination with the SS and 5.3 V8, it would have had a MUCH better reputation, and would have sold much better
@Brandon Donohue oh.
I don't know why everyone is disagreeing with you when you are absolutely spot on! This would be a perfect replacement for the Impala with the traditional rwd and a v8! I think the chevy fan boys don't like it because it's Australian that's all
Went to jail in one of these.
Great find Kyle! I wished they replace the obsolete Impala with this in the civilian sector.
I don't get why GM would make a "detective model." If they intended to sell it as a cop car only. They should give it a leather interior and call it a Caprice Classic.
I agree making a "detective model" is pointless GM should have just named the base model Caprice the "Caprice Classic" or named it "Caprice Special" not make a vehicle you can buy out of a dealership and make it a detective model and, this is why GM has fucked up the auto industry and why all the older GM vehicles are being looked at as shit.
Tyler Yo Yep, GM probably thinks people would want a front drive Impala instead.
I think at one point, the WM/WN Caprice/Statesman was destined to become the next Impala. Why did they not just make the Impala on Zeta? Because I know reviewers complained about the 2006-13 Impala, would Zeta have silenced the reviewers’ complaints?
@@rileysmith9843 it would have for sure! At least we got this car one way or another. The Impala from that era wasn’t terrible, it just was not up to date. It was an extremely dated FWD platform to begin with.
@@harysuper And when the mass FWD switch occurred on GM mid-size and larger cars, there was a RWD platform ready and waiting to be stretched to be used on cars such as the LeSabre and Bonneville, already in use at that time by both Holden and Opel, and it was ready to be expanded to other makes in the GM lineup. It was eventually used by Buick, but only on a Chinese-market model. The Royaum would have been a great car to add and slot above the LeSabre, and give Buick a rear-drive flagship.
Small lesson on his cars origins.
In 2006 Holden released its all new Zeta platform in the form of the Commodore and the LWB Statesman/Caprice, the Statesman name was dropped in 2010. In 2008 a version of the Commodore called the G8 was exported to the US and Canada under the Pontiac brand. This was discontinued when Pontiac died. The G8 came in trim unique to Pontiac but similar to the Commodore SS and SV6.
In 2009 the Zeta based Camaro went on sale.
In 2011 the Caprice PPV went on sale.
I reckon GM doesn't want to introduce the Caprice and Commodore (with more options) because it will ruin the Americans. Australians cars have better handling and finish I think.
Wrong otherwise the SS wouldn't exist. The SS to my knowledge is fully loaded in comparison to the Commodore. Which is a problem because you have to pay extra for options you may not want.
As in the commodore down under has like many more variants like the luxury model Calais V, SV6, the base model Evoke and of course the ute range. Don't mean any offense because when the G8 came out Americans loved it but they didn't market it appropriately almost as if they didn't want it to become big. Replies including corrections in my comment are encouraged.
Variants are irrelevant as the issue is not variants but options. Basically they took the Commodore V8 and gave it every option possible except a manual transmission. They made it LHD and shipped it here. Then they sell it as that (technically built on order). So if you want an SS then with all of the options is how you will get it. It should have more variants as that is the home country.
Don't speak for Americans by saying they loved the G8 as a whole. G8 owners and enthusiasts love them and its performance attributes but the rest of them weren't exactly attracted to it. It had a similar option problem. Styling was also an issue. Styling has always been an issue for Holdens here dating back to the Monaro aka GTO by being too bland. The VF (aka SS) is so bland that it is pathetic to me. They are great cars but the Achilles heel was the options and packaging.
I personally like Commodores. I would have bought the G8 ST if it came into fruition but that is the only model that interests me. Marketing wasn't the only model. As a car, the Commodore isn't good enough to appeal to ordinary Americans and that is because of its package and pricing. That can go back to Holden partially but largely GM North America. In comparison to the Commodore, the SS is stacked as in using items from many different trim levels down under to make a fully loaded package hence driving up the price here.
Alright cheers.
Konformation07 Wrong the G8 GXP had a manual option.
This is awesome Kyle! Fantastic job! Which do you like better, this or the new Ford-Taurus based interceptor?
I want it!
The window switch and handbrake placement are really cool.
Hey guys my car has "police specs", oh yeah?
It comes with the same lights on the ceiling!
The Caprice PPV comes in unique police specifications. This includes poverty spec interiors, when compared to the Holden Caprice, and upgraded suspensions.
In 2013 the Commodore based Chevrolet SS will go on sale. This will be based on the next model of the Commodore, the VF not the current VE. The Chevrolet SS will come with unique specifications expected to be similar to a HSV Clubsport.
Haha I got a black Holden man, same model as this. its cheap to run but I hate those window controls in the middle, I rather have a Ford any day over this, the Ford handles better than these at high speed but for fuel economy these are better, I have halfed my fuel bill.
the problem is the car stopped in Saudi Arabia .. the replacement is The Malibu V6 !
and now the V8 Sedan market left to the charger and the 300C
Whoahoa! This is native australians!
This WILL be the consumer model. I for one can't wait.
Caprice PPV: poor mans Chevy SS LMAO!
How about set it up from MPH to kilometers in digital speedometer? Canada and Mexico uses km/h.
we have the Caprice in the Arabian Gulf since ... ever :) Chevy stop making it since the 90th but it export the Holden Caprice to us as a Chevy Caprice since 2000 I guess. its an amazing car, very powerful, very speed, very comfortable, and live long
Saw one of these on the interstate this morning...euro styling all the way down to the rear wheel camber. Sits on the road like an E39 5-series...
maybe when i drive one for myself i would judge which one is better .... but the thing is that most ppl would love to enjoy a rumbling V8 under there hood .. and the good thing about a V8 is the fuel economy on highways (( believe me i drive a 2011 FJ )) i don't really have an experience on the Falcon V.s. HSV debate back there in Aussie .. but all i know is that they are rivals in the hearts of the Aussie motoring enthusiasts .. im off to look at the F6 vid review i'll comment back l8er ..
You are talking about the caprice royal that comes with 6.0 v8 engine ..... This car is much a lower class to be compared with 7 series !!! but its a very nice car ... I was going to buy the 2012 v8 ltz version of the caprice to replace my 2004 Lumina s ( v6 3.8 ) :)
I can really appreciate this guy!
Respect!
now bring back the Lumina's..those were great cars, i have a 1st gen lumina euro3.4 myself..what id do for a holden model.
My uncle had one of these a few years back. it was big and it also spent a lot of time with its hood up...
Great review! Is there any chance of these being available to the general public? (to your knowledge)
You guys its RWD, if you notice the engine placement, its not sideways. Besides I went to go see it last week. It has a differential for the rear wheels.
Well you really did a professionall looking video :) Really good one:)
Its parent car was a top of the line Holden. This is the Australian Holden Caprice stripped of most of its "tinsel." In Australia, the Caprice has features such as LCD screens in the back of the headrests, power leather seats, a 6 disc stacker, and just about everything you'd find in a 7-Series BMW, except for overly complex controls, and a pricetag that makes you shudder.
great job on the video kyle. i still remember my dad's 1993 chevy caprice classic taxi ex-cop car. until gm decides to sell a civilian version, we might have to wait a couple of years when the police retire their fleet.
Thats a very nice car, beautiful big V8. Its a shame its not available to the public.
Shame this didn't come as a purchasable car for civilians or with a manual transmission. Still a badass car!
😭
I live in Australia and my dad has a Holden commodore Berlina international
hey kyle, i dont think you mentioned this, but is it rear wheel drive, or front wheel drive?
actually you can - even though it is for law enforcements, some civilian spec models have been manufactured and are available in certain dealerships
Nice Review!
Fun fact : Pontiac G8 was also brought from Australia here and it was named holden Commodore 1st generation
@ 10:23
Kyle: "Navigation is also available"
Screen: "Full Map Navigation Not Available"
LOL
The way the air vents are part of the doors is kind of cool.
Interesting choice of name. In the Middle East, the sedan Americans know as the Pontiac G8 is the Chevy Lumina. Its parent car is the Holden Commodore, and its UK version is the Vauxhall VXR8.
This was originally a luxury car in Australia (or luxury specced executive with the usual Caprice wheelbase). It's funny how they have this much power and that they just shipped it over. I don't believe this is being manufactured anymore in Australia as of '18.
Thats our Holden Statesman!!! G,day from Down Under!
Can't wait to see the your tour of the 2012 Nissan Maxima!
That will change substantially when the exchange rate between the Australian Dollar and the Greenback levels out. What makes them fun, is the fact that Holden are great believers in universal tooling; make several models from one base, but make all the parts interchangeable. In doing so, it makes them cheaper to build, with the side effect of being easy to customise
Can you buy these in civilian form in the US? They are available in Australia and the Middle East but I've only seen them as patrol cars in America
I really like how they blend in the parking brake with the interior.
Good vid!!! Do you have any videos on the Saturn Aura? If not, could you do a video please? Thanks.
oooo I'm gettin' chills up and down my back hearin' that thing start up....I can't wait to drive that thing as a black 'n' white someday =]
is in middle east from 2007 too now
is the best car man
@saaabkyle04 I was wondering if I could use your video as a guide & even textures for a 3D version of this car I'm making which will be used to make police car replicas with for the Need for Speed Games.
Caprice looks not bad. I'd change the grill design and window design but that's about it. Pretty nice. 8/10
nice i love the caprice i didnt know they had newer ones.
Is it possible to bring the Holden Caprice over to the U.S. but actually converted with the Chevy Logos and left side steering wheel?
Chevy ss
It's the Chevy SS , not the Impala SS or the Caprice SS or the Malibu SS. It's just Chevy SS
they're basically the same. And importing a car and changing the steering would cost a forture. Just buy one second hand if you want one
Why are people giving you thumbs down..? you're right
lol @9:22 the perfect line for the police package caprice that you were playing with the spotlight
Now to do the new Ford Interceptors they came out with so we can compare and contrast! :-P Lol Awesome video as always Kyle.
Very nice car. The tail lights remind me those of Ford Crown Vic. Nice review. Thanks.
I have a strong love for chevrolets. Especially these ones
There will be an AWD option so I've heard and there will be an SS available eventually. Maybe they will even add a RWD option for the SS's.
@cyberboy855 The Ford Police Interceptor is supposed to replace the Crown Vic. It's like a rebadged Taurus except only meant for police use like this car.
