At least it's a step forward... I'd love for android to copy ios level of app optimizations. It's 2020 yet the latest androids still can't use the cameras directly from apps because when they do, it looks like a footage taken from a cheap $200 phone when uploaded online. Sure they got great screens, and the photos and vids taken from the native camera app looks amazing. But you're not gonna shove your phone into people's faces. You actually have to upload it online, but when you do, it gets compressed so much. Still the same problem ever since I've got my first note in 2012. Lol. Ps: I know why it's like that. The problem is, they're not making a solution.

Heres a tip! You can duplicate the initial shortcut action (Open app) and make the amount you need, then all you have to do is configure each one to the designated app. Cuts the time in about half!

Coming from a 6-year android user and knowing how easy customization can be, I definitely would not put all that effort into changing up my home screens - especially since I know that I’ll eventually get bored of it and look for a new appearance later on. 2. Which brings me to my second point of paying for all these widget and “icon packs”. Eventually............one day.................Apple will likely add more user control on customization and when that day comes those widgets and icon packs could very possibly become obsolete depending on how Apple integrates that customization. In either case (free or paid) I just don’t see all that effort worth the final appearance, especially if you’re like me and will one day like to try some other appearance. That’s just how I feel about it anyways. Definitely was a nice tutorial and I do like the way that particular Home Screen looks it’s just too much of a hassle. p.s. I didn’t switch from android to iOS because of the new widget feature. (there are just many reasons that I’m not going to get into on here)

The point was is I’m always hesitant to pay for apps that add random features to your phone. But I guess value is in the eye of the beholder so if the user feels like they’ve gotten their money’s worth out of it then why not. But what with all the steps it takes to change the looks I feel it’s not worth it. But again, that’s just me.

I just spent a half an hour on the phone with a close friend who was trying to find an app icon. His wife had bought him a new iPhone 12; but she was out of town working. I kept asking him to go to his home screen, but he had no idea how to do it, and since my phone is an 8, i couldn't tell him how to do it. I finally had him ask Siri to do it form him. Lacking in your video is "how to get to your home screen".

Curious, what's your current daily driver or go to phone for the next 4-6 months? Are you moving from the Pixel 5 to the iPhone 12? Toying with the idea myself, which is a big deal since I've been with the Nexus-Pixel line all this time.
The app icon change process , will take so much time , if you use ton of apps , that new iPhone will launch by then lol . Never the less it is good apple has given such feature . Hope direct icon change feature like android comes in future .
Shortcuts is a very advanced automation platform. Imo jumping from home screen to an app is very basic functionality. It shouldn’t affect your phone at all.
after all this time they weren't able to make the gallery organize pictures AUTOMATICALLY in 'per app albums' (like android) instead of jamming them all in one place. I recently switched and spend like 3 mins every time i want to send a photo cause i have to look for it... It's such a simple feature
This is very funny problem in 2021, I have never used an iphone. I was thinking of switching from android to iphone up to now. A14 chip and aluminium frame designs is very impressive but ugly notch, bad customization options, lightning cable!, no fingerprint (touch ID) security options and so on... I should wait the iphone 13, for switch to iphone.

Anyone who cares - iOS 14.3 beta 2 redirects to the app directly instead of first going to shortcuts. Also, if you enable reduce motion, the animation is much more tolerable.
IOS is still light-years behind Android as far as customization. If they even have custom launchers or ability to download torrents then I might reconsider

If you update your phone to iOS 14.3, it no longer opens the shortcuts app
