I missed Valerie Harper when she was first written off Valerie/The Hogan Family, but I feel like Sandy Duncan did an amazing job and the show was just as good, if not better, once she arrived. Of course, that is not taking anything away from Valerie Harper's performance. Both brought something special to the series. I always wanted Valerie Harper to come back and do one special guest appearance on the show, just to see her and Sandy Duncan meet. Since Valerie Harper's character was killed off, the only way it could have happened would have been in a dream sequence or something. It would have been cool to see, nonetheless.
I have always loved her and she's so lovely and quick witted. I watched her in The Hogan Family House, but I always was curious what happened to Valerie Harper's character. I read she was either in an accident or a fire in there house. But I never saw that episode, does it exist?
There was never an episode specifically about Valerie's death, but it was attributed to a car accident. The episode with the house fire was a way for the characters to release and express their grief about Valerie after the trauma of the fire. The series went through several names in transition through the years: Valerie/Valerie’s Family/The Hogan Family/The Hogans.
gina There was a big contract dispute between Valerie Harper and the people behind her TV show back in 1987 that ended up with her getting fired and her character getting killed off. Then Sandy Duncan replaced her. You can Google about it.

My 3rd Favorite Celebrity of all-time, I like her role as Sandy Hogan in Valerie's Family, and as Liz Bartlett in Disney's The Cat from Outer Space.
My first TV crush 💕
Speaking of people named Sandy, Sandy Kenyon (the interviewer here) is now the entertainment reporter for the ABC network and WABC-TV New York.
Valerie Harper is the best actress ever on television.
Missy Ann from Roots
For which she was nominated for an Emmy!
She reminds me so much of Cathy from Dance Moms
