Caroline. I watched this from USA. I know it was for 17/18 years old kids. I am older than your 8-4-4 generations. But I was still inspired and learned lessons that will impact my life positively.
    Thanks

I usually agree with Carolyne but today I can't. I think personal branding is relative. Look at Muthoni drummer queen, her hair /personal style is crazy but she still is a C.E.O and renowned business lady. I think you are shaping these young adults to fit into the "suit and tie" box, which is okay if that's what they like. On the other hand you have creatives in there who really wouldn't fit into that group. I think you would have been better off advising them to match their personal style to their personal brand. That way, they would own the brand better. Yes, you can be crazy, but make sure that your craziness works FOR you, not AGAINST you. Not everyone will end up at the equity bank internship program. For me, official clothes just drag my spirits down so I always try to make my outfits and hair styles as funky as possible. Am getting red/orange hair dye this week, and I started off with orange braids before I cut my hair.

She is speaking about what she knows, she comes from a corporate background, she doesn't know about creatives. So she is not wrong. She also said that if you cannot fit in to a company's brand, then you can leave and presumably start your own company like Muthoni did.

Ok, however, you have to understand the setting of that talk. You have young people there who might be discouraged, when you don't include them, just because they are different. Secondly, even in a corporate setting, you can find a way to make your personal style FIT in a corporate setting, like I did. My debate is, make your speech to young adults inclusive of everyone.

you can't cite the exception to the rule and then generalize - statistically - suit and tie is what reflects seriousness. When I visit my doctor, if he shows up with dreads, inked up like Justin Bieber - it's goodbye! Most people would do the same.
