The loser stays behind and swims for a bit, then leaves and heads North all by himself. A lot of the barrier islands from Georgia to Virginia have wild horses. But because people want to go to the beach the horses become used to the people. It can be a dangerous affair when people get to comfortable approaching these horses.

I get that it's difficult for some folks to watch. I think y'all will agree that, as humans, it's not ours to judge. And we always have a choice to watch or not watch. The thing that makes it distasteful for some viewer is really about what it means to them when they see it. Not what is means to the horse or to be a horse.

Yes. This is the normal horse language and instincts. This is a wild herd, so this happens every time a new batch of colts are born and grow into puberty. It's actually the perfect way to keep the herds growing. ❤️❤️

Amen! That was a dream of mine until last weekend. I have been searching for a property with a small stable and pastures to purchase. I had found two different places which are perfect. I don’t intend to ride,; I just wanted to provide a couple of rescues a safe home. Then I started researching horse care and learned just how ignorant I am about horses. I thought a couple of horses that had lived on beach grass and scrub would thrive in a pasture with real grass. After reading about the care and expense of keeping horses I realized my dream of providing sanctuary to a couple of rescues isn’t financially possible. The vet and farrier visits, food, and medication simply do not fit in my retirement budget. I found a volunteer organization who provide supplemental care to the Corolla wild horses and they have an “adoption” program to raise money. Having a picture of a wild horse will be as close as I get. ) :
I don't know their complete history, but these are the wild horses of the Outer Banks, NC. I believe originally left by the Spanish. They are now under strict protection. That will give you a place to start research. Hope that helps.

The one that got ran connected a couple good kicks at the end.. the last one caught the stallion square in the jaw.. that's one reason he gave u and went back to his mares..
I don’t think him getting hit in the jaw had anything to do with him going back to the mares. He made the little one do exactly what he wanted which was to move away. If that stallion really wanted to, he could have kept going but he wanted the other stallion to learn his place and his place was not with the herd anymore.
Horse in water washing wounds. Salt water great for healing. That weird noise the horse made before he ran down the beach is actually air trapped in his sheath getting moved around by running. Both those horses suffered a big bite at the withers. Horses bite there as it is a sensitive spot. Maybe management of these horses needs to catch some of those stallions and geld them.

You can schedule a tour with the groups that specifically tour the herds. Of course there is always the chance you won't see them, but the tour companies follow them closely and know their travel patterns. Something to look into next time you go, but of course, just like everything else lately, the tours may be shut down.

Just think of it like kids arguing with their parents. Are we just gonna put the kids down? No lol. This is just part of life. Now the young stallion can find/start a new herd.
