I gave a presentation to my boss the other day. It was about the launching schedule. I told her that we got stuck on a few things to solve. But, she said we can’t postpone the schedule and we must launch it on a specific date. It means that we have to stick to the original schedule. After the presentation, I was very worried about that. Of course I think my engineers are doing our best to stick to the plan. But I am not sure if this is the right thing to stick our neck out because I think the qualification is more important than anything like the schedule.
Hey, everybody i hope you're having a great weekend so far. I'm just here today to go over something with you very quickly okay? The word 'stick', do you use this word often? Does any particular expression come to mind when you hear this word 'stick'? Because actually i don't even know why this suddenly caught my attention today but i just found myself realizing just how often we use this word. It's very commonly used word. We use it in a variety of different ways and i just wanted to go over some of the basic ones with you today okay? Right, so the first one is to stick together #1. stick together : 뭉치다 / 뭉쳐 있다 "We need to stick together. I'm pretty sure the most of you have heard this in movies and in tv shows and um.. in real life also because it's just used very commonly. So when we say that let's say that i said we need to stick together and that is not only about physical distance. Actually it's not really about physical distance but sticking together means to be a team, to be in support of each other, to support each other and help each other out. Stick together, it's very similar to 'stay together' But it's a little stronger, i think it carries that stronger meaning of supporting each other as a team, as a group, okay? #2. stick to a plan / schedule : 계획대로 하다 / 계획에서 벗어나지 않다 "Let's just stick to the plan." The second one i want to go over with you today is 'stick to a plan or schedule'. So if we say, hey, let's just stick to the plan. So this basically means i'm sure you can already guess what it means but so basically it means to to do according to plan; to not do anything that's not part of the plan. It emphasizes that when we say 'stick to the plan'. as opposed to saying something like 'according to plan' When you do something according to plan you're just simply following your plan but when you stick to your plan, it emphasizes that you don't do anything that's not part of that plan, okay? So it's very commonly used like that stick to a plan; stick to the plan; stick to our plan; or stick to a schedule. It's the same thing, okay? #3. stick one's neck out : (직역: 목을 내밀다 / 의역: 위험을 무릎쓰다) "I stuck my neck out for him." Right, the next thing i wanna go over with you is 'to stick your neck out'. What does that mean? When someone sticks their neck out, it means that they risk getting critisized; they risk being critisized and badly judged and ruinning their reputation potentially and just (you know) getting in trouble for claiming something or just doing something. So, one example of how this is used is we stick our next out for someone. i don't know if you've ever done that. I'm not sure if i've ever done that. But, yeah, so let's say that i'm working at some company and i'm working in the human resource department and i work very closely with the CEO every day and let's say that a friend of mine is umm..looking for a job and i want to help him, i wanna hrlp him get the job and let's just say that the friend is not fully qualified for the job but i really talk him up to the CEO, i talk to the CEO; i say, oh you know this guy he's very competent, he's very qualified, he's very uh..skilled and talented. He has the necessary skills to do this job so this can be an example of sticking my neck out for a friend, because i'm actually risking my own reputation, my own relationship with the CEO, my own position for the friend, right? So, i'm sticking my neck out for the friend. So, that's kind of how one way that expression can be used @@ talk up : discuss someone or something in a way that makes them seem more interesting or atteactive "He is talking up the company to stock analysist" #4. stick with someone : 인상이 강하게 심어지다 "That really stuck with me." All right? Number four is when somthing sticks with you. So we can say well that you know that really stuck with me; it really stuck with us; it really stuck (you know) with the students. What does that mean? Let's say that you saw something or heard or read about something or just you know generally just experienced something and let's say that that or something or a part of that really stuck with you, okay? Something really stuck with you, that means that made a strong impression on you. I'm sure a lot of you are actually glad to see this expression because i'm pretty sure that a lot of you are quite familar with this expression and that's okay because they basically mean the same thing when we say that something stuck with me it basically means that it made a strong impression on you and that impression lasted for a long time. It didn't go away; it stayed with you; it's stuck with you but i personally feel that um..you know.. saying that something stuck with you sounds more emotional snd more..uh.. you know in a way stronger. It sounds stronger because you're using the analogy 비유 [ əˈnælədʒi ] of something sticking to you. It's not easily removed ; it doesn't easily wear off. So it stays with you, it remains with you, it sticks with you. It could be some line that some character spoke in a movie; it could be a line from a movie ; it could be a scene from a movie ; it could be some lyric in a song; it could be a lot of things ; it could be some line in a book ; a lot of things can easily stick with you. It can have a big impression on you, it can stick with you. So you don't easily forget about it, it affects you ultimately. And i think (that's) so (it's) this is a really a good expression so in fact, if you could only remember just one expression among the ones i'm talking about today, if you had to forget all the other ones and just remember one, this is actually the one i would i want you to remember because it's such a good expression; such an effective expression so it stuck with me now ; that really stuck with me ; that movie line really stuck with me ; that character really stuck with me ; the line from the book really stuck with me; the lyrics from the song really stuck with me, okay? That's pretty much all i wanted to cover today and i hope you all gave a great weekend and i'll see you in the next video

Right, so the first one is to stick together
#1. stick together : 뭉치다 / 뭉쳐 있다
"We need to stick together.
Stick together, it's very similar to 'stay together'
But it's a little stronger, i think it carries that stronger meaning of supporting each other as a team, as a group, okay?
#2. stick to a plan / schedule : 계획대로 하다 / 계획에서 벗어나지 않다
"Let's just stick to the plan."
The second one i want to go over with you today is 'stick to a plan or schedule'.
#3. stick one's neck out : (직역: 목을 내밀다 / 의역: 위험을 무릎쓰다)
"I stuck my neck out for him."
Right, the next thing i wanna go over with you is 'to stick your neck out'. So, that's kind of how one way that expression can be used
@@ talk up : discuss someone or something in a way that makes them seem more interesting or atteactive
"He is talking up the company to stock analysist"
#4. stick with someone : 인상이 강하게 심어지다
"That really stuck with me."
All right?
