Glorious. Mostly traditional ballet moves designed in a modern context. Three fabulous dancers. And to top it off, the camera doesn't dominate the choreography, but steps back and just lets it be on the stage.
Thank you Janet, Yes the camera it’s just a witness to the choreography. Being a videographer too, I always let the choreography do the talking. So grateful to the dancers and Karl Jenkings for their collaboration. I’m happy you like it.🌷

The Vitruvian Man is da Vinci's study of the human form, which is meant to be perfectly proportionate through the application of geometry and mathematics. Its only meaning is to demonstrate the perfect ratios and proportions found in human anatomy. The Choreography David Fernandez created the choreography for three dancers representing the three orders of architecture in ancient Greece. These architectural rules were standardized and have influenced modern architecture. The Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders were developed during the Classical period and were characterized by distinct features in their columns. Hello Joseph, yes they seem floating in the air, we called balloon. All the muscles have to be in sync going upwards and the dancer needs to try to suspend on the air. Basically we never try to come down, lol. Thank you for your comment, please keep supporting the arts. Best, David

it was more like free styling than choreographed. it seemed like they took turns filling up space before the REAL dancers came out. the steps were repetitive and un synchronized. as if it were put together in a half hour or so. I've seen dolphins choreographed better than this. "Remarkable" ? hold on , is this Stevie Wonder? 🤔👀☺
Amazing how the fluidity of their movements for a moment makes them look like they are weightless...like feathers flying in the air! Beautifully performed.

I like that it is more masculine than I find a lot of ballet to be. And the string ensemble is absolutely on point too. Just wonderful. Am so glad I clicked on this. Thank you for posting. Perfection. Which is what Leonardo intended when he drew 'Vitruvian Man'. He intended more: he alluded to Plato's original thesis. Physical beauty , perfect proportion, is but an outward expression of moral beauty and proportion. You and your dancers have given us a glimpse of that. It is a timely reminder to those political leaders whose ugly and immoral actions are denying mankind the beauty of which the human race is capable.
Truly mesmerizing to watch! American basketball players could learn a thing or two from ballet. The grace and strength is so beautiful to watch! Bravo!

Beautiful. That's the only word I can come up with. I know the word gets thrown around, but that's what this was. Simply beautiful. What a celebration of the male form. What a celebration of the _human_ form. I know it sounds dramatic, but this actually changed something in me when I watched it. The Vitruvian Man is now more beautiful in my eyes just from the power of this dance. I loved it. I was glued to the screen the entire time. How wonderful to live in a time where seeing things like this is commonplace. Each and every one of use were lucky to have been born now where we can enjoy truly beautiful art like this. I don't even know how to accurately express my grateful joy at being able to witness this. And this was ten years ago! I'll definitely have to check out whatever else is on this youtube channel.
WereforCoin, your beautiful comment makes all the hard work worthwhile. As an artist, getting in our audiences hearts and souls is the ultimate goal. But let me tell you how it came to life. I saw the sketch of the Vitruvian Man many times before, but for some reason one day I started to think about him dancing. And one day I decided to make the piece. The next thing to do is to look for the right music and that takes time. While I was in London I listened to Karl Jenkings music in a Cabb, and I was, yes! That’s the one! So I had to search online for the title of the song. When I finally got it I immediately started to count the music to break it down on the sections that I wanted to do. Because I also knew that Vitruvius was the father of architecture in Rome. I wanted to honor him too. Now with the concept ready all that I needed was the cast. So each of the dancers represent the three basic orders. Chase Finlay is Doric Ask La Cour is Ionic Amar Ramasar is Corinthian We rehearsed at the Lincoln center and in several studios in NYC. We presented the piece in a benefit gala for dancers in transition. It was a magical night. That I am happy to share with you thanks to the RUclips magic. I want to thank you again for your kind comment. Please keep supporting the arts. Best, David

Brilliant choreography -- it works so exceptionally well with the Palladio. It's such an exciting piece, and the music and dancing complement each other perfectly. More than that, it seems that the music really animates the dancers. Would that Leonardo were still with us to see it!

Glorious. Mostly traditional ballet moves designed in a modern context. Three fabulous dancers. And to top it off, the camera doesn't dominate the choreography, but steps back and just lets it be on the stage.
Amen. It's always bothered me when videographers try to get fancy with their cameras and the dance is forgotten.
Totally agree. We all have big screens yet camera people insist on close ups and miss the whole shape that the director has created

it was more like free styling than choreographed. it seemed like they took turns filling up space before the REAL dancers came out. the steps were repetitive and un synchronized. as if it were put together in a half hour or so. Vitruvian Man.
The Vitruvian Man is da Vinci's study of the human form, which is meant to be perfectly proportionate through the application of geometry and mathematics. Its only meaning is to demonstrate the perfect ratios and proportions found in human anatomy.
The Choreography
David Fernandez created the choreography for three dancers representing the three orders of architecture in ancient Greece. These architectural rules were standardized and have influenced modern architecture. The Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders were developed during the Classical period and were characterized by distinct features in their columns. These orders were commonly seen in formal, public buildings like libraries, gymnasiums, stadiums, theaters, and civic buildings. That is why each dancer represents each of the orders in a different movement style.
The Music
Palladio is a composition for string orchestra by Karl Jenkins, completed in 1995, with the title referring to the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The work in three movements is in the form of a concerto grosso.

Chase Finlay is Doric
Ask La Cour is Ionic
Amar Ramasar is Corinthian
We rehearsed at the Lincoln center and in several studios in NYC.
We presented the piece in a benefit gala for dancers in transition. It was a magical night. That I am happy to share with you thanks to the RUclips magic.

The Music
Palladio is a composition for string orchestra by Karl Jenkins, completed in 1995, with the title referring to the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The work in three movements is in the form of a concerto grosso.
I love architecture, too!

Brilliant choreography -- it works so exceptionally well with the Palladio. It's such an exciting piece, and the music and dancing complement each other perfectly. More than that, it seems that the music really animates the dancers. Would that Leonardo were still with us to see it!
Hello Paul, as the choreographer I am glad that I have done what I should do. Make the music and dance match. I know it sounds simple but it’s been years of trying.

Everyone who is criticising one or more of the dancers shall start dancing themselves and see what they can perform themselves. It is a wonderful performance and the stereotype is broken that ballet is always a thing of a woman and man or of many women. Marvellous and splendid work!

He then moved to New York in search of better opportunities.
