- After a week of its release, I decided to give Chromatica another listen, and here's my reaction.

I subconsciously compared this project with her previous work on my initial listen, and on top of that, the world was in shambles. This time around, I decided to go in with a clean slate, allowing me to enjoy the music for what it is. Pay attention to the lyrics, and you'll understand this revisit. as a massive gaga fan i have to admit the album was a grower for me too and i didn’t love it immediately. we love you ajay and im so glad you haven’t let the “haters” get to you!!! 💗💗
I'm a fan of Gaga too (not a massive one though) and I didn't love it at first either (I would have given it a 6 out of 10 at my first listen), still don't think it's a masterpiece, but it's quite good, I would be more charitable with my score now (maybe a 7,5 or an 8 out of 10).
I think the reason is that it's not as easily digestible. You have to kind of hear it a few times before it really clicks? But once it does its like BAM! And that's okay...some music is like that. Most mainstream pop is made to be easily digestible, this one you need some time with it because it's kind of a unique piece in some ways.

@@TECfan1 I had the opposite experience, I expected it to be way more experimental, and SOPHIE to produce a few songs (which was heavily rumored) and incorporate her bubblegum bass and deconstructed club sound, so the fact that it turned out to be a classical 90s house album genre-wise disappointed me. Which isn't fair, since I loved Dua Lipa's nu-disco-inspired new album. I just had too many expectations.

i really respect this. I'll admit i was a little underwhelmed by stupid love and rain on me at first, then i took the album for what it was, a dance album, and LOVED IT
I hated Stupid love at first with the chipmunk voice but it grew on me. Hated rain on me but the video changed my mind. :/

My favorite thing about Ajay is how shes always genuine and she isn’t afraid to say that she doesn’t like something which is fine. I love and respect she was very honest about her first initial impressions, most people can't/won't do that. So, how about we leave this beautiful, gorgeous queen alone and let her live.

I have been a GAGA STAN for many years, and on behalf of the entire fanbase, I would like to apologize for the blatant harassment and hate you received for giving your honest first opinions. My reaction, when I first listened to Chromatica, was very similar. Tracks like Alice, 911, and 1000 Doves were not immediate slaps in my mind, but after listening to the album, focusing on the lyrics, and consciously trying to approach this masterpiece with an open mind, they completely won me over. I loved that you filmed your second go-around and allowed Chromatica to work its magic on you as it did with myself and probably other Little Monsters. Paws up forever, xoxo.💚💜

I loved my first listen bc it’s just a very complete experience. It took me through it emotionally. My favorite still is Born This Way, but I have to say the final act of Chromatica is some of the best work Lady Gaga has ever done. Gives me goosebumps and made me dance cry so much.
I did. It was a breath of fresh air. Some songs did take time to grow on me like stupid Love and sour candy. But the rest were immediate bops 😍😍😍

While it may have been her decision to revisit the album, the backlash she got for her first reaction was disgusting. Everyone has their own opinion, and obviously not everyone will like the album. Even I struggled to like the album at first. Been a Little Monster since the beginning of Gaga's career and on my initial listen, Chromatica was a mess. It had so much going on that I could not possibly focus on every aspect of it. I listened to the album again a few times and grew to like some of the songs. The album is definitely a grower and it's ridiculous to expect that everyone would love it at first listen.

You need to understand that reaction videos are beyond your personal taste. You have to judge their work, their lyrics, the instruments they used, the effort they put, the whole damn album. Especially when your whole channel is based on reactions. Of course you have to say if it’s good or bad BUT when you start with a bad mood and hating the first 2 seconds from the beginning that’s not how it works. AND when it comes to Gaga’s album the reviews were 90% positive.

I honestly love 911 because it’s from a perspective of constantly being on medications. The meds suppress her feelings and “acting like a normal human” so she sounds very robotic. I think she’s singing about anti-depressants that’s why the song is almost one note without a real drop.

you can tell when she's not in the mood as soon as she starts the album, it happened with Charli's self titled
Still, the production on that album is a little bit too much. A lot of things going on 5 tones on 1 song and the mess goes on and on. Everyone who knows about music knows that. It’s not awful, has its catchy parts but definitely not amazing. You don’t have to shove your bad taste down people’s throats just because they didn’t like it. So sad she did this again.
911 is a grower, you’ll see.
Agreed. 911 in first listen wasn't going for me and I thought it was the worst one in the album, but after some second chances it's catching me. Chromatica really needs to be paid attention and you'll (maybe) end up loving it after all.

I totally understand what happened to Ajay, cause it happened to me! I'm the biggest Gaga's fan but the first time I heard chromatica I didn't like 80% of the album and I was so disappointed and went to bed angry because I didn't like it but the next day I found myself signing some of the songs and I listened to the whole album again and again and again and Woow now I freakin love every single song on it and it keeps growing on me every time I listen to it!

Estaba tan emocionada y con las espectativas tan altas que cuando escuché el CD y no se parecía en nada a sus anteriores trabajos no me gustó nada, de hecho solo me gustaron Alice y Sine From Above. Me fui a dormir muy desencantada y decepcionada de que no me gustase, incluso lloré porque amo a Gaga y siempre me ha encantado todo lo que hacía. Una amiga me dijo que me dejase un día de descanso y volviese a escuchar el álbum, y eso hice. Cada vez que lo escucho me gusta más, de hecho hay solo 2 canciones que no me acaban de convencer, pero seguro que con el tiempo me hago a ellas :)

I hated the album when I heard it the first time. I was so sad and depressed, I cried the whole night. I woke up Saturday morning with a lump on my throat and tried again because Lady Gaga seems like the only person who I connect to lately. I understand all her thoughts. I sooooo get her. Love her music, acting, but most of all love her spirituality, her extremely sensitive nature, her emotional intelligence, her whole personality. Her album is such a brilliant dance/house/pop album with riveting insight to her journey through life. It is dark and depressing as is it uplifting. For my taste in music, for me, it is not my favourite album. For me, my favourite album is Joanne, then ASIB. The reaction is very entertaining.After public scrutiny, criticism, Ajayll gave it a go. The only thing I have to say is:I have been cranking the album and listening to it time and time again, over and over. It is playing on my mind. It is addictive. It has been making me sad and very pensive lately, with how the world is so messed up, your life has changed and you start to be in your head alot and you realise things need to change. Would love to meet her or be with someone like her and realised I never will. 😭

I honestly hope she did this "revisit" by herself and not because of the pressure of Little Monsters cause that would be so sad. The fact that Little Monsters literally rank their favorite Gaga albums from best to worst and when they don't like one of her album it's ok, but when someone doesn't like their faves' album they attack. I love Lady Gaga but some of her stans are pretty much toxic and petty.

The dynamics of “911” are intentionally off-putting, I think. The “can’t see me cry” rises in intensity, she takes her medication, and then her emotions get sapped.
I love how she like Sour Candy like everybody does.

Plastic Doll was basically about Gaga being and feeling controlled by the music industry and how it mixed with her personal relationships. She is saying that she was built and made to look a certain way, and she was microchipped by the music industry. It's a very deep song. Gaga is a musical genius, especially with this album. Most of the songs are incredibly sad and she masked it with pop music and beats that are upbeat. What she did with this album was just, GENIUS. It's a mix between the Born This Way album with the many powerful and deep messages, and also mixed with the beats from Artpop. Incredible. No Words. 💙💙💙

Plastic Doll is about Gaga's struggle with being forced into a stereotype in the pop music industry. It's actually one of the saddest songs on the album imo, like shes hurting because she can't fully express herself and instead has to satisfy everyone's expectations of her. The more popularity this album gets, the more the message in Plastic Doll is like a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way

All the songs on After Hours sound identical (more so than some of the songs on Chromatica) and that whole album is a bloated bore. Chromatica is also far more lyrically complex than Future Nostalgia however I’ll admit that Future Nostalgia is far closer to being on the same level as Chromatica than After Hours is. Chromatica and Future Nostalgia are both far superior and far more deserving of a Grammy nomination

Before the album dropped, everyone was saying that this could have the same vibe as ARTPOP which was my fav album from her, so when I first listened to chromatica, I had ARTPOP in the back of my mind. And that limit my ability to enjoy this one like. But the more I got into chromatica, I like it more and more. Might actually even be my favorite album of hers now.
Artpop is my fave also , but this album grows much more on me now 😭😭

Sometimes you do need time. On my first listen I wasn’t really sold on many songs, but subsequent playthroughs have given me a lot more insight and appreciation for the album as a whole. These things take time!
