All these kids telling Matt to go here and go there obviously dont knw how the world works and how visas work in general. You cant just go to another country, show up and expect to stay and work there for how ever long you want. There are restrictions and other implications regarding work visas and getting visa to play football for a secound division or third division team in Europe is not only expensive for the club but time consuming. Also think about it from the clubs perspective, why would a third division team go through all this hassle to bring a foreign player incurring all these visa costs and housing blah blah when they can just get a homegrown player for free?
The biggest difference I’ve noticed between you and semi-pro/pro players here in England is technique. You’re very stiff and everything you do looks mechanical rather than natural, as if you’re having to think about everything you do. Please don’t take this as hate it’s just something I’ve noticed, I’m only semi-pro in England so I guess you can say that I don’t have the experience to talk
Yes I agree, but this is Matt’s technique and this is how he plays and at his age (26) you can’t really change that. I’m Australian and we are like most of the English, everyone here is very natural and we are all very ‘loose’ and technical, it’s great.
Izzy Wood i agree with you. I’m also from Australia playing Semi-Pro but I’ve played Pro in Spain also. There’s a massive step up and you need to stick out with fluid movement. If it’s not natural, it’s hard to make those quick split second decisions that can change a match.
Hey Matt I just want to thank you for providing content that has many players like me improve off and on the field. Recently I've been going through depression and have tried to get back up but end up falling short. I see that you are going live on instagram and give a lot of usefull insight of a pro's life and the struggle that pushed you to get to where you are. Even though my question doesn't get answered " What do you consider when transitioning from club to a collegiate level" I will forever be greatful for everything you have provided to us in the soccer community. I just got the Elite 90 program and will work myself up and regain my confidence, spot on my team, and overall myself. Thank you.
Sheldon per video evidence you have improved 200% you are at your top physical level. You have already won. And you have won the respect of many footballers in the world. You should be very proud of yourself. No matter what the tide may bring ... You have made it. Respect.
"It's so cold in California" - 67 degrees & sunny weather lmao! I wish NY winter was like that... Love your channel & content Matt, hope we can play together one day, looking foward for it!
I’m a pro indoor volleyball player and it’s the same situation. Tons of waiting. Have to wait for perfect opportunity basically. Need an agent. Tons of teams interested in you but don’t pull the trigger due to visas and all that. It’s crazy. Have to have a different level of mental strength to keep pursuing your dream
Completely agree with everything you said! Too much truth about the specificity of needs of teams based on positions and the timing of it all. I got extremely lucky to be noticed when I did to go to Sweden. I just happened to perform well on tour and there were injuries in a team that needed my position.
I know I asked this in the last video but have you considered going somewhere like Asia or something to try get a pro contract? Also doesn't Armando have a pro contract already? What do you think about open trials for kids? There's a thing called UK Football Trials I'm considering going to but I'm not sure if it's worth it. It is pretty popular though
I do not know if you will read this Matt but thanks for all the drills and training tips. It is hard to find drills that will actually improve my game.
How did you get money when you weren’t signed to a team? Because I’m struggling to juggle a job a the football life. It will be even harder when I leave home?
I love watching ur videos they are amazing and really helpful. you have inspired me to follow my passion and start my own RUclips and instagram ⚽️ channel thank u.
Just came from my first basketball combine. My oldest brother told me I'm wasting my money cause all they are going to do is give you an evaluation of your game and take your money, not sign you or send you in the right direction to get signed
Glad you made this video Matt as I've been losing a lot of faith in the structure of American Soccer in the last few years. I'm very self aware as to what level I am at and have been told by several D1 coaches that I am very much capable to play in Division 1 and potentially higher than that. My trouble lies in communications with coaches when reaching out to them to set up trials, many times they will respond once saying that they are interested in setting up a trial and simply never get back to me. I try to be persistent and reach out again but I don't want to be pushy. Are these problems something that an agent can fix?
I really want thank you for making this video! Long story short, I was also planning to attend this same tryout too. BUT... before i've bought a spot for myself, i've researched several vids of tryouts and then i came across your channel. After weeks of thinking, i've decided to not attend to this tryout due to reasons like... 1. Pricetag... $500 is a big pricetag for myself. Decided to spend gifts for my family instead :D 2. If I ever make it, then what? Plus, the clubs that attended to the tryouts are VERY SMALL clubs in what? Norway, Denmark, etc. Is their growth in their leagues? Where would I live? So many questions. 3. Like you've said, it's very hard to get a spot because of how incredibly picky scouts are. Plus, just hearing LA Galaxy 2 FINALLY giving a contract to their FIRST player just hit me too. Really? Just 1 player? What the heck! I'm currently 22, and still playing but kinda loosing hope now. But again, THANK YOU for making this video and saving my $$$$ and time too. MAYBE i'll attend a tryout next year, but not too sure If I should even bother at this point. Again, thank you!
Would you say for someone who’s just entering college and potentially trying to make it to the next level open tryouts and combines are the best way to get high level experience
I did an open trial recently and I played striker and I did very well in my opinion only problem that I had was during the trial they moved me to Rb and I never asked for that and I was lost as a defender that shit was annoying...kinda of a waste
I can be wrong, but I feel that it's a tactic to see if you're good enough to play other positions in the game. Plus if you've performed as a RB well, imo, it's a possibility that couches will look into you. Not sure if it's this video or another, but someone said that no matter how good you are as a striker for example, agent/coaches won't even look at you at all... they are looking for RB/LB players... not strikers. They are basically looking for players they NEED. Not what they WANT. Again, I can be wrong but I have a feeling this is a case. i've read complaints about other players facing the same issue too. yet imo, i have feeling coaches/agents are doing that to see if you're eligible to play that position. They would probably be like "hey... he's a good striker but i need a RB for my pro team.; lets put him to the RB and I want to see if he's good enough for RB".
That's insane yo my friend Nathan went to that same combine yo I wish I would have gone with him and had the pleasure of meeting you bro it would've been lit
Hi Matt, just a quick question. I live in Israel meaning i'm not from the US and my dream is to play in the american leagues. From your videos especially from this one, I want to start at the tier 3 league - usl league one. Any tips how can I get to play there? Thanks a lot if you answer this i'll appreciate it a lot.
You probably have money saved up and I understand that you have residual income from your become elite business. But if you didn’t have a business, where would your funding come from for travel, trials, flights and basically all your expenses? Would you work a regular job on the side? Would your parents financially support you? I’m curious.
What about like mls draft? I know a guy his name is danny musovski. He went to the same high school that I did here in Las Vegas. Got a scholarship for unlv and later drafted to San Jose earthquakes in the mls. I want to know about that process.
Mate, the basics right and doing the simple things right is going to get you through. Especially since he’s a right back it would be criminal to do something risky in his own half
DinDinGames you have to find a good balance and be unpredictable. sometimes play the good pass but sometimes take a risk and dribble past a defender. what many people don’t understand is that players will make mistakes all the time, even Messi it’s just how u react to them.
coaches could tell whether youre good enough just by you taking a few touches and the ball and playing passive. you dont gotta play risky or very direct to show youre good. obviously that does help and if you do this in trials that also great. but I think coaches could already pick up how technical he is just by seeing how he moves into space and opens up his body and picks his head up to take his first touch. it doesn't take long for a coach or scouter to see how good you are honestly. even my high school coach selected me, based off the first 5-10 minutes of seeing me play and i was playing simple and passive. and hes been coaching for over 20 years. so any one who has experience of playing or coaching at a high level can already see things within just a few glimpses
I feel like there should be a better way than these trials, Like you say it’s basically super random and unlikely that all these lines to fit into place. I’m not sure what a better way would be but nearing 2019 and football getting bigger and bigger surely there is a better way out there.
Well those combines are a business. Right now I'm not a player but I might have the money to pay to be on those trials. I bet there's a lot of players that aren't near the level attending those trials.
This is not hate at all. Watching you play is like watching a fifa game. You play like you are being programmed, I understand that some coaches like that low risk kind of style but, it doesn’t look like you’re having fun. At least to me

Hundred percent agree and in no disrespectful form, matt lacks individuality. Needs to be himself and try something new.
