I went to High School with Ben in Victoria BC. He has always been an awesome guy. He taught me how to hardflip. It’s a trip seeing him on this podcast.
I was in the middle of drywalling my house and I had just started skating again after 15 years. Was watching drywall videos from Ben and then came across his skate channel later. I was mind blown.
Ben degros is a treasure to the skateboard community. I’ve learned so much about my setup specs that I’ve never ever considered. Super big skate nerd , and he rips. He’s the man
I remember from one of his videos him mentioning that because skateboard is so technical, skateboarders tend to be technical people. Which is why skateboarders are good tradesmen
Hahaha he’s good at it to I got a new job last summer and my lead was out I had a question so I went to RUclips and I was like wtf Ben’s on here perfect! Got the wall done and got a nice job
Ben Degros is a saint. I believe his attention to detail is important to modern day skateboarding. Nowadays there is a large ethos of skaters that truly care and tap into these minute differences in specifications. I’ve absolutely curated some board madness however I’ve also been able to decipher what works best for me.
Honestly, I respect Ben more than most pros and brands in skateboarding. He has much higher moral grounds and won't sell out even if he earns far less then them. He is a guy that skateboarding industry needed as much as MKBHD in tech industry. His reviews helped me to get back in skateboarding and start enjoying it again in my late 30s. I'm quite sure that he can be the voice of all us who started skateboarding in late 90s and early 2000s.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Grew up skating in the late 90's early 2000's and stopped for the most part when I graduated high school in 2010 and then picked up longboarding a few years later and picked up the board last year and am so happy I did. Recently found Ben's videos and it's been rad getting back into it.
Ben is such a genuine, authentic, smart person, I have a lot of respect for how he carries himself because you don't see enough people like that anymore. I hope he does well in whatever he does.
Awesome to see Ben on the channel. Very well spoken guy, and it is VERY refreshing to see someone keep their integrity for so long as he has - That's extremely valuable, especially in 2024. I recently got back into skating after 5 years away, turned 30 a couple weeks ago and starting to land 360 flips again. Feels good.
I've been watching Ben's videos pretty much from the start. He's the definition of a hidden gem. To get an interview on the nine club means you made it in skateboarding
Its not often I watch a whole episode uninterrupted but I love the technical board talk and Ben is the man! An episode with Ben and the Professor would be mind melting.
Ben is the man. I’ll be listening to this tomorrow as it’s midnight in japan and I want to give this a proper listen. When I broke my wrist last year (from skating of course, both bones, gnarly AF) ben’s videos cheered me up no end and he even replied to me quite a bit which really made my day. 👊 sounds a bit whack but I needed it when it took 7 months to heal and get back on the board.
Didn't know about him until this episode, but this dude has a really calming demeanor. Also I'm one of those regular full episode watchers. I work from a desk and these episodes help me through the day.
The way he is in this interview is like he is in everyday life, pretty much all the time. I was curious how he would be here, but it's completely normal.
Yes! Ben is such a good skater and amazing RUclipsr. I’ve been watching him for SO. MANY. YEARS. His product analysis has not been bettered by anyone. Thank you Ben.
As a dual citizen born in Canada but have lived in the states basically my entire life, I’m very proud to see Ben on the Nine Club. When I discovered his carpenter videos first I was stoked to see we used the same Vaughan hammer. Then I saw a skate vid of his a realized, That’s the same dude! He’s rad and genuine.
Ben was the main reason for me to start skating again 6 years ago. He's the same age as me and I thought if he can do it I can do too.. Not so much on his level but at least I skate again. I made a ton of new friends and had awesome times, learned a ton about my self and just helped me to deal with life. So thank you Ben, much love!
His board review was a great opportunity and we are truly humbled by Ben and his review of one of our products. Great guy with a purpose to add facts to the industry and keep it legit.
This was great. I will absolutely pick up a Real board designed by Ben. I watched the channel religiously, I like to nerd out. Love that the Nine Club covers every aspect of skateboarding. It is what makes it great. Tha ks for all you do. I have been doing RUclips for 6 years, but a much slower pace than most and just for fun. It is weird world, but I enjoy it. The community is part of my skating. Stay Rad
Ben is a solid dude, and I wonder if it’s just guys that were raised during those times, but I agree: people aren’t subs, we don’t like click bait, we hate fucking scripted advertising (in general), and we’re on RUclips to learn and teach each other, not waste each other’s time!
As a Canadian, I loved this interview, as I follow him, I’m 50, a dad, he’s a big part of my skateboarding as he show’s me different oppositions. As I have been out for so many years. The same, being a dad, things change.
Ben was the first person i saw mention all the board dimensions and why certain boards ghost pop. I spent most of my life just buying boards with the width i like and every other board would fucking ghost pop or the nose would be to big and my nollie flip tricks just wouldn't work. Gotta say thanks for that Ben , and also Ted De gros was one of my favorite skaters growing up in the early 2000 era !!
This was great! I always hoped this episode would happen, I’m glad it did. It would be great to see Ted De Gros or other former Canadian pro skaters on as well.
Years ago, literally went from renovating my kitchen and watching his drywall videos to watching his skateboard videos to starting to skateboard again! So great to see you here Ben!
The genuineness of Ben is inescapable. You can hear the intelligence, see the athletic prowess, and feel the integrity in Ben as a person and the content he puts out. He also uses an effective vocabulary when he speaks that doesn’t alienate the less intellectual of us but comes across as very astute. So many kernels of wisdom here. He would make a good teacher, and indeed he is. Since I started tuning in, he’s taught me a lot of things about skateboards and skateboarding that I didn’t even dream I didn’t know. Would love love love to see an episode of he and Professor Schmidt rapping.
Ben’s brother Ted was a local legend growing up. He had the smoothest style, he was like our Tom Penny. Nicest dude to be around too, he’d skate with anybody. Highly recommend his vids, they are soo dope!
Happy New Year Ol Buddies! I just want to thank Chris, Kelly, Rog, Dubs, all of y’all for inspiring me to pick up a skateboard, aged 37. I’ve been a fan of the sport since the 90s, through X-Games, THPS, and continued following it, all the way up until discovering The Nine Club 6 years ago, and have religiously watched since then, I’ve been an outsider admiring the incredible humans that have crafted this art since day one, but finally got around to picking up my very first proper board a month ago aged 37, and I’m hooked! Thanks for all the shows, love every minute of them & can’t wait to skate throughout 2024 & beyond. Just wish I’d started out sooner! ✌🏽
the advice on the mid week session helped me when i was working full time . i would skate thursday or wednesday and then get friday or saturday off and skate 1 day in the middle of the week before the weekend . those weekends i would skate better and when i got laid off i was able to skate even more and learn more tricks during covid times
This is very nostalgic because I first met Ben and Ted when they were in Victoria just starting to get good at skating so the early days talk is bringing back a lot of memories of the era talking about young McCrank and Craig WIlliams and Westbeach and everything that was going on. Also, Chris, how can you NOT remember your first setup? Mine was 1988 and I nerded out so hard on it. I know down to the bearings and hardware what it was. I'm still scouring the internet to find the rest of it. I need 2 pink Powell Mini Rat 55's to finish it off, and 2 pink jelly risers.
I will never forget my first setup because of how awful it was lol 7.89" girl deck 139 indys 60mm ricta wheels It's when I discovered cruising is more dangerous than skateparks
Ben is great, his drywall videos and related content was part of why me and my dad were able to build a wall in my apartment during the pandemic. I had to double check when I found him while looking for some reviews of skate stuff. Looking forward to watching this video!
I found VancouverCarpenter around 2 years ago and found great utility in the content. I’ve seen countless hours of how to do drywall repair and home improvement methods. Mostly as a lurker, on my tv. I think I remember him mentioning skateboarding about a year ago. I only found his second page with skateboarding like 3 months ago. As I’m approaching 50 this year, it has made me really hyped to get back to it. Great interview!
If Ted wanted to, he would've been one of the biggest names in skateboarding. He turned down some things in skating. He never craved the spotlight. Also, his Habitat part was terrible, and I mean that as the highest compliment. He was beyond belief good in real life already at 14.
Seeing the homie Ben on here made my day! The man always so positive! Also something I wish we would discuss more is shoe madness lol 😂 I never cared when I was younger but now I’m so fucking picky that I feel like I’ve wasted hundreds of dollars on bad to average products. I found my shoe though finally after almost 2 years. The Joslin and the MC Rap theres no going back lol
I’m glad yall made this happen, Ben’s skate content was really helpful for choosing equipment when I got back into it this year. His perspective even though his skating was much higher level than mine felt like it was coming from a similar perspective. Also the integrity of the channel was apparent, respect for standing on your principles.
I’m a contractor too and I found Ben watching his drywall vids. Saw him wearing a pair of shelltoes and was like, this dude skates… never really watched his skate channel too much but dude rips and is a top notch drywall lord. Much respect.
Whoa!! I’ve been watching the skate videos and the drywalling videos and I never knew til right now that it was the same guy!!!! I learn so much from this dude!
Great episode, I have been following Ben's carpentry channel for years and later discovered that he was also a skateboarder with an entirely different rad channel. He's really good at both and a genuinely cool dude, I learned a lot from this one and appreciate him even more.
I just wanted to say a huge thanks to Chris and the team for having me on. It's truly an honour. Thank you so much!
you're so skibidi yap king

We need to say, thank you nine club for give us this amazing new year gift 🎉, we love you Ben! You love ans passion for skateboarding is amazing!!!
Was great seeing you Ben! Stay skating!
It was an awesome episode.
Nothing but respect for this dude. He is a pillar of integrity. Cheers, Ben. Shoutout to the nine club for this one too 👏
Yeah forsure
I went to High School with Ben in Victoria BC. He has always been an awesome guy. He taught me how to hardflip. It’s a trip seeing him on this podcast.

ironic how ur names also ben
That's exactly how I found him too. Pandemic renovations and taking up skating again.
@@powerviolents right up there with Mohamed

Exact same thing I’m a carpenter and skater. When I saw Ben on his drywall channel I was dented
Ben degros is a treasure to the skateboard community. I’ve learned so much about my setup specs that I’ve never ever considered. Super big skate nerd , and he rips. He’s the man
I’ve seen more of Ben’s drywall videos than his skate stuff. Talented dude.
I’ve watched one of his videos on drywall within the last week. Isn’t that crazy?, happy New Year’s Dudes🤙🏼😎
I accidentally smoked drywall. Shit looks the same on day 3
I remember from one of his videos him mentioning that because skateboard is so technical, skateboarders tend to be technical people. Which is why skateboarders are good tradesmen
Hahaha he’s good at it to I got a new job last summer and my lead was out I had a question so I went to RUclips and I was like wtf Ben’s on here perfect! Got the wall done and got a nice job

Ben's channel was one of very few I wld check out regularly. Shotout to him
He's the Canadian equivalent of Gator or Ben Papas
@@galvanizedgnomewait..how? 😂 He's the antithesis of both of those jokers

Thank you Nine Club for this interview. Ben is so well spoken.
Another great episode! His passion for skateboarding really comes through and makes the episode that much better!
Every time Ben is on a vid its more and more apparent hes a great and sincere guy. Greatest episode!
The way he is in this interview is like he is in everyday life, pretty much all the time. I was curious how he would be here, but it's completely normal.
His brother Ted's Part in "North" is mind blowing, still one of my favorites till this day.
I have to personally thank Daddy Ben for teaching me how to finish sheetrock. I can afford to skate because of the knowledge he imparted. hell yea.

Ben Degros is the godfather of online skating. Real OG.
I love Ben. So great to see him on the show. He’s so thoughtful and such a great dude. I’m definitely checking out his Real shape when it comes out.

Thanks guys, I found Yours and Ben's channels when getting back into skating this year at 41. I'm stoked to see you guys have him on here.
I watched the whole episode. Ben's a real one.
Dude I love Ben. I'm 46 and was just watching him for his carpenter videos then found his skate channel. Such a solid dude.
Got back into skating around the time Ben started his channel, been asking for this episode for a while now. Wish it was longer, gotta have him back!

His drywall videos helped me so much doing construction!
Ben is an absolute RUclips legend, huge thanks for getting him on the show
What are the odds! Been doing some drywall work in my house using Ben's videos. Had no fuckin idea 😂😂😂 Of course he's a ripper. What a legend haha
I am so incredibly grateful for Ben and his vids, they have taught us all so much and its great seeing him again since hes been doing his own thing :D
I found VancouverCarpenter around 2 years ago and found great utility in the content. I’ve seen countless hours of how to do drywall repair and home improvement methods. Mostly as a lurker, on my tv. This is the first time i watch the entire thing, thank you for inviting Ben, it's awesome to have unbiased opinions,.
Ben Degros is great
Your brother Ted is a legend just for his small section in the Habitat Mosaic video. Nollie flip fs noselide still blows my mind to this day!

Been watching Ben since day one, legend to Nine to have this legend on.
I started watching Ben in 2018 and he's such an awesome dude. Such a great episode thank you!
Seeing the homie Ben on here made my day! The man always so positive!
Also something I wish we would discuss more is shoe madness lol 😂

I found my shoe though finally after almost 2 years. The Joslin and the MC Rap theres no going back lol
Starting the New Year watching one of my favorite dudes on one of my favorite podcasts :)
So nice of Ben to have you guys on his show.
Thanks for this episode! Ben is great... I've missed his channel.
Ben is such a wholesome guy. All around good dude. Guess the Canadian stereotype stays true. Canadians really are the nicest people.
I’m glad yall made this happen, Ben’s skate content was really helpful for choosing equipment when I got back into it this year. His perspective even though his skating was much higher level than mine felt like it was coming from a similar perspective. Also the integrity of the channel was apparent, respect for standing on your principles.
good to see Ben in the realm of skating again, dude is so interesting. He fits in great with the nine club gang! Here's to a great 2024 everyone!
Ben is awesome ! Thanks for having him on fellas .
I’m so grade I have found the Nine Club, it’s amazing.
